Miya gasped. “Oh my God. Darion, are you alright?”

His jaw tightened, eyes fixed on the red taillights shrinking into the distance. When they finally disappeared, he looked away, his expression unreadable.
“I shouldn’t have let her go up alone,” Miya said, guilt creeping into her voice. “If I’d just waited, we could’ve gone to see Keith together. Then she wouldn’t have gotten the wrong idea.”
Darion’s tone was flat, his composure already back in place. “Get in. We’ll talk on the way.”
Miya nodded quietly. “Okay.”
Thalia cursed her luck for constantly crossing paths with those two today.
She had barely driven a few blocks when her engine suddenly died, leaving her stranded and blocking traffic. She stepped out into the rain, frantically checking under the hood, but found nothing.
As she stood there, bewildered, she spotted Darion’s car approaching.
Through gritted teeth, she waved, hoping he’d stop and take a look.
But his car didn’t even slow down. It just glided past her.
Her arm hung frozen in midair as the icy rain lashed against her skin.
She stared blankly, disbelief mingling with the shock.
‘Bastard,’ she thought. ‘He saw me stranded and just drove by!
Thalia bit down on her lip and wiped her face with the back of her hand. Then she dropped her arm, climbed back into the car, and called the auto shop.
By the time she hung up, her head had cleared.
Why did I even wave at him?’ she thought. ‘Why didn’t I just call the shop first? What exactly was I expecting from him?”
Her gaze hardened, then slowly went flat.
As Miya’s car exited the garage, she immediately noticed Thalia’s vehicle up ahead, hazard lights blinking, pulled over on the shoulder.
A moment later, Thalia got out and started checking under the hood.
Miya glanced sideways at Darion.
He was looking down at the papers in his lap, his expression absorbed. He hadn’t looked up once.
Then Miya saw Thalia wave in their direction. The driver opened his mouth to speak, but Miya cut in smoothly, “Darion, I never properly thanked you for setting up this job for me.”

Chapter S1
He didn’t lift his eyes from the document. “Wasn’t it your idea to patch things up with her? How’d it go today”
Miya sighed softly. “Lia’s still holding onto so much resentment. She wouldn’t even acknowledge me when I tried to talk.”
Then her expression brightened. “But that’s alright. I’ll show her with time that everything in the past was just a misunderstanding. We’ll work through it.”
“Mm.” he responded absently, finally glancing up just as the car passed the spot where Thalia had been standing.
They were already well past her.
Miya lowered her gaze, schooling her features.
By the time Thalia got home, she was drenched. The first thing she did was make herself a cup of hot chocolate.
She couldn’t afford to get sick right now. If her voice went, so would her work.
