Chapter 92
Thalia’s hands curled into fists. The churning inside her refused to settle. Abruptly, she rose and headed for the door
“Stop. Darion’s voice was calm, quiet, but it cut through the air like a blade.
“You brought me here to torture me, didn’t you?” she demanded. “To make me watch you play father to another woman’s child, so devoted that you got yourself sterilized for him?”
She drew a sharp breath, her chest constricted as though pierced by a thousand needles, each inhale a fresh wound. “How could you be so cruel?”
Darion’s brow furrowed. “I was hoping you and Keith could grow closer.”
“That’s never going to happen.” Thalia whirled around and met his gaze squarely. “First, because of him, you pushed me aside and lied to me about more things than I can count. I’ll never forgive that.
“And second, he’s Miya’s son. I despise Miya. There’s no way I’m making nice with her child. So you might as well let that idea go.”
Her expression was cold, her eyes hard and glinting with the kind of pain that came from something shattered. Darion frowned as he took her in.
Keith, sensing the shift in the air, started crying.
Darion pulled him close, soothing him gently. “Hey, it’s okay. We’re not fighting.”
The boy hiccupped, tears still clinging to his lashes.
Thalia let out a dry laugh. “Well, he’s definitely her son. That ability to turn on the waterworks whenever it’s convenient must be genetic.”
“Don’t be cruel.” Darion’s gaze sharpened as he looked at her. “He’s just a child.”
Thalia’s smile turned mocking. “You’re the one who insisted on bringing me here. Now you don’t like what I have to say?”
Exhaustion washed over Darion, mingled with a flicker of frustration. But with the child still in his arms, he forced himself to stay calm.
Thalia looked away. “I’m only making everyone unhappy by staying,” she said, turning toward the door. “So let’s just call it
for the best.”
Darion’s jaw tightened. “Why can’t you do this for me? Why can’t you just accept him?”
She didn’t turn around. “Why can’t you stay away from them? For me?”
The silence that followed was absolute, broken only by Keith’s soft hiccupping sobs.
When Thalia spoke again, her voice was quieter, edged with something raw and tired. “Darion, I’m starting to wonder if you ever really loved me at all.”
But she didn’t wait for an answer. She pushed open the door and walked out.
Just then, the elevator doors opened, and Miya walked out, the nanny right behind her.
She stopped short, her expression shifting into something between surprise and concern. “Lia? I didn’t expect to see you

Thalia didn’t acknowledge her. She stepped past and pressed the button for the elevator.
Miya reached for her arm. “Lia, since you’re already here, why don’t you stay for lunch? Let me cook. We can all sit down together and talk things through. Please?”
“Get your hands off me!” Thalia wrenched her arm free.
Miya stumbled back and hit the ground with a theatrical cry. “Ow.”
The nanny rushed over. “Mrs. Blackburn, are you all right?”
