Chapter 401
Thalia grabbed the ointment and went to wash her hands. When she came back, she saw Darion had already taken off his shirt.
Bandages were still wrapped around his body, and his skin, pale but strong, was marked with faint scars from old injuries.
One bullet wound still looked angry and raw.
It was still healing.
Thalia stared at the bullet wound, her gaze flickering for a moment.
She unwrapped the bandages, revealing a mess of knife scars, some big, some small, more than a dozen scattered across his skin.
She applied ointment to each wound, and the instant her fingers brushed against them, Darion’s body went rigid.
Thalia frowned and said, “Try to bear it. Don’t move.”
Darion’s hand curled into a fist on his thigh, his voice low and husky. “It doesn’t hurt, just feels itchy.”
Thalia paused mid-motion, suddenly losing the urge to keep applying the ointment.

Darion closed his eyes and muttered, “I’m not numb, I can feel everything. But I can take it. You don’t have to worry about me.”
Thalia scoffed, “You never say anything honest. How am I supposed to trust you?”
Darion pulled a half-smile, not bothering to reply.
Thalia kept going, but this time she didn’t bother being gentle. She quickly finished with his back, then tossed the ointment at him. “Do the front yourself.”
Before he could say a word, she turned and walked out.
Darion was left speechless.
He opened his eyes, watching her slender figure walk away, a hint of helplessness flickering in his gaze.
‘What a heartless woman,’ he thought.
Thalia was in her room, organizing her stuff, when her phone suddenly rang out of nowhere. She glanced at the screen. It was Diana calling.
‘Huh?
‘Why would Diana call me out of the blue at this hour?’ she wondered.

Chapter 101
‘Did something happen?’
“Hey, Diana,” Thalia said softly as she picked up the phone.
Thalia answered, her voice gentle.
“Thalia, your mom’s in critical condition. Did you know?” Diana’s voice sounded aged and weary, making Thalia’s heart tighten for reasons she couldn’t quite explain.
Thalia gripped her phone tighter. “Diana, how did you know?”
“Your dad reached out to me,” Diana said. “Thalia, I want to go see her.”
“Diana…” Thalia began, clearly not on board. She tried to object.
“Thalia, I know what you’re about to say. Yes, she’s made plenty of mistakes, but she’s still my daughter. I brought her into this world and raised her.
“Even though things haven’t always been good between us, now that she’s in this condition, I don’t know how much time she has left. I don’t want to keep holding onto the past. I just want to see her,” Diana said,
her voice heavy with sadness.
Diana cut her off, sighing, her tone full of sadness.
She was heartbroken for her own daughter.
Mothers always put their kids first. If their children are okay, nothing else matters to them.
But Shyla and Trenton? They weren’t those kinds of parents.
No.
