The dream faded. Oriana’s phantom vanished, and Grant saw the woman before him clearly
once more.
A shadow passed through Grant’s eyes. “Forget the wine.”
“Huh?”
Ignoring the server’s confusion, Grant hung up and strode toward Jonathan.
Jonathan sensed a shadow fall over her, followed by a wave of warmth.
She was in a drowsy haze, blinking her eyes open. The first thing she saw was the man’s tailored suit jacket, and following the line up, a pair of long legs.
Jonathan jolted back to full awareness, scrambling up in a flustered, blushing mess. “Sorry! That was so improper!”
Seeing her so nervous, Grant couldn’t help but let out a low, teasing chuckle. “With such messy sleeping habits, how did I miss that last time?”
Jonathan’s face burned even hotter. She tried to stand, but her legs had gone numb. The sudden movement sent her stumbling forward, still wrapped in his suit jacket, right into Grant’s arms…
Grant’s arms came up, effortlessly catching her and sweeping her into a bridal carry.
Jonathan gasped, startled and apprehensive. “Mr. Holloway?”
Grant didn’t respond, simply carried her straight into his office.
The room was unlit, but the city’s neon glow streamed through the windows, illuminating every corner–and Jonathan’s face, which bore a seventy or eighty percent resemblance to Oriana’s.
For a moment, Grant was lost. Without a word, he cupped Jonathan’s face and kissed her.
Jonathan pushed against him, her face flaming. “Mr. Holloway! I… I have something very important to tell you…”
“Shh. Call me by my name.” His voice was gravelly to the extreme.
Jonathan’s pupils trembled. As if against her will, she swallowed. “Grant.”

A corner of Grant’s mouth lifted in a smile. He covered her lips with his own, pressing her down.
Much later, the storm subsided.
Jonathan lay flushed and limp against Grant, breathing unevenly.
Grant patted her shoulder. “I’ll take you home.”
The haze in Jonathan’s eyes cleared instantly, as if waking from a dream.
The blush drained from her face, replaced by pallor.
“No need. I can get back myself.”
She immediately disentangled herself from the heated embrace, biting her lower lip as she dressed with frantic speed.
Grant frowned. “What’s wrong?”
A self–mocking smile touched Jonathan’s lips. “It was my own wishful thinking, misinterpreting your intentions. I’m clear–headed now.”
Grant’s brows drew together slightly. Thinking it over, he understood.
She was angry with him.
Grant gave a short, humorless laugh. He rose and caught her stubborn, chilly retreating form, turning her halfway back into his arms.
Instinctively, Jonathan tried to pull away, but Grant held her fast.
Feeling humiliated, Jonathan snapped angrily, “Let me go!”
“Such a temper.”
Grant still didn’t take her anger seriously, continuing to tease.
He even seemed inclined to rekindle the earlier intimacy.
To be fair, she had been… enjoyable.
Of course, Jonathan sensed Grant’s physical response. Her face flushed with deeper anger.

her panic, she opened her mouth and bit down hard on the hand he was using to turn her face towards him.
Jonathan bit with all her might, tasting blood.
Grant hissed in pain and shoved her away, looking at the stark, bloody wound on his hand. His eyes turned cold.
He remarked, “Playing hard to get is one thing, but taking it this far loses its charm.”
Jonathan’s shoulders jerked violently. She took a deep, shuddering breath, turned to face him, and met Grant’s distant, icy gaze with a mix of self–mockery and furious shame.
“You misunderstand, Mr. Holloway. I came to see you because I have important information. I never imagined that in your eyes, I was just a woman willingly offering herself for your amusement!”
Seeing Jonathan’s face–so similar to Oriana’s–looking at him with such disappointment and derision, a profound discomfort twisted in Grant’s chest.
His eyes narrowed. “What could possibly be so important that you need to tell me?”
Jonathan’s lips twisted. “Do you know Henley Frost?”
Grant’s expression froze, gradually hardening. “What do you know?”
“In the hospital, I overheard Henley approaching Mr. Caldwell’s assistant, Kieran Duke. He said Mr. Caldwell had hinted and encouraged him to expose all the bad things your wife… Luna did, directly to you. I think the series of troubles you’ve faced recently might all bear Mr. Caldwell’s fingerprints.” Jonathan lowered her voice as she spoke.
