In the car, Kenny drove while Micah sat in the passenger seat. In the back, Zara clutched Oriana’s hand like a lifeline.
“Oriana, you’re leaving tomorrow? But I just got back!”
“I’ll be home in half a month. And you’ll have your parents with you,” Oriana said, assuming Zara was worried about being bored.
But Zara exploded. “That’s exactly why life is miserable!”
“Huh?”
“You have no idea. To test whether Kenny is ‘qualified,‘ they’ve tried every trick they could think of–on me!”
With tears streaming down her face, Zara listed every hardship she’d suffered in recent days.
“They told him to take care of me. He made green peppers for every single meal. And I hate green peppers!”
Kenny, who was driving, couldn’t help defending himself. “Once I realized you hated them, I never made them again.”
“That’s nothing! They hated that I stayed home gaming all day and night, so they told Kenny to get me to work out. God, they said swimming was great for pregnant women, but he almost drowned me!”
Kenny scratched his head. “I didn’t hold you tight enough—that’s why you slipped! And it’s your fault for squirming!”
Not to mention, both of them had been wearing very little in the pool.
Zara had panicked and clung to him for dear life–wrapped so tightly around him that he could barely breathe. Their bodies had been pressed from top to bottom, leaving no space at all.
Kenny spaced out for a second, which triggered the smart–drive to take over automatically.
Zara didn’t buy his excuses. “You did it on purpose. I don’t trust you. Keep this up, and I swear I’ll be depressed before the baby even exists.”
Watching the bickering couple, Oriana could only sigh and cover Zara’s mouth. “Stop talking

nonsense.”
Zara grumbled twice, but, seeing Oriana’s disapproving look, she obediently shut up.
Kenny came back to his senses and took control of the wheel again. He glanced at them through the mirror, then turned to Micah with a helpless look. “Micah, I finally get why you married Oriana.”
Micah raised a brow.
Kenny continued on his own. “Marrying a chill woman really saves a man’s life. I honestly don’t know how the two of them became best friends. Their personalities aren’t even in the same universe!”
Zara sharpened her voice in warning. “Kenny, I can accept you comparing me to Oriana. But if you compare me to anyone else, I’ll assassinate you.”
Kenny’s neck shrank instantly.
With their nonstop squabbling, the four of them eventually arrived at the city hall.
They parked, got out one after another, and were about to head inside when they turned a corner and saw a crowd blocking the entrance.
Plenty of people were holding up phones and camera gear, filming someone.
Zara, a lifelong gossip addict, dove right in without a second thought.
Kenny nearly had a heart attack chasing her. “Slow down!”
“If I slow down, I’ll miss the fun!” she yelled back, not bothering to look at him.
Kenny could only shield her from behind, resigned.
Oriana tugged Micah. “Should we go check it out, too?”
“Okay.”

“Thank you all for the well–wishes. Grant and his fiancée are heading inside to get their marriage license. Everyone, please make a little room!”
Alaric stood at the front, handing out fistfuls of premium chocolates–whoever came got one.

Nearby, a professional PR rep guided the reporters who had received chocolates off to the side.
They had already captured photos of Grant and Luna walking in hand–in–hand, looking blissfully in love. Their headline quota for the day was done, so there was no need to keep following.
The crowd gradually dispersed.
Just as Zara squeezed her way in, someone shoved a pile of chocolates into her hands. She looked up–and locked eyes with Alaric.
Both froze for a split second. Then Zara recoiled like she’d been handed something filthy and shoved everything back at him in one go.
“Ugh, don’t give me any! I’m not congratulating you!”
After pushing the chocolates away, she turned immediately to Kenny. “Give me a wipe! Quick! I need to clean my hands–this is bad luck!”
Alaric stood there, stunned.
The reporters had already been escorted away, and Zara hadn’t exactly been quiet, so Grant and Luna, who had been walking ahead, turned around at the commotion.
