Chapter 399

10 you has

Thalia stood there, holding the documents, her eyes lingering on the open cabinet in front of her. For a moment, she felt dazed.

Back then, she used to help Trenton organize his study. She always knew where his favorite books belonged, how to separate regular files from confidential ones, and how to keep the important documents safe.

All of that was practically second nature to her now.

Stepping into this room, she didn’t feel out of place at all. Every corner, every detail, was so familiar to her.

After all, this used to be her home.

She’d spent four years of her marriage living right here.

‘Why was I so resistant to coming back here before?’ Thalia wondered to herself.

It was just that this place held so many of her joys and sorrows, witnessed her growth and transformation, and hid all the pain she tried to bury.

If she wanted to cut ties with her past, the first thing she had to do was stay away from this place.

But after all the twists and turns, here she was, back again.

Her mind was in turmoil. Thalia gripped the documents tightly, then turned, sank into the chair, and began to read through them.

The documents detailed Matthew Evans’s employment overseas.

As she read, Thalia’s brows knitted together. “There’s nothing here that seems questionable at all,’ she thought to herself.

“The day Diana was taken away, after the assassination attempt outside the nursing home, I had someone investigate the connections there. Matthew came up during the investigation. He’s pretty close with the director. I suspect he might be tied to that attack.”

Just then, Darion’s voice broke the silence.

Thalia shook her head. “That’s impossible.”

She closed the file and said, “He’s always helped me. He would never want me dead.”

Darion fixed her with a cool, unreadable stare. “Why is he helping you so much? Did you ever ask what he gets out of it?”

Thalia replied, “I’m giving him a lot of money.”

Darion let out a low, mocking chuckle.

“He doesn’t need your money. He’s got his own business overseas, and as an Evans, his yearly dividends are nothing to sneeze at. You really think he’d help you this much, go so far as to stand against me, just for the

cash you promised?” Darion said.

Thalia’s clear eyes flashed with a chill as she said, “So you think he wants me dead just because of this? The information you found doesn’t show any motive at all. Your suspicion doesn’t hold water.”

“Of course, he doesn’t have a motive. But what if it’s his boss pulling the strings?” Darion walked over, stood beside her, opened a drawer, and handed her a file.

“Thalia, you need to take a good look at who you really are,” Darion said.

Thalia’s eyelid gave a sharp twitch as she listened to Darion.

‘What is he getting at?’ Thalia thought, unease prickling at her nerves.

Thalia reached out and took the file from Darion, feeling a strange unease. As she flipped it open and caught sight of the contents, her eyes widened in shock.

“This… How is this possible?” Thalia gasped, disbelief coloring her voice.

Darion handed her a paternity test report for her, Trenton, and Shyla.
