Luna looked stunned and hurt. “Dad, how could you even think that about me?”

“Luna, I’m not blaming you,” Bramwell said with that heavy, fatherly tone of his. “I know you didn’t want to trouble Mr. Stone too much. But he’s helped you so much–as your parents, we should personally go thank him. Don’t take it the wrong way. We have to show gratitude.”
Luna pretended to be touched as she looked at her scheming father, though her face was already stiff from the act.
“You’re right, Dad, but” She sighed softly, feigning hesitation. “But if Mr. Stone really is busy, it wouldn’t be appropriate for me to just show up with you unannounced. That might actually leave a bad impression on him.”
Bramwell’s expression shifted–for a moment, he was speechless.
She always has an excuse to reject us. What’s her game this time?
To him, it was obvious Luna simply didn’t want them meeting Xander. She was afraid that if they got close, they’d share in Grant’s resources and favors.
She wasn’t even married yet, and she was already siding with Grant. In the future, she’d be
even worse.
Bramwell’s teeth clenched in frustration, but he had to keep pretending–he couldn’t risk tearing the mask off just yet.
Luna coaxed her parents a little longer, promising she’d let them know the moment she heard from Xander. Only then did she manage to send them off in a cab.
The second they left, she finally exhaled in relief.
But before she could relax, her phone rang. Luna glanced at the screen–and immediately hung up.
A few seconds later, the phone rang again, this time from a different number.
She took a deep breath and answered, her tone cold. “What do
you
want?”
“Luna, I saw how happy you looked tonight. I just wanted to congratulate you. Why are you being so heartless to me?”
“Henley!” Luna hissed. “Say what you want and cut the crap!”

“Luna, you’re marrying such a perfect man. Of course, I want to offer my blessings–and maybe ask what kind of pre–wedding gift your brilliant fiancé is giving you.”
Luna’s eyes
darkened. “That money’s for the Sterling family. It has nothing to do with you.”
“Luna, that hurts. No matter what, we were your family for over ten years.”
“Henley, don’t push your luck! The money I gave you is more than you’d earn in several lifetimes. Don’t think you can keep bleeding me dry. I’m done letting you leech off me!”
She slammed the call off, breathing hard to calm her rage.
When she turned around, she nearly bumped into Grant.
Her heart skipped–but thankfully, his brows were only furrowed in confusion, not suspicion. He hadn’t overheard her.
“Luna,” he asked quietly, “is Mr. Stone refusing to meet me because he’s unhappy with me?”
Luna quickly replaced her scowl with a warm, reassuring smile. “Of course not, Grant. You’re outstanding. Mr. Stone is very pleased with you.”
She wrapped herself around his arm, her tone soft and honeyed. “He’s just really busy lately. Nyla told me he’s going to be a special guest at the AI Summit!”
Grant blinked in surprise. Then his whole face lit up. “Wait, Mr. Stone’s attending the Summit?”
“Yes,” Luna said, smiling sweetly. “I’ve already planned it out. The Summit allows each attendee to bring a family member. You’ll take me, and we’ll meet Mr. Stone together.”
That sentence was exactly what Grant needed to hear–a solid reassurance that soothed all his doubts.
Luna smiled with practiced innocence. “It’s a shame my parents can’t attend. But it can’t be helped. Mr. Stone’s not the type of man ordinary people can just walk up to. He’s far too important and private.”
Grant’s excitement only grew. He squeezed her hand tightly. “That’s fine. We’ll send our regards on their behalf. Mr. Stone will understand.”
“Okay,” Luna hummed softly.
Overwhelmed by emotion, Grant pulled her into his arms. “Luna, having you by my side is the greatest fortune of my life.”

She smiled up at him, eyes glimmering with fake tenderness. “And I feel the same. As long as I can marry you, I will have no regrets left.”
Under the glittering lights, they embraced like the picture–perfect couple–two people seemingly bound by love, though everything about it was performance.

Meanwhile, at the banquet, Jett and a few others came over to toast Micah. Normally, Micah never drank at events, but tonight he made an exception–one cup after another, though he replaced alcohol with water.
Oriana had to stop him several times before finally dragging him home.
If he kept going, she was afraid he’d spend the night hugging the toilet instead of sleeping.
But truth be told, Micah barely slept anyway.
He was greedy–he wanted everything. After getting Oriana’s surprise earlier, he still insisted on giving himself the gift he’d prepared for the night.
Oriana wasn’t expecting it at all.
It started with Micah casually suggesting a late–night snack, and somehow, that led the two of them into the kitchen together.
