Oriana’s expression instantly deflated, her wide, watery eyes fixing on Zara in exasperation.
Zara chuckled softly, still amused. “Alright, alright, I’ll stop teasing. I just wanted to let you know–I’m at a hotel right now.”
Oriana relaxed a little. “What time did you get in last night? Why didn’t you call me?”
“I didn’t want to disturb you and your hus–uh, disturb your rest,” Zara said, catching herself halfway through as Oriana’s sharp glare cut through the screen.
Oriana huffed, crossing her arms. “Fine. Anyway, Micah said to have the guest room ready for you. You don’t need to stay at a hotel—”
Before she could finish, a loud crash echoed from Zara’s side of the call–something heavy tumbling across the floor.
Oriana’s brows furrowed. “Zara… who’s there with you?”
In the same instant, the lumpy pile of sheets beside her suddenly sprang to life. Kenny, red- eyed and furious, lunged toward the phone. Zara reacted instantly–leaning back and giving him a swift kick that sent him sprawling back under the bed.
She straightened her hair and replied smoothly, her tone calm and unbothered. “It’s nothing. The clumsy waiter dropped something while bringing breakfast.”
“Oh. Alright then,” Oriana said, not suspecting a thing.
“Anyway,” Zara continued quickly, eager to steer the conversation away, “just have your husband treat me to a nice meal later. Then we can hang out and have some fun. No need for me to stay at your place.”
Her eyes flicked down toward the man sitting on the floor, glaring at her with pure resentment. Zara smirked, adding dryly, “I wouldn’t want to be a third wheel.”
Oriana blinked, caught off guard.
She glanced off–screen at Micah, who was quietly kneading her calves.
Ever since they’d made their relationship official, he’d turned almost clingy–always within reach whenever she was home, unless he absolutely had to leave. His hands were rarely still: brushing through her hair, massaging her shoulders, rubbing her legs, or simply lacing his fingers with hers, tracing from her thumb to her pinky and back again, like he could never get

enough.
The thought made her cheeks warm. If Zara saw them like this…
She could already imagine it–Zara laughing herself silly.
Blushing, Oriana covered her face, half flustered, half amused.

“Alright then,” she said softly, giving in. “Take care of yourself at the hotel, okay? My phone’s always on. If anything happens, call me right away.”
“I know, I know,” Zara said with a grin. “You’re my only family in Jindiwood. If something comes up, you’ll be the first to know. Don’t worry.”
“Good. Have your breakfast then–I need to get ready for the hospital.”
“Got it. Once I finish my dad’s errand, I’ll come find you.”
“Deal.”
The call ended. Zara locked her phone and looked up–only to find Kenny staring at her, eyes clouded and unreadable.
Zara locked her phone and looked up–only to find Kenny staring at her, eyes clouded and unreadable. She tilted her head, amused. “What’s that look for?”
Kenny’s voice came out low, barely controlled. “Micah’s a clean freak. He hates having strangers in his space.”
He took a breath, his jaw tight. “I’ve never even stayed at his place when I was home–and yet she convinced him to invite you over.”
The bitterness in his tone was impossible to miss. Beneath the anger, Zara could see it- jealousy, simmering and raw.
Finally, he snapped, shouting at the ceiling, “I knew women were trouble!”
Zara nearly doubled over laughing.
Rage. Frustration. Jealousy. He was about to explode.
Zara’s lips twitched as she fought back laughter, but the sparkle in her eyes gave her away. She didn’t even have to make a sound–Kenny could feel her amusement.
He thought about the night before–his first time, stolen by this maddening woman who

The thought made his chest ache with a strange mix of humiliation and anger. Without a word, he grabbed his clothes, stormed into the bathroom, and slammed the door behind hin
When he emerged a few minutes later, fully dressed and expressionless, he stood in front of Zara and lifted his chin, his voice clipped and cold.
“Add me on PayPal.”
Zara blinked, caught off guard, but eventually rattled off her number.
