Zara crossed her arms and shot back, “Yeah, you pissed me off. And Micah pissed off Oriana. Both of you are jerks!”
After yelling, while Kenny was still stunned, she shoved him toward the door. “Get out. I don’t want to see you at all!”
“No.”
Kenny held his ground.
He didn’t care that Zara insulted him, but he wouldn’t let her talk trash about Micah.
Besides, Micah and Oriana were clearly head over heels for each other. Kenny couldn’t understand why Oriana would badmouth Micah.
Every time Micah left, Oriana looked like she was fading away. A chill ran through Kenny’s heart. He grabbed Zara’s hand, pressed firmly at her waist, and stepped back into the room. He managed to squeeze inside and hooked his foot to pull the door shut.
Zara failed to chase Micah out, while Micah had shut the door tight.
Before Zara could roar in anger again, Kenny quickly warned, “No yelling. Do you want to call Grandpa and my parents here? So they can ask Oriana what’s going on with Micah?”
That was the last thing Zara wanted. Her eyes widened. “No way. They can’t find out. You’re all family- they’ll definitely side with Micah and pressure Oriana to understand him!”
“You’re right.”
Kenny twisted his wrist. “Can you let go now?”
Zara angrily shrugged him off, her tone dripping with disdain. “Like I’d want to touch you.”
Kenny’s mouth twitched. He took a deep breath and asked seriously, “So what exactly are you fighting about?”
“You actually have the nerve to ask? What, are you trying to be the peacemaker too?”
Zara crushed his hopes. “It’s useless! Micah’s a big liar. He faked being blind to trick Oriana into marrying him! That’s beyond messed up.”
Kenny’s breath caught sharply. Without thinking, he blurted, “She knows?”
Zara jumped up immediately. “Oh, so you’ve known all along! You’re all in on it, deceiving us! Jerks!”
From the phone, Oriana heard Kenny’s words clearly, her heart sinking even lower.
A tangled, indescribable bitterness spread through her chest.

Kenny covered his mouth, but it was too late. Flustered, he hurried to explain, “No, Micah didn’t lie to her. Micah really is sick. His eyes really have a problem!”
Zara snapped, “He clearly can see just fine. What kind of problem could he have?”
“I–I can’t say.”
Micah hadn’t told Oriana about this.
If Kenny said it outright, Micah might kill him!
While Kenny stammered, Zara sneered, “You’re too nervous to come up with a good excuse, huh?”
She waved dismissively. “Go talk to Micah yourself. I’m curious what lame excuse you’ll come up with. Either way, neither Oriana nor I trusts you anymore. Right, Oriana?”
Zara spoke straight into the phone.
The call was still connected. Oriana had to hear everything.
She said nothing.
Clearly, Oriana felt the same way; she wouldn’t trust Micah, either.
No. Micah would go crazy!
Instinctively, terror flashed in Kenny’s eyes.
“No, Micah really has his reasons. At least give him a chance to explain, right?”
“Fine, he has his reasons. But he’s been lying to Oriana for so long, playing with her feelings. No wonder Micah said from the start that after two years of marriage, they’d split. So that was his plan all along!”
“That’s not true. Micah is definitely not heartless!”
Zara’s words struck Kenny like a knife in the chest. He’d always admired Micah, looked up to him as a role model. He wouldn’t let anyone misunderstand or slander him.
Kenny clenched his fists tightly, his breath quickening. After a struggle, he decided to confess,
“Micah’s illness is unusual. It’s a mental disorder that affects his physical body. When he was a child, doctors were certain his eyes and brain would slowly deteriorate until they completely failed.
“When Micah was young, he was withdrawn and refused treatment. The illness was suppressed, but no one knew when it would flare up. One thing was certain. Every day he lived, he was steadily wearing down his body. He’s not totally blind, but his vision is already half gone.”
