Kieran listened to the reprimand with growing anxiety. “Director Smith, Mr. Caldwell only left Jindiwood because of an unexpected situation. Isn’t there really any other way to remedy this?”
Nelson’s face was stern. “What can be done? If he doesn’t value his own eyes, what can I possibly do?”
He was filled with frustration, and the complaints poured out in a relentless stream.
“It was Mr. Caldwell who came to me asking for treatment in the first place. And it was also him who, halfway through the treatment, stopped even answering my calls. The decision was in his hands all along. What good does it do for me to worry myself sick?”
Kieran’s expression grew increasingly alarmed.
Yet Micah remained as indifferent as ever, as if the subject of their discussion had nothing to do with him.
He lowered his gaze slightly and said in a deep voice, “Since even Director Smith is at a loss, Kieran, let’s go back.”
Kieran gasped softly, “Sir?”
Nelson was taken aback and quickly called out to Micah, who was already turning to leave. “W–Wait! Come back! Good heavens, ! didn’t say there’s absolutely no way. Mr. Caldwell, could you please show a little concern for your own condition?”
He had been overseeing Micah’s treatment for years, pouring immense effort into it. This time, out of sheer frustration, he had seized the chance to scare him into taking things seriously. But he never expected…
Micah simply didn’t care.
Nelson was utterly at a loss with him!
Micah paused his steps and asked tersely, “What’s the remedy?”
Nelson let out a long, weary sigh and looked at him gloomily. “During the period you stopped the medication, Mr. Caldwell, did the episodes of vision loss become more frequent?”
“Yes.”
This was precisely why Micah had come straight to the hospital upon returning to Jindiwood.
Starting from the fourth day after discontinuing the medication, Micah had experienced recurring bouts of blindness every day.
The first episode lasted only five minutes, but by the last one–just yesterday–it had persisted for over three hours.
Fortunately, it happened at night.
He had opened his eyes, intending to get up to use the bathroom, only to find everything plunged into darkness.
Listening to Oriana’s steady breathing beside him, Micah simply lay there with his eyes open, not moving a muscle.
He waited until his sight gradually returned, just as the first light of dawn began to break.
Micah relayed his condition.

Kieran was shocked. “Sir, your condition has worsened so much. Why didn’t you tell me?”
He hadn’t even been aware of this!
Micah replied calmly, “Telling you wouldn’t have changed much. No need for one more person to worry.”
Kieran clenched his fists. “Sir…”

Nelson sighed again. “This medication requires special storage, and it must be processed with a centrifuge before injection. You went off to some remote countryside–even if a miracle worker showed up, there’d be nothing they could do!”
Micah tapped his knuckles lightly on the desk. “State the method.”
Nelson said irritably, “There’s only one way left now: a desperate gamble for a chance at survival!”
Micah’s brow furrowed. “Meaning?”
“The toxins from the medication have already seeped into your optic nerves and brain tissue. Even resuming the treatment won’t help anymore. I believe that within half a month, you’ll enter a state of complete blindness.”
Nelson spoke bluntly, “At that point, Mr. Caldwell, your only option will be direct surgery to reconstruct the optic nervous system.”
“What’s the success rate of the surgery?” Micah asked, his voice steady.
“The success rate… is 45%! Originally, this approach carried extreme risks and would only be considered as a last resort. But given the circumstances, there are no other options left. Who told you to abandon the initial treatment so recklessly?”
As Nelson launched into another lecture, Kieran looked urgently at Micah. “Sir, perhaps we should go back and discuss this with
Mrs. Caldwell.”
Micah cut him off coldly, “She is not to be told about this.”
Kieran was stunned. “I know you don’t want Mrs. Caldwell to worry, but you-”
Micah offered no explanation, only reiterated with emphasis, “I said, she is not to be told.”
Kieran’s eyes darkened, clearly reflecting his concern.
But seeing Micah’s unwavering stance, he knew he couldn’t sway his decision. He forced himself to swallow his words.
Nelson looked between them. “So, regarding this surgery, Mr. Caldwell…”
Micah didn’t answer immediately. “I need time to consider.”
“You–ah!” Nelson exclaimed, exasperated.
He never expected that, even at a time like this, Micah would still treat it so lightly. He was completely out of ideas!
After all these years, he still couldn’t begin to understand what went on in the mind of this unpredictable young master.
Nelson might not comprehend it, but how could Kieran fail to see through it?
Nelson accused Micah of not valuing his own health, but Kieran knew all too well–in Micah’s world, from beginning to end, the only person he had ever truly cared about was Oriana!
