But…
Her fingers brushed against something cold and hard, jolting her completely awake.

Her eyes flew open. Bathed in the midday sun, an entire gold jewelry set lay glittering on the bedsheets. reflecting dazzling rays of light.
It was a complete collection: necklace, earrings, ring, bracelet, bangle–the Heritage Limited Edition series. She remembered seeing the advertisements everywhere when she’d gone shopping with Zara.
Oriana scrambled out of bed and hurried into the kitchen. “Micah!” She found him just as he was finishing lunch preparations, untying his apron strings. “Why is there so much gold on the bed?”
Micah had just finished preparing lunch and was untying his apron behind his back.
Hearing her, he turned and smiled, “The gift. I overlooked it before. Making up for it now.”
Oriana was taken aback.
She opened her mouth. “Is it… because of last night, you helping with my paper, and the gold this morning… are you trying to ‘compensate‘ me for everything Leo and the others gave to Luna?”
“This isn’t compensation.”
He carried the plate over, kissing her stunned face. “This was always yours. I just didn’t think of it before. I’ll try to do better from now on.”
A smile touched Oriana’s lips. “You’re already do.
A delicious aroma wafted up. She looked down
“Smells amazing!”
nore than enough.”
the plate; it was a sizzling, fragrant cutlet rice.
“Schnitzel, just learned it last night. Go wash up and try it.”
“Okay!”
She ran off a couple of steps, then dashed back to plant a loud kiss on Micah’s cheek. “Your reward.”
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him raise his other hand to pull her back in, so she quickly made a swift escape.
If they kissed any longer, she’d be late for her first day back at work.
Micah left standing there shook his head, a doting laugh escaping him.
The jewelry set Micah gave her was all heavy pieces. In the end, Oriana only chose to wear the necklace with the lock pendant, storing the rest away.

But the lock pendant was still quite large, covering nearly half her palm, encircled with small diamonds.
Luckily, the weather was still cold, and she wore layers, so it was hidden under her clothes. She planned to switch the gold chain for a longer cord later when the weather warmed up, so it wouldn’t be as noticeable.
It wasn’t good to attract too much attention.
After the delicious lunch, Oriana helped Micah change the water for the two little turtles and water the plants, then hurried out the door just in time.
At the hospital, all the junior interns like Oriana received small gifts from the senior doctors–for good luck, wishing everyone a smooth, healthy, and safe new year.
Oriana first went to find William to submit her draft.
They had discussed the general direction before. William didn’t pay much attention at first, just skimming it.
But once he looked, he realized Oriana’s initial draft had some differences from what they had previously discussed.
William asked her to wait, pulled his reading glasses from the drawer, and started reading carefully.
The more he read, the more apparent the smile on his face became.
“Not bad! Several of these argument entry points are really eye–catching. Very insightful!”
The parts William was praising were all inspired by Micah. Blushing, she admitted, “Micah gave me those suggestions.”
“That guy?”
William was surprised for a moment, then snorted, “He’s full of ideas, isn’t he?”
Feeling a bit guilty, Oriana said, “Yes, most of the parts you found outstanding came from him. So I feel a bit undeserving of your praise.”
“Don’t say that. You’re the author of this draft. Even if Micah gave you direction and ideas, it was you who understood them and presented them so perfectly. You don’t need to be so modest.”
William sighed, “Originally, the purpose of publishing these academic papers was to provide learning directions, and research value for those who come after. But now, it’s unconsciously become a tool for people to chase fame and fortune, losing its original meaning!
“Your draft is excellent. If submitted, it could definitely be formally published. For this review, I think you can easily rank in the top two.”
“Getting your approval is more than enough for me!”
William’s words greatly encouraged Oriana. They discussed a bit longer before she headed to the locker room to change.

Just as she pushed the door open a crack, she heard voices inside.
“Wow, Luna, your boyfriend is so sweet! He bought you so many gifts!”
“Yeah! Especially that necklace, the diamond one! So sparkly!”

Luna’s face was glowing. As if afraid of being teased further, she quickly put her clothes on, feigning shyness. “Grant has always liked giving me gifts. I keep telling him I can’t be too flashy at the hospital, that I have too many to wear, but he just keeps giving them.“.
“Oh, Luna, you don’t know how lucky you are! If I ask my guy for gifts, he just plays dead!”
“Exactly, Luna! You can’t refuse gifts from your boyfriend. You have to accept them. The more they invest, the less willing they’ll be to leave you.”
Luna smiled gracefully, seeming to find this reasonable, and nodded. “You’re right!”
