As she folded clothes, Oriana glanced sideways and caught Micah frowning as if carrying the weight of the world. She couldn’t help but chuckle. You’re not seriously thinking I’d head back carly, are you?

Micah just scowled and stayed silent.

Oriana stuck out her tongue playfully but didn’t dare tease him any further; she didn’t want to push Micah into a rage.

Being hundreds of miles apart, if Micah really got mad, it would take some serious effort to calm him down.

Soon, their roommates returned. Oriana said goodbye to Micah, and the four of them pitched in to tidy up the house.

Outside, a red sports car was covered in patches of mud, barely showing any of its original shine.

Kai looked at his beloved car, then at Oriana’s busy figure moving by the window not far away, pinching his nose in frustration. He couldn’t be more annoyed.

He thought their hometown was already rundown, but at least the roads should be decent, right?

It’s 2025. How could there still be places without paved asphalt? It’s one thing for the place to be shabby, but everywhere was littered with chicken droppings, duck droppings, and cow dung. One wrong step, and the stench would linger in your nose forever!

That aside, how could Micah be so clueless?

He was supposed to be from a wealthy family, deeply devoted to his wife.

Oriana came here as a volunteer, and Micah didn’t even bother to arrange for the environment to be cleaned up beforehand. Spending over two weeks here had to be miserable!

Village chief Nash Lennox saw Kai’s clearly annoyed expression and forced a sheepish smile. Mr. Sullivan, we didn’t know you were coming ahead of time, so the village didn’t get a chance to clean up.”

Kai, a wellknown celebrity, had heard about Oriana before.

He gave a deadpan look. Whether I come or not doesn’t matter. But isn’t there a team of volunteer doctors here? Shouldn’t they have helped tidy things up before arriving?

As soon as Kai finished speaking, his expression changed.

His feet felt soft and squishy, so-

He didn’t dare look down because the foul stench was already filling his nostrils. He felt utterly defeated.

Nash replied reluctantly, Yes, that’s also our oversight. But fortunately, the volunteers have all accepted the state of the village, Mr. Sullivan.

Nash didn’t dare say outright that Kai was spoiled.

Kai’s face darkened even further. He shot Nash a sharp glare, then pulled out his phone to call his manager. I’m donating money to Sunrise Village in Lightrin. Yeah, under my name, every last penny, for infrastructure improvements. Spread the wordif any sensible fans want to contribute, they’ll join in. Consider it a charitable cause.

Nash beamed. Thank you, Mr. Sullivan. You’re truly generous!

Kai hung up without flattering Nash and waved a hand toward the nearby houses. Enough with the excuses. Go find better houses for the volunteers in that building and have them move over.

Nash looked troubled. The village already made an effort to clear out the better houses for the medical volunteers. If you want something nicer, there’s only my place left, but it’s smallonly two rooms. One is for you, Mr. Sullivan, and the other can house maybe one more person. That won’t be enough for everyone.

Kai’s brow furrowed deeply. Only one room?

Yes, that’s right.

Seriously inconvenient. I’ll figure something out.

Kai scowled and turned away, limping because he didn’t dare put weight on the foot that had stepped in the mess.

Two hours later, after finishing the cleanup, dusk was settling in. Everyone gathered to discuss cooking and set up a table in the yard for dinner.

I’ll make some roasted chicken wings.”

Sounds good. I’ll prepare the salmon.

I’ll make a beef stew. Dr. Sterling, you can handle the cabbage. The four of us can keep it simple.”

Oriana scratched her cheek awkwardly. II don’t know how to cook. I can help out, though. That’s something I’m good at.

She knew her limits and didn’t want to mess things up.

Besides, when tidying up earlier, she had already cleaned the kitchen. That big pot had to be heated with firewood, which was much harder than cooking on a stove in the city. Oriana wasn’t about to overestimate herself.
