Trenton had just learned about this, yet he was already so cold toward Thalia. Did he ever really care about his daughter?
Diana couldn’t help but worry about Thalia. She glanced over and saw Thalia staring at her phone, looking perfectly fine.
Diana took Thalia’s hand, her touch dry and warm. Thalia paused for a moment, then smiled.
“Grandma, I’m fine,” Thalia said softly.
Diana’s eyes were filled with a tender ache. She knew Thalia must have lost all hope; otherwise, she wouldn’t be so determined to cut ties.
‘Such a poor kid,’ Diana couldn’t help but think.
Trenton watched the warm moment between them, his lips twitching as if he wanted to say something.
“Trenton,” Darion called out, breaking the mood.
“You know what to say and what not to say. I don’t need to spell it out for you,” Darion said, his tone sharp.
Trenton snorted dismissively and walked out of the hospital room.
“I know what he was about to say,” Thalia said softly, looking at Diana. “Grandma, maybe I can’t call you that anymore.”
Diana gave her a gentle pat. “Nonsense! You’re my granddaughter, and nothing anyone says can change that!”
Thalia’s eyes stung with tears, but her heart felt warm. She leaned in and hugged Diana tightly. “You’ll always be my grandma.”
“Good girl, don’t let those silly thoughts bother you. I’ve watched you grow up, and I know exactly what kind of person you are. The bond we’ve built over all these years is way more reliable than any blood relation,” Diana said softly, patting Thalia’s back.
Diana gently patted her back, her voice soft and comforting.
“Mm!” Thalia nodded firmly, finally letting out the breath she’d been holding.
The father who raised her was so distant, yet the grandmother she rarely saw was the one who showed her real affection.
‘Guess I’m pretty lucky after all, Thalia thought to herself.
The test results came back fast. Shyla still had the same old condition. She needed plenty of rest and shouldn’t get too worked up.
By the time she returned, she’d calmed down, but she still turned to Thalia and said, “Thalia, whether we’re

related by blood or not, you’ll always be my daughter to me.”
“And what about Miya?” Thalia asked, her voice calm.

Thalia met her gaze, a faint, almost indifferent smile on her lips. “Honestly, you shouldn’t fool yourself anymore. You’ve always cared more about Miya, and now you finally have the chance to give her all your love. I don’t need it anymore.”
“You two aren’t the same,” Shyla said, shaking her head gently. “I do feel guilty toward her, but my love for you comes straight from my heart.”
Thalia didn’t want to hear any more of it. She turned to Diana and said, “Grandma, I’ll wait for you outside.”
“Okay,” Diana replied softly.
Thalia turned and walked out of the hospital room.
Her whole body finally relaxed, like the shackles holding her back had just fallen away. She felt a strange, almost inexplicable lightness inside.
If she’d found out about her true origins earlier, maybe she wouldn’t have spent so many years feeling lost and fighting against herself.
The door behind her swung open, and Trenton stepped out, his expression icy and detached. “Thalia, since you want to cut ties with us, you owe us for everything we’ve done. If it weren’t for us, you might not have made it this far.”
