The two men exchanged displeased looks. But when they noticed Oriana and Micah walking a few steps behind Zara, their expressions shifted into something far more complicated.

“Oriana, are you here to congratulate Grant and me on getting our marriage license, too?”

Before Oriana could respond, Zara, who had just finished wiping her hands clean with a wet wipe, pressed a hand to her chest and dry–

heaved in pure disgust.

“I’m gonna be sick. Luna, who do you think you are? After all the filthy tricks you pulled behind the scenes to screw over Oriana, you still have the nerve to say something like that?”

Zara glared at her, eyes full of contempt.

Luna’s smile froze for a beat, then she forced her lips back into a smirk. Her gaze swept over Oriana with deliberate ambiguity.

She covered her mouth and let out a soft gasp, feigning surprise. “If you’re not here because of Grant and me, then are you at city hall to file some paperwork of your own?”

A strange glint flickered in Luna’s eyes as she looked back and forth between Oriana and Micah.

She couldn’t stand seeing Oriana standing next to Micah. In Luna’s mind, someone of Oriana’s terrible background had no right to be anywhere near a man of his status.

Luna was practically hoping Oriana was here to get divorced.

The implication dripping from her tone made all of them sick.

Oriana’s jaw tightened, but Zara reacted first–and hardest.

“Ugh! You venomous woman! How dare you curse Oriana like that? I should knock your teeth out!”

Zara rolled up her sleeves and lunged forward, ready to tear Luna’s face off.

Kenny grabbed her around the waist in time. “Don’t be reckless!”

“Kenny! Let go! She’s slandering Micah and Oriana, and you’re just standing there?”

Kenny’s jaw twitched. His gaze swept over Luna with a cold edge. “The Caldwell family has always believed in actions, not empty threats. Running your mouth won’t get you anywhere.

And you’re technically part of the Caldwell family now. Could you at least try to act like it?”

Zara shot back loudly, “Nope! Not happening!”

Luna startled, eyes widening as she locked onto Zara. “You’re pregnant with Kenny’s baby?”

Zara looked disgusted. “How is that any of your damn business?”

It was obvious why Oriana’s group was at the city hall.

Luna bit her lip so hard it nearly bled, jealousy boiling inside her.

It was bad enough that Oriana married into the Caldwell family; now Zara was joining them,

too.

All the good fortune was landing in their laps.

Not wanting to give trouble more room to grow, Luna wrapped her arms around Grant’s and spoke in a sugary, coaxing voice. “Grant, let’s go inside and get everything done. We can’t wait too long. When the buzz is going to spike, your clients from Dudbein will start calling you for contract signings.”

Grant tore his gaze away from Oriana and lifted his chin slightly. “Okay. Let’s go.”

Once the two disappeared through the doors, Kenny finally loosened his hold on Zara.

But she shot him a dramatic eye–roll.

Kenny scratched his head. “So are we still getting our license today?”

Running into Luna and Grant here had thrown him off. He wouldn’t admit it out loud, but it soured his mood too.

“Of course we are. Why wouldn’t we?” Zara didn’t even hesitate. She clenched her fist. “We’ll get married the same day they do. I bet our marriage will last way longer than theirs!”

“What–how is that even a thing? What kind of weird competition is that supposed to be?”

Kenny stared at her, dumbfounded. A woman’s heart truly was an unfathomable mystery.

Oriana walked over, smoothing down Zara’s hair that had gotten messy during her earlier struggle.

“Don’t worry about them. If you two want to get your license, then go.”

Kenny just sighed in defeat before being dragged inside by the fiery, unstoppable Zara.

Oriana and Micah stayed behind. Oriana lifted her phone, recording little snippets as they walked. Every now and then, she glanced back to make sure Micah was still close behind her.
