Chapter 79

$5 Veunhera

Thalia had been deep in the original footage, mapping out character emotional arcs, when the milkshake appeared in her peripheral vision. Looking up, she found exactly the face she least wanted to see.

“Something I can help you with?” Her tone could’ve frozen water.

Miya’s expression remained unbothered. “I got these for everyone. Thought I’d bring you one. We’re colleagues now. We should try to get along.”

She let out what sounded like a helpless sigh. “Darion really went and did something. Out of nowhere, he arranged this position for me. I honestly never expected him to. Lia, please don’t read too much into it.”

Thalia regarded her coldly. “If you didn’t want me to read too much into it, you could’ve just turned it down. But here you are, trying to have it both ways. Ever heard the word ‘insufferable’?

Miya blinked with practiced innocence. “I did refuse. But Darion insisted. What was I supposed to do?”

A bitter smile tugged at Thalia’s lips. She thought, ‘So this is how it’s going to be, her rubbing it in my face just how good Darion is to her

Miya pressed on, “Lia, please don’t be upset. The only reason Darion treats me well is because of Keith. I’ll never forget the look in his eyes when he saw Keith right after he was born. So tender, like he was looking at his own child.”

Thalia’s hands curled into fists. Against her will, images of Darion in the delivery room. flooded her mind.

Rage simmered beneath her skin, a volcano on the verge of eruption.

Thalia drew a steadying breath. “If you’re so confident, why don’t you try a little harder? Get him to divorce me. Then you two can ride off into the sunset together.”

Miya sighed with practiced patience. “See, this is exactly what I was talking about. You’ve got it all wrong. Darion and I are just friends. He loves you.”

“Get lost.” Thalia’s composure was fraying fast.

But Miya showed no signs of retreating. “Lia, there’s a reason Darion placed me here, working alongside you. He wants us to spend time together, to smooth things over. Everything he does is for you. Don’t throw that away.”

Thalia rose abruptly. Her chair toppled backward, striking the floor with a heavy thud.

Heads turned, and curious glances traveled across the room.

A flicker of satisfaction glinted in Miya’s eyes.

She knew Thalia well. Her temper was short and her fuse shorter. A little provocation was all it took.

If Thalia lost control and made a scene, this job would slip through her fingers.

Darion’s well-intentioned gesture would backfire spectacularly, and his disappointment in her would only deepen.

Everything was proceeding according to plan.

But Thalia simply turned, righted her chair, and walked directly to Wesley’s office.

She said, “Mr. Chase, would it be possible for me to work remotely? I have a studio at home with better equipment than

Wesley’s brow furrowed. “That’s not going to work. Without me and the sound engineer there, how am I supposed to maintain quality control remotely?”

Thalia felt the beginnings of a headache forming behind her eyes.

Staying meant enduring Miya’s provocations indefinitely. She could hold it together for now, but everyone had their limits.

What she really wanted was to wipe that smug expression off Miya’s face permanently.

Wesley studied her with narrowed eyes. “Problems already, Ms. Coleman? Let me be clear. This company isn’t a playground for personal drama. If you can’t keep your private life separate from your work, I’ll have no choice but to recast the role.”

Thalia’s expression went rigid. She swallowed hard. “It won’t happen again.”
