Willa gave Darius a light shove. She thought what he’d said was a bit out of line.
Darius wasn’t some old–fashioned, rigid dad. If his daughter was happy enough to love Kenny and willing to marry and have a baby, then as her father, he couldn’t bear to see her hopes crushed.
No matter what, his duty was to be a good father–to protect the Radcliffe family and provide his daughter with the strongest, safest harbor. Beyond that, she could do whatever made her happy.
His daughter was born to enjoy the world, not to live under her parents‘ constant supervision.
With that thought, Darius felt his mind clear. He realized that the argument he’d had with Zara just now suddenly seemed unnecessary.
If she didn’t want to take the money with her, and the company happened to need it to stay afloat, there was no reason to insist on it.
If he worked hard enough–and with the Caldwell family connection–he could still build something strong enough that no one in that household would dare look down on his daughter ever again.
The thought filled Darius with renewed determination.
He was just about to pass down some fatherly wisdom about being a husband and a dad when hurried footsteps echoed from upstairs.
“Kenny! Come up here, quick!” Zara’s anxious voice rang down from above.
All three of them looked up to see her leaning over the railing, clearly flustered.
Darius couldn’t help but chuckle at her reaction in anger, pretending to look stern. “What’s this? You think your mom and I are going to make trouble for him?”
Still angry with her father, Zara refused to look at him. Her cheeks puffed up in irritation as she stubbornly fixed her eyes on Kenny. “Come upstairs.”
Kenny caught the urgency in her gaze, the corner of his mouth twitching upward. Grabbing his suitcase, he gave Darius and Willa a polite nod. “Mr. and Mrs. Radcliffe, I’ll head up and get settled first.”
“Go ahead,” Willa said with a fond smile. “Take a break. I’ll call you both down for dinner later.”

Under Zara’s impatient stare, Kenny deliberately slowed his pace, climbing the stairs like a runway model.
In the end, Zara lost all patience. She rushed down the stairs, grabbed his arm, and dragged. him back up to her room.
Bang! The bedroom door slammed shut behind them.
Downstairs, Darius pointed toward the ceiling, his finger trembling with mock outrage. “Guess I was worried for nothing! Listen to that–she’s protecting him like he’s some kind of super
treasure.”
Willa, on the other hand, was smiling. “Shouldn’t you be glad? It means they have a good relationship.”
“I am,” Darius said, grinning–until the thought hit him. His expression fell. “But once I remember she’s moving all the way to Jindiwood, I can’t be happy about that.”
Willa’s smile faded, too, a faint sadness flickering across her face.
But moments later, Darius brightened again. “Honey, let’s move to Jindiwood, too!
“Our daughter and Oriana are both there. We can go, too–move the whole family! That way, whenever they want to come home, they’ll always have a place to return to.”

Willa stared at him, stunned by the wild idea.
But the more she thought about it, the harder it was to resist. “Wouldn’t that be difficult?”
“For our daughter and grandchild? No matter how hard it is, it’s worth it.”
Willa hesitated for a moment, then nodded with a soft smile. “All right. I’m with you.”
Upstairs, unaware that her parents had just decided to relocate their lives for her, Zara closed the door and found herself face–to–face with Kenny.
The Radcliffe family lived comfortably, but compared to the Caldwell family, their wealth still fell short–and it showed.
Zara’s bedroom was almost half the size of Kenny’s back home.
For an average family, it was spacious enough.

But Zara’s room was crammed with years‘ worth of hobbies that changed every six months LEGO sets, custom keyboards, Disney plushies, blind boxes, and countless garne models.
Kenny glanced around, frowning as he rubbed his chin. “How did you even manage to fill the whole room like this? Are you a dung beetle or something?”
Zara clenched her fists, resisting the urge to slap him. Her glare could’ve cut glass. “Keep: talking like that, and I won’t save you.”
“Save me? Please. You must be joking.”
Kenny threw himself into her favorite single–seat rocking chair, crossing one leg casually. “I

Zara’s heart skipped. “What crisis?”
Kenny explained how Darius had questioned him about how they’d met and started dating.
After all, their story had to be consistent.
Hearing that he hadn’t said anything out of line, Zara exhaled in relief. “Guess you’re not completely useless.”
“Of course not,” Kenny said smugly, rocking the chair with a self–satisfied grin.
