Micah found a secluded corner and sat down by himself, with Jett stubbornly following him.

“Alright, don’t be so glum. Tonight, all of us are here to keep you company.”

Micah let out a cold laugh, his chiseled jaw lifting slightly, his expression as aloof as a king surveying his domain.

“Aside from me, everyone else brought their significant other. Are you sure you’re here to keep me company?”

Jett glanced at the lively, lovey–dovey crowd and scratched his nose. “Well… it’s the holiday season! In our line of work, it’s all about the details. Gotta balance buddies and partners, of course, buddies definitely come first!”

“Jett!”

No sooner had he finished speaking than Jett’s wife called his name. Jett immediately scurried over to attend to her.

“Yes, my dear? What can I do for you?”

“I feel like having fish. Go to the kitchen and pick one with no bones.”

“Right away!”

Micah, who had just been declared ‘first priority‘ was speechless.

With Jett gone, the incessant chatter from him stopped, making the sweet, intimate sounds from the others even more unavoidable.

Work at the Research Center was usually busy. It was rare to get time off for Valentine’s Day, so Jett had directly invited all the colleagues and their families for a meal. The gathering was bustling with noise and excitement.

Micah hadn’t really wanted to come.

But Oriana had said she had something on tonight and couldn’t make it back. Worried he wouldn’t eat properly, and knowing Jett had organized this, she insisted he go.

It was annoying enough not being able to spend Valentine’s Day with Oriana.

Micah left the private room and walked out to the viewing balcony.

He let out a heavy, pent–up sigh and took out his phone. It was quiet, without a single new

message.

“Is she that busy?” Micah murmured, unable to hide the loneliness in his eyes.

Boom!

A loud roar, followed by countless fireworks bursting into bloom one after another in the night sky above.

Micah looked up at the colorful fireworks. The large display screens on several surrounding high–rises were all broadcasting the live, romantic proposal scene of Luna and Grant.

Watching the two of them clinging together, all lovey–dovey, Micah felt even more annoyed

now.

Micah turned to leave. Just then, a drone flashing with a green light slowly flew up beside him, buzzing and emitting a mechanical voice. “Mr. Caldwell, would you like to look at the stars together?”

Inviting a visually impaired person to look at the stars?

If it were anyone else, Micah would have ignored it long ago and strode off on his long legs.

But as if possessed, Micah didn’t leave immediately. Instead, he raised an eyebrow, a slight curve touching his lips. “How?”

The drone flew in an arc, coming a bit closer above his head, continuing its buzzing broadcast. “Extend your right hand. At a 45–degree angle, there’s a ribbon. I’ll lead the way.”

Micah reached out as instructed and indeed found a ribbon. He hooked his index finger and looped it around the ribbon. “Lead on.”

“Go! Let’s set off! Welcome, Mr. Micah Caldwell, aboard the Stellar Cruise! Please proceed straight for 50 feet, then go down three steps. Destination: Sirius!

“In ancient mythology, Sirius represents loyalty and light. It’s the most dazzling and brilliant star in the entire night sky.

Following the directions, Micah arrived at the designated spot where another drone descended with a silken strand. His fingers closed around the ribbon with practiced ease.

“Journey continues! Now proceed thirty paces southeast to Vega’s constellation!”

Before the automated narration could continue, the man collecting his third ribbon murmured wryly, “Orion at least could chase his Pleiades across the heavens, while my wife remains beyond my reach on Valentine’s.”

The drone shuddered with mechanical embarrassment. “Ahem! Redirecting! Westward from Vega lies asteroid Psyche – named for the soulmate who earned Eros‘ eternal devotion through trials of heart and spirit!”

Playing along, Micah gathered ribbon after ribbon until his hand could scarcely hold them all, the drone finally guiding him back to where he began. One by one, the star–drones ascended like Icarus toward their celestial namesakes, until man–made constellations merged with the true brilliance of the night.
