Chapter 42 Same Cheap Tricks
“How dare she hit you? Who does she think she is?” Darion said in a deep, steady voice.
Miya replied softly, “Ms. Adkins was just venting her anger for Lia. I didn’t take it to heart. As long as they’re not upset anymore, I don’t care what happens to me.”
“Damn it, I’m gonna kill you!” Wendy shouted, lunging at Miya, ready to hit her.
Miya let out a frightened gasp and immediately ducked behind Darion.
Darion stared at Wendy with a cold, piercing gaze. “You still won’t confess to hitting her? Do you want me to chop your hand off?”
Wendy trembled slightly at his threat, but her anger remained unyielding. “I hit her? With which hand? When did I do that? Who witnessed it?”
Miya spoke up, “I went to see Thalia this morning, and you were so furious that you slapped me.”
Wendy’s eyes widened in shock. “Are you fucking kidding me right now?”
Thalia finally caught on. She held Wendy back and shot them a frigid look. “Did you say she hit you?”
Miya’s gaze flickered with guilt for a moment, then she dropped her eyes. “I’m really okay now. Let’s forget about it. Darion, please don’t drag Thalia into this trivial matter.”
“Get over here and explain yourself.” Thalia snapped, reaching out to pull Miya forward.
Darion clamped down on Thalia’s hand again, his grip unyielding. “I saw the slap mark on Miya’s cheek. If it wasn’t Wendy, who did it? Do you honestly think I’d accuse Wendy without proof?”
“Let go,” Thalia snapped, gritting her teeth.
Darion frowned. “One apology from her, and this all ends.”
“I said,, let go!” Thalia shouted, her face flushed with anger. “I was right there this morning. Wendy never touched her. She’s faking it!”
Just like every other time when Miya “accidentally” fell off the swing, tripped down the stairs on purpose, or shattered a vase, then pinned the blame squarely on Thalia.
The same old lies and charades had burned into Thalia’s memory, impossible to forget.
Now, Miya was using those same cheap tricks on Wendy, just like she’d done to Thalia for years.
Thalia would never connive Miya.
“Calm down,” Darion said, his voice low and steady. “If she did something wrong, shouldn’t she apologize?”
Thalia raised her hand to slap him.
But instead of hitting Darion, the slap hit Miya square in the face, who had stepped forward in a split second, throwing herself in front of him to take the blow.
Darion’s eyes narrowed in alarm. “Miya?”
Miya covered her cheek as tears streamed down her face, her voice soft and broken. “I was wrong… I must have misremembered. Ms. Adkins didn’t hit me. Darion, please don’t blame her anymore.”
She looked so pitiful, like a helpless victim enduring it all just to keep the peace.
“I can’t stand this anymore! You accused me of hitting you? Fine, I’ll make it real. I’ll smack you so hard you’ll wish you hadn’t lied!” Wendy shouted, her face twisted with fury as she lunged at Miya.
“Hold her down!” Darion ordered.
The bodyguards at the door stormed in, seizing Wendy and holding her back.
“Let her go!” Thalia snapped at the bodyguards, her eyes glowing red with rage
The bodyguards flinched, releasing Wendy immediately.
