Chapter 554 The Unanswered Calls
Chapter 554 The Unanswered Calls
“Sir, sir?”
Kieran’s voice came faintly, distant and trembling, as if muffled through a thick fog.
Micah took a long time to regain awareness.
Remembering something, he instinctively fumbled for his phone.
During the examination, it hadn’t been with him. He didn’t know if any calls had come in.
His hands had already begun trembling uncontrollably.
Panic–something he had never truly known before.

Kieran and Nelson were both startled, “Sir, what’s wrong? What are you looking for?”
Micah’s unable to calm down, breath ragged.

He was imposing and stern moments ago. Now, his tone faltered, trembling and broken, his speech barely holding together.
“In the missed calls… was there one from her?”
Kieran understood instantly. He opened the call log–and froze.
Micah, leaning close to him, sensed the change. He felt his heart drop like a stone, plunging into a bottomless void.
“She called me.”
It was a statement, not a question.
“Yes. While you were doing the tests. I didn’t manage to put her through.”
Kieran paused, then forced out another brutal truth. “Madam also linked to Chubby’s home feed to see where you were. Chubby’s answer was-

Micah’s throat tightened painfully. “She knows I’m not home.”
Kieran didn’t know about what had happened to Micheal. He hurriedly tried to comfort him, “Sir, don’t worry. I’ll cover up your hospital visit. She won’t.”

me.”
He laughed bitterly, voice tight with regret, “I should’ve realized… One lie leads to endless others. I should have expected this moment…”
“Sir?”
Micah turned slowly toward Nelson.
His gaze was hollow, pupils like dark abysses, unfathomable and utterly lifeless.
“Director Smith.”
Nelson finally snapped back. “Ah–yes, I’m here. You-”
“You asked if I still want treatment.”
Micah’s eyes were empty as he looked beyond him, “I don’t. Forget it.”
Kieran and Nelson both froze, eyes wide, shock and disbelief written all over their faces.
“Mr. Caldwell!”
“Sir!”
After splitting up with Lily, Oriana returned to the hospital to rest.
William had an afternoon meeting at another hospital, so she could take a nap in his office.
Resting her arms on the desk, Oriana closed her eyes. All she could see was Micah from the surveillance footage–cold, unfamiliar.
Nothing like the gentle husband who stayed by her side day and night.
She knew video manipulation wasn’t difficult these days–and Grant was an expert.
Yet her instincts told her it was real.
That was the real Micah. A man she didn’t know.
Lost in thought, she finally noticed her phone ringing in the drawer.
