The surrounding medical staff listened in dead silence, not daring to utter a word, afraid of being implicated.
They never imagined that Lottic, who had spoken so confidently just moments ago, would end up hoist with her own petard!
Lottie’s face was ashen. By the end, her eyes were rimmed red, struggling to hold back humiliated tears.
Witnessing this, Oriana felt not a shred of sympathy or pity for her.
Lottie had been so reckless in her diagnosis, so stubborn in her insistence just to oppose her. If she had proceeded with the acupuncture, Billy’s arm could have suffered worse tearing. At his age, and given the limited conditions in Sunrise Village, the treatment process would have been excruciatingly painful and difficult!
On this matter, Oriana could not and would not yield.
Seeing Lottie like this, Chuck shook his head in profound disappointment.
He then turned to Oriana, his gaze filled with even greater approval. “Oriana, you did the right thing. When in doubt, you should voice it, not just follow the crowd.”
His eyes swept over the other intern doctors present. “Even if you’re not specializing in neurology or orthopedics, the most basic medical ethics are essential. You all just stood by, watching them argue heatedly, with no one stepping in to propose a solution?”
The group fell silent, unable to respond.
“Everyone, prepare thorough self–criticisms. You’ll report on them at tomorrow’s meeting!”
They replied dejectedly, “Yes, Director Hill.”
What an undeserved trouble!
This was the first time they’d heard of a volunteer team having to do self–criticism reports. How embarrassing!
They all pinned the blame for this trouble on Lottie. If she hadn’t been so intent on competing with Oriana, would things have escalated to this point, provoking Chuck’s anger?
After reprimanding the group, Chuck didn’t delay further. He personally began treating Billy.

Village conditions were limited, but he could roughly determine that the main injured area was the supraspinatus muscle. He prepared to give an anti–inflammatory injection and prescribed some medication, planning to reassess in three days.
Ideally, villagers with conditions needing further diagnosis would be sent collectively to the county hospital for comprehensive check–ups. After internal discussions yesterday, the village head had indicated that Kai’s charitable mission aimed to facilitate villagers‘ access to care. Therefore, Kai’s team would handle the costs and hospital arrangements; they just needed to await confirmation.
After finishing Billy’s treatment, the team continued to visit three other households.
As the sun began to set, Chuck announced the end of the day’s work. He called Oriana over to briefly discuss the plan for collectively sending villagers to the county for examinations.
“Oriana, this matter will require your coordination with Mr. Sullivan to finalize details. The sooner we can arrange for the villagers to go, the better. Early treatment means early peace of mind.”
Oriana’s expression was earnest. “Understood, Director Hill. I’ll update him shortly.”
Seeing her accept the task without hesitation or bias, Chuck–who had initially worried that Oriana’s reserved nature might make her hesitant to approach Kai–showed a relieved smile. “Good. Go ahead.”
After bidding farewell to Chuck, Oriana headed alone towards the village head’s house.
On the way, she took a moment to video call Micah.
As soon as the call connected, he asked, “Finished work for today?”
Oriana thought for a second and answered honestly, “The medical work is done, but there’s another task.”
She explained that she needed to meet with Kai to coordinate filming the promotional video.
There was a long silence on the other end.
“Micah? Are you still there?”
Oriana called his name a couple of times, then checked the screen. “The connection seems fine?”
She heard his deeply dissatisfied tone. “Honey, that’s not fair.”

The resentment from the other end of the phone was almost palpable, threatening to burst through the screen.
Hearing this, Oriana was both amused and exasperated. But she had a way to handle her man’s restless heart.
“Naturally, it’s different,” she said, a smile playing on her lips. “If I get annoyed, I can ignore Kai. But if I ignore you, what would you do?”
