Chapter 488
Thalia stroked her dog’s sleek fur, her face cool and distant. “Whatever happens to them from now on, it’s none of my business.”
Wendy nodded. “Yeah, let’s stop paying attention to those jerks. Our future’s looking really bright!”
She was always bursting with motivation.
Thalia asked, “How have you been lately? Your mom isn’t forcing you to go on blind dates again, is she?”
“Ugh, don’t even get me started!” Wendy puffed up her cheeks in frustration. “That idiot Jason Campbell must’ve lost his mind or something. He actually told my family we’re dating! Now my parents are all over me, constantly asking me to bring him home for dinner.
“They keep telling me to stop being so stubborn, to behave, and that I should feel lucky to be with him and cherish this so-called relationship. Ugh, as if!”
Thalia was stunned. “Why would he say that? Is he into you or something?”,
“He says he doesn’t like me, but he says he’s just helping me deal with my parents, since they keep setting me up with all sorts of weirdos,” Wendy replied, looking pretty weirded out herself.
“I’m so annoyed right now. Sure, I’m not being forced into blind dates anymore, but now my parents are always wanting me to bring him over for dinner. I’m not even dating him! This is all his fault, so why does it feel like I’m the one getting all the blame?”
Wendy looked totally exasperated. Just as she finished talking, her phone started ringing. She glanced at the screen, then set it down on the coffee table, hitting speaker.
“Sweetie, where are you?”
Her mom’s warm, smiling voice came through the phone.
Wendy replied, sounding totally drained, “I’m at home.”
Her mom immediately said, “Why are you at home? You should be out on a date with Jason! Couples need to spend time together, you know. You two should be seeing each other all the time.
“And listen to me, don’t go acting stubborn with Jason, okay? He’s such a good guy. If you lose him, I’ll be really mad at you.”
Wendy gestured helplessly to Thalia.
She mouthed, “Did you hear that? I told you I wasn’t exaggerating!”
Thalia was totally stunned, torn between laughing and crying.
Wendy let out a sigh. “Mom, please, don’t just believe whatever he says. There’s absolutely nothing going
on between us!”
“Wendy, you’re an adult now, it’s totally fine for you to date. Don’t worry, we won’t blame you for anything. Since you two are together, just try to get along and don’t overthink things, okay?

“And really, why would Jason make up something like this? You’re just refusing to admit it, Wendy. We can’t just ignore our responsibilities, you know.”
Wendy was speechless.
Too late.
She already had.
And she was the type to do the deed and make a quick exit.
