“Ms. Coleman, I’ve been trying to reach you, but your phone’s been off. I just found out something happened. Are you hurt?” Dax’s voice was full of worry.
‘I barely left, and this mess happens? Someone’s definitely got their eyes on me,’ Dax thought.
Thalia closed her eyes for a moment. “I’m at the hospital. I’m fine, but Darion’s pretty badly hurt, and so are the two bodyguards. Can you take care of them?”
Dax replied, “I’ve already arranged for them to be taken to the hospital. I’m heading over to you right now.”
Thalia nodded. “Okay.”
She told him which hospital she was at and then hung up.
She was soaked to the bone, icy chills crawling under her skin and making her shiver nonstop. The strong scent of disinfectant stung her nose, and as she lowered her gaze, she noticed blood smeared across her hands.
She found the restroom and turned on the faucet to wash her hands.
Fear still gripped her, and her hands wouldn’t stop shaking.
She’d cheated death more than a few times.
Someone was out to kill her.
They would stop at nothing to take her out for good.
Thalia braced her hands on the sink, forcing herself to fight back the fear gnawing at her.
“Ms. Coleman? Ms. Coleman?”
Dax’s worried voice came from outside.
Thalia stepped out, looking especially pale. “I’m here.”
Dax let out a sigh of relief, giving her a quick once-over. “You’re really not hurt? Want to get checked by a doctor?”
Thalia shook her head. “No.”
Then she gave a bitter smile. “If it weren’t for Darion, I almost died today.”
Dax’s expression was complicated. “Sometimes, he actually acts like a real human being.”
Thalia was speechless.
‘That was savage, she thought.
They headed back to the ER entrance, and Thalia asked, “What’s going on with Bonnie?”

Dax replied, “She’s been found. Mr. Flynn sent someone to get her out. She’s fine.”
Thalia frowned, confused. “So what really happened?”

Dax said, “They were just messing with her. Since she doesn’t have any connections or background, they figured they could give her a hard time.”
After a pause, he added, “But I think their real goal was to leave you without anyone to protect you, so you’d be left all alone…”
He didn’t finish his sentence, but Thalia already knew what he meant.
If Darion hadn’t caught up, she couldn’t even imagine what she would have faced.
Even hiding in the car wouldn’t have kept her safe. With so many people after her, they would’ve found a way to break the windows and finish her off.
A chill ran down Thalia’s spine, and her face went even paler.
Dax said, “By the time I got there, everyone was gone. The cars were still there, but all of them had cloned plates. They stayed out of the cameras’ sight and even used signal jammers. Seriously, they thought of everything.”
Thalia lowered her gaze and said, “Even the president probably hasn’t been through anything as crazy as
this.”
Dax looked genuinely worried. “Ariston’s supposed to be super safe, but stuff like this still happens. Ms. Coleman, you absolutely can’t leave the country. The second you step out, you could be in real danger.”
