Who could blame Oriana for choosing him?
Lottie didn’t dare even glance at Kai anymore.

Catching a glimpse earlier, she’d seen an expression that seemed ready to tear her apart. A bully by nature, she knew better than to provoke someone truly dangerous.
So she reverted to her pitiful act, letting fresh tears fall. “I’m not trying to force Dr. Sterling to forgive me. It’s just… what she said felt so unfair. I really am sorry!”
Kai let out a cold, derisive snort. “Hah. You’re the one who did wrong. What right do you have to feel ‘unfair‘? Shut it.”
Shouted down, Lottie fell silent again.
Seeing her once–brilliant student so thoroughly diminished, Audrey’s heart softened in the end.
She took a few steps forward and addressed Oriana. “Dr. Sterling, perhaps, for my sake, you could find it in yourself to forgive Lottie this once. I will personally ensure she receives proper guidance and supervision moving forward. I will consider this a personal favor to me. In the future, should you ever need anything, please do not hesitate to ask.”
Audrey was a high–profile hire from abroad, a leading figure in neurology whose academic standing rivaled that of William or Cormac. Moreover, she came from a distinguished medical family; her uncles and other relatives were all eminent specialists in their own fields.
Hearing her offer a personal favor to Oriana made the other doctors collectively draw a sharp breath.
That was an enormous concession…
If it were them, they’d have agreed to forgive in a heartbeat.
After all, they all worked at the same hospital. Even if they refused the apology, what good would it do? Lottie might lose her career, but what would they gain?
Accepting such a favor, however, would be like acquiring a powerful insurance policy for their own careers, opening doors to greater heights.
As they marveled and envied, they naturally assumed Oriana would accept.
Even Audrey thought so.

Lottic, meanwhile, seethed with resentment, feeling like Oriana was stealing resources that rightfully belonged to her.
She had followed Audrey for so long without receiving such preferential support, and now this outsider was swooping in to claim it.
What a lucky bitch!
An unspoken consensus settled that the matter was being resolved. A collective sigh of relief began to form. That was when Oriana delivered an answer that left everyone stunned.
“I’m sorry, Dr. Bishop. I cannot accept that favor
“Wh–what did you say?”
Audrey stared in disbelief.
Even Lottie jerked her head up, her voice sharp. Oriana, you’re turning down a personal favor from Dr. Bishop? Who do you think you are? How arrogant!”
Oriana didn’t meet the shocked gazes turning toward her. She simply stated calmly, “Her remorse isn’t genuine. I do not accept her apology.”
Lottie scrambled to her feet now, her eyes blazing red with fury.
“Fine! I should have known! You hate me, of course you’d never forgive me easily! You planned this all along–to humiliate me, crush me under your heel, and then use Dr. Bishop’s offer to elevate yourself and humiliate me again!”
She looked ready to spit fire. “A vicious, scheming woman like you doesn’t deserve my apology!”
In stark contrast, Oriana remained utterly composed.
“Lottie, did your ‘confession‘ truly account for everything you’ve done?”
The dramatic rise and fall of Lottie’s chest hitched. “What do you mean? Oriana, are you trying to pin more on me now?!”
The question lacked conviction, and she nearly bit her tongue. Her eyes dropped, darting around nervously.
No… she couldn’t know…
It was impossible. How could she?

The photos of her and Kai… okay, those were traced tomy phone. But the rest… those had nothing to do with me! I gave that information to the paparazzo. I handled everything. There’s no way she could knowl
She must be bluffing!
Audrey frowned, a note of doubt entering her voice. “Lottie. Is there something else you haven’t told us?”
“Of course not! I’ve confessed to everything I did!” Lottic insisted, straightening her spine with renewed, false bravado. “I won’t admit to things I didn’t do! Oriana, stop trying to kick me while I’m down!”
