Darius thought for a moment. Once Kenny got home, he really needed to talk with that boy; at the very least, Kenny should know the basics of being a husband and a father.

The Caldwell family was wealthy and influential, but Darius cared far more about his daughter’s future happiness, something no amount of money could buy.

“Dad, did you get the money from the Caldwell family?” Zara suddenly asked.

Darius blinked, snapping out of his thoughts. “Yeah, it’s all been transferred to your mother’s account, thirty million dollars in total. The payment for the jewelry came separately, about five–point–two million.”

Zara’s eyes lit up. She guessed that should be enough to solve most of the company’s problems.

But just as she started to feel relieved, Darius continued, “Unfortunately, we don’t have much savings left. The little villa Noah left you out by the suburbs? I’ve asked someone to sell it. It should bring in around half a million or six hundred thousand. Add that to what we already have, your mom and I will scrape together thirty–nine million, plus the jewelry. It’s all yours. You’ll take everything with you to the Caldwell family.”

Zara’s mind went blank for a second, and then her face twisted in disbelief. “I don’t want it! What are you doing? That’s your money, not mine! Why would I take it to the Caldwell family? I’m not taking it!”

“Zara!” Darius grew anxious, too. “The Caldwell family is generous and values proper manners. They gave us so much; we can’t look cheap in return. If your mother and I keep all of it, they’ll think less of you once you’re there.”

“Kenny’s family has more money than they can count! They don’t care about this kind of thing! It’s for you, not me. I’m not taking it!” Zara’s eyes turned red with anger. Maybe it was the pregnancy hormones, but her emotions came fast and hard, spinning out of her control.

Even she felt frustrated at herself. Before Darius could say another word, she snapped, “If you give it to me, I’ll spend every single penny! I’m not letting the Caldwell family benefit from a cent of it! Total nonsense!”

With that, she stormed upstairs.

Willa gasped and hurried after her. “Slow down! You’re pregnant!”

Darius looked guilty. “I–I didn’t think she’d get so worked up!”

His thoughts were a mess. Then suddenly, a realization hit him. His face went pale as he looked at Willa. “Do you think she found out about the company’s debts?”

Willa’s eyelids twitched hard, and her chest tightened. “No–no way. You think that’s why she rushed to get married?”

They both fell silent. Neither of them said another word, but the unspoken understanding hung heavy between them–and so did the worry that neither dared to voice.

That quiet, anxious tension lingered until Kenny arrived.

Dragging a small suitcase, he greeted them politely, “Hi, Mr. Radcliffe, Mrs. Radcliffe.”

“Kenny, you’re here! Come in, please.”

Darius and Willa welcomed him inside.

When they noticed him glancing around as if searching for someone, Darius gave an awkward cough. “Uh, Zara’s upstairs. We had a bit of an argument just now. She’s probably not in the best mood at the moment. Kenny, maybe you can go calm her down?”

Kenny’s brows lifted slightly.

So she is a little tyrant, acting all high and mighty even at home?

He could practically picture Zara’s smug little face in his mind.

Though he muttered plenty of complaints inwardly, Kenny’s expression stayed composed. He nodded politely. “Don’t worry, Mr. Radcliffe. I know how she is. I won’t hold it against her.”

Darius let out a sigh of relief. “Good, that’s good.”

After a pause, he casually shifted the topic. “Kenny, when did you and Zara start dating? I heard from

your parents that you were studying overseas before; how did you two even meet?”

The sudden question made Kenny’s heart skip a beat. He thought for a second, then carefully replied, “Actually, we met online through gaming.”
