Oriana knew Micah couldn’t stand filth, so she tidied up the couch bed in the outer room for him, laying down a clean sheet. “Tired? Want to take a nap?” she asked softly.

Micah caught her hand. “Come lie down with me.”

Oriana blinked in surprise. “It’s too small for two people.”

“I’ll sleep on the edge. Just let me hold you.”

“But-”

She didn’t even get the chance to finish before Micah pulled her down and wrapped her in his

arms.

The VIP room came with a small private suite, so the couch bed wasn’t very big.

Lying on her side, Oriana glanced at Micah, who had stretched out beside her, and she quickly scooted in toward the wall.

Micah shifted slightly away to give her space. “It’s fine. Just lie still.”

“If I lie still, there’s no space left for you.”

“There is,” he said calmly. “It’s wide enough.”

Oriana didn’t believe him. She reached behind him to feel for herself–sure enough, half his body was hanging off the bed.

He was lying.

She shot him a glare. “Still trying to fool me? Move in, or you’re gonna fall off in your sleep.”

When he didn’t budge, she deliberately added, “If you fall, your clothes will get dirty.”

That did it. She’d hit his weakness.

Micah gave in, shifting closer until he was properly lying beside her. His left hand settled against her back, patting it gently. “There. Sleep.”

Oriana nodded and closed her eyes.

After a whole morning of tension over Kenny, the exhaustion finally began to sink in.

But her eyes fluttered open again, falling on the man’s perfect profile inches away,

“Micah?” she whispered.

“Huh?”

“Does Kenny like someone?” Oriana murmured.

Micah smiled faintly, “Why ask that all of a sudden?”

“He’s always been so restrained. Maybe he just didn’t want to betray the girl he likes.”

Micah thought for a moment. “I don’t think so. He’s never mentioned anyone.”

Oriana narrowed her eyes at him. “Do you two even talk about that kind of thing?”

He shook his head, looking perfectly honest. “No. But if he did have someone in mind, Grandpa would’ve been the first to blurt it out.”

That did sound true.

“Whether he likes someone or not, I kind of understand him.” Micah’s tone deepened.

“Understand?” Oriana lifted her dazed look to him.

Still gently patting her back, he said quietly, “If it were me, I’d probably do the same. If it’s not the woman I love, I wouldn’t touch anyone else. I wouldn’t dirty myself.”

He paused, then added, voice lower, rougher, and more serious-“But if it were you, I’d want you to think about your own body first. Don’t for yourself and hurt yourself.”

His tone was solemn, too sincere to be casual.

Oriana let out a soft laugh, caught between amusement and warmth.

After a long silence, she pinched his car teasingly. “Relax, I’ll take good care of myself.”

Then she added, half–joking, “And I’ll protect you too. Won’t let anyone else take advantage of you.”

Micah’s serious expression finally broke into a smile. He chuckled lowly, buried his face against her chest, and kept rhythmically patting her back.

“We should just hope neither of us ever ends up in that kind of situation.”

“Fair point,” Oriana agreed with a small laugh.

“Alright, no more talking. Sleep.”

“Okay.”

Oriana wasn’t sure how long she had slept before faint voices outside the door stirred her awake.

Beside her, Micah’s brown eyes opened too, still hazy with sleep.

Then, all of a sudden, the door was pushed open. Startled, Oriana sat up—just in time to lock eyes with a nurse standing at the door.

The woman’s face looked oddly familiar. Their eyes met for just a fleeting moment before she quickly pulled back and shut the door behind her.

The woman froze as if she’d seen something scandalous, then instantly backed out, shutting the door behind her.

Her muffled voice came through the wood. “Everyone, please wait a bit before going in. It might be inconvenient right now.”

Oriana blinked in confusion.

She glanced down at herself and Micah–clothes neat, nothing out of place.

What exactly was inconvenient?

“What happened?” Micah murmured, sitting up.

“Probably Kenny’s parents. I’ll go check.”

Oriana climbed over Micah, swung the door open, and found several people standing outside.

Noah and Nelson were there, along with a weary, pale–looking couple.

As for the nurse, Oriana caught a glimpse of her retreating down the corridor, almost running

away.

Oriana frowned slightly but quickly turned back to the newcomers. “Hello, Mr. Caldwell,
