Chapter 55 Meet Jason
Sitting in his car, Darion called Jason.
“Hey, Darion, what’s up?” Jason answered, loud background noise echoing behind him.
Darion asked coldly, “Where are you?”
Jason caught the severity in his tone and told him his location.
Darion said, “Get your ass to Blackburn Manor right now. Bring over your computer.”
With that, he hung up immediately.
As he turned his head, Darion saw Thalia step out of the mansion, her face completely drained of color.
She moved slowly, unsteady on her feet, as if a single gust of wind could knock her over.
He tightened his grip on the steering wheel. Replaying the night’s chaos in his head, he slammed his fist into it in frustration.
He thought, ‘She’s lost her mind! Why would she torture herself like this?’
He stared at her, his gaze heavy and unreadable. After a long moment, he pulled out his phone and made another call. “Make sure there are taxis waiting near her.”
Thalia stepped out of the Blackburn Manor grounds and stood by the curb, hailing a cab. One pulled up at once, and Darion watched as she got in, disappearing into the night.
Jason arrived moments later, breathless as he wrenched open the car door and slid inside. “Darion, what’s going on? Why the rush?”
Darion’s chiseled features were frosted over, his gaze sharp and impenetrable. “Hack into the Blackburn family’ s surveillance system. I want to see all the footage from today.”
“Huh?” Jason blinked in utter disbelief.
‘Hack into your own family’s surveillance system? What the hell is going on?’ Jason wondered, totally baffled.
Darion flicked him a frigid, cutting glance. “Are you deaf?”
“No… I’m too shocked,” Jason muttered, snapping back to his senses. He flipped open his laptop and added, Seriously, Darion, can you at least tell me what happened?”
But Darion said nothing, only watching his fingers move over the keyboard.
‘Alright, forget it, Jason sighed inwardly and dropped the subject.
He focused on the task at hand. Since he’d designed the firewall for Blackburn Manor’s surveillance system, he knew every loophole. Breaking in without a trace was effortless for him.
The surveillance footage started downloading, the progress bar inching forward slowly.
Jason glanced at Blackburn Manor, then suddenly slapped his forehead. “Oh, right, I just remembered. Today
is Keith’s third birthday, isn’t it? What’s going on? Why’s it so quiet over there?”
Darion kept his eyes closed, his tone flat. “You’ll find out soon enough.”
Jason switched his gaze between the laptop and Darion’s frosty face, already sensing that something explosive had unfolded.
He leaned in, eyes glued to the screen, practically buzzing with curiosity. ‘Alright, let’s see what really happened tonight, he thought.
But after the download finished, Jason saw that everything recorded after Thalia went upstairs was completely gone.
“What’s going on?” Darion rasped, his tone icy.
Jason replied, “The system crashed. Everything after that is gone.”
Darion’s face darkened to a stormy, dangerous shade.
