Helen’s displeasure was evident now. Her voice cooled noticeably “I’ll call and find out what’s going on.”

With that, she ended the call.

Thalia held the phone for a moment longer before letting out a quiet, mocking laugh.

‘What else could it be?’ she thought. ‘Darion must’ve stepped in and kept her there. How devoted. For Miya’s sake, he’s even willing to go against his own mother.’

Yet as she idly turned the phone in her hand, the motion gradually slowed, and the trace of amusement on her face faded

away.

At last, she tossed the phone aside, picked up the script again, and resumed studying it with renewed focus.

Helen dialed her son’s number and got straight to the point. “Where are you? Come home for a bit. I need to talk to you.”

Darion answered evenly, “At the hospital. I’m keeping Keith company.”

Helen’s brow twitched with irritation. “Keith has a nanny and nurses. You don’t need to be there all the time. Come back now. I have something to discuss with you.”

“Alright.” Darion replied, his tone carrying a hint of casual indifference before he hung up.

He slipped the wooden block in his hand into Keith’s small palm. “Play on your own for a while. I need to step out.”

Keith immediately caught hold of his hand, gazing up at him with pleading eyes. “Darry, do you have to go?”

“I do. Something came up.” Darion knew the boy depended heavily on him. After all, he had been the one who practically raised him.

He gently ruffled Keith’s hair. “You’re a little man now, aren’t you? You can play by yourself for a bit.”

Keith hesitated, then nodded slowly. “Okay.”

Darion rose and left without lingering.

By the time Miya returned, he was already gone. She glanced around the room before asking casually, “Where’s Dario?”

Keith looked up at her, fear and reliance mingling in his eyes. “Darry got a call and then he left.”

Miya merely nodded, her expression indifferent. Then she stepped forward and, with a swift motion, swept all the blocks off the hospital bed.

They scattered across the floor with a sharp clatter while Keith’s small body trembled at the sudden noise.

At Blackburn Manor, Darion stepped inside as dusk settled over the grounds, a faint chill still clung to him. He shrugged off his coat and tossed it aside before heading into the living room.

“What’s going on?” he asked.

Helen sat on the sofa, her expression stern. “Why did you arrange for Miya to stay at that company? You know perfectly well Thalia and Miya don’t get along

Danon settled into a single armchair, crossing his long legs with easy indifference. “That’s exactly why,” he said calmly. The misunderstanding between them has gone on long enough. Maybe working in the same place will give them a chance to

clear the air

“You” Helen had clearly not expected that answer. Her face darkened with irritation. “Did you even ask Thalia what she thinks? Did she agree to something like that?”

I’m doing this for her sake,” Darion replied.

Helen let out a quiet scoff. “It only counts if she thinks it’s good for her. Don’t let Miya go to that company tomorrow. Or are you trying to drive Thalia into filing for divorce again?”
