She quickly screenshotted the ringleader’s face and opened a chat with her well–connected trust–fund friend. “Find out who this guy is,” she typed, attaching the images.
The medical SCI journal team had settled on NE, the most authoritative clinical journal, as their publication target. Within an hour of forming the expert panel, they’d determined the thematic direction and division of labor, diving straight into data collection and analysis.
Assigned to the same team, Oriana and Leo briefly discussed their respective tasks after the meeting. Leo had expected Oriana, as a first–time contributor to such a top–tier journal, to be hesitant and in need of his guidance. To his surprise, she took the lead immediately, outlining her ideas with sharp logic and fluency. Though the topic had just been decided, she already had a clear plan of action.
Leo found his gaze drawn to her–it was the first time they had worked in such close proximity. Unconsciously, he became lost in thought, struck by a hauntingly familiar quality in her features that echoed someone deeply important to him.
When Oriana finished and noticed Leo staring intently, she pressed her lips together and asked, “Do you have anything to add?” She didn’t ask for revisions, only additions–a testament to her complete confidence in her approach.
Snapping back to reality, Leo’s eyes filled with admiration. He had worked on numerous publications with Cormac, often assisting junior colleagues, but this was the first time he had encountered someone who could stand as his true equal.
When he continued to stare without responding, Oriana frowned in displeasure and called his name, “Leo.”
Startled, he met her earnest gaze. “Your approach is excellent. It’s thoroughly detailed.”
Oriana nodded. “Alright, let’s leave it at that for now. We’ll review our initial findings the day after tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
With their discussion concluded, Oriana turned and walked away without hesitation.
As she turned to leave, he called out impulsively, “Oriana.”
She paused. “Something to add?”
“Not work–related.” He hesitated before asking bluntly, “After leaving the Sterling family, did

From what Luna had said, after she was welcomed into the Sterling family, Oriana felt that Luna had stolen the affection that rightfully belonged to her. In a fit of anger, she cut ties with the family and never sought out her birth parents.
A sudden thought struck Leo: What if Luna and Oriana had been switched at birth? Could she be…?
Oriana was visibly surprised by his question. She raised an eyebrow and was about to respond when his phone rang.
Leo lowered his head. “Sorry, I need to take this.”
Oriana nodded.
Deeply devoted to his research, Leo still used an outdated smartphone with a faulty speaker. The moment he answered, Kai’s noisy voice blared through. “Leo, get out here now! I’m at the hospital entrance! It’s urgent, really important!”
Leo glanced at Oriana. “I’m still on duty. Just tell me what it is.”
“What else could it be? It’s about our benefactor! Can’t you just step out for a minute? The hospital won’t fall apart without one intern! Everyone’s here except you. Hurry up!”
After Kai ranted and hung up, Leo looked embarrassed. “I—”
“Go ahead if you have things to handle.” Oriana had clearly heard Kai. Though unsure if it involved her, she added meaningfully, “But stop doing foolish things under the guise of helping others. Beyond self–satisfaction, it serves no purpose.”
Leaving him stunned, she walked away.
Leo hurried to the hospital entrance and got into Kai’s conspicuous van. As expected, Ethan, Arthur, and Oscar were all inside.
Ethan tapped the table and looked at Kai. “Everyone’s here. Spit it out–what’s this about?”
Kai briefly summarized his conversation with Bramwell. “My agent has already tried calling in favors, but it’s no use. We need to think of another way, and fast. The selection for the Top Talent Program ends this month.”
