Jonathan had just lifted herself up and caught sight of Grant’s phone screen. Her lips twitched sharply.
This idiot–still obsessing over Oriana at a time like this?
She rolled her eyes, but then sighed inwardly.
If Grant ever let go of his fixation on Oriana, what would that mean for her? After all, she was Oriana’s substitute.
“A good thing? Yeah, I guess you could call it that.”
Grant casually tossed his phone onto the table, a wider smile spreading across his lips. “They’re fighting. Micah’s in big trouble this time.”
Jonathan tilted her head, leaning on his chest with a deliberately sour tone. “I thought you only cared about Ms. Sterling.”
?
No sooner had she finished than Grant lifted her chin.
“What, you jealous?”
“Yeah, I am jealous.”
Jonathan lowered her eyes, forcing a brave smile. “You love Ms. Sterling deeply. What right do I have to say any of this?”
Looking at her face, Grant could almost picture Oriana, heartbroken and hiding away, crying quietly–and that thought filled him with satisfaction.
He grabbed the back of Jonathan’s neck, pulling her fiercely into his arms, and covered her mouth with a harsh kiss.
Jonathan’s eyes widened, trying to pull away. “Stop.”
Grant didn’t let go of her resisting hands, his gaze sharp and ruthless. “Rejecting me again? You’re not on your period. Why have you been pushing me away these past few days? Who are you saving yourself for?”
“How could you think that of me?”
Tears welled instantly in Jonathan’s eyes. Vulnerable and helpless, she trembled in his embrace, delicate as
a rose.
“Do you even know who my body and heart belong to?”
Her crying only irritated Grant more. “Then what do you mean? Tell me!”
She hesitated, stammering. “I–I’m just scared.
Grant narrowed his eyes suspiciously. “Scared of what? Who’s threatening you?”

Instinctively, Grant thought of Luna and Bramwell.
“It’s not that. It’s because…”
Her voice trailed off again.

Before Grant completely lost patience, a shy, sweet smile appeared at the corner of her lips. She slowly lowered her head, both hands unconsciously resting over her belly.
When he saw that, Grant’s whole body jolted. “You’re pregnant?”
“Seems so.”
Jonathan said, “My period is late this month. A couple of days ago, I took a pregnancy test myself—it was faintly positive. I want to wait a few weeks and test again to be sure.”
She slowly lifted her head, her watery eyes reflecting Grant’s stunned expression. She blushed, speaking cautiously. “Mr. Holloway, I might be a mom. I might finally have family.”
Grant finally recovered from his shock.
He burst into laughter and pulled Jonathan tightly into his arms.
“That’s amazing! I’m going to be a dad! You’re carrying our child?!”
At first, Grant didn’t hold back his strength. Hearing her wince, he immediately apologized and loosened his grip.
“Did I hurt you?”
“It’s okay.” Jonathan frowned slightly, shaking her head softly. “It’s not confirmed yet. I need to go to the hospital for a proper check.”
“You’re a nurse. It’s your specialty. You can’t be wrong!”
“Counting back, it should be from that night at the Velvet Midnight.”
Jonathan nodded shyly. “Yes, it should be.”
She had been trying to figure out how to get pregnant to secure her place–never expecting to succeed so quickly.
Even God seemed to be helping her.
Grant closed his eyes and raised his hand, gently tracing the contours of her face with his fingertip on her forehead–a familiar touch etched deep into his heart.
He had already begun imagining the future.
“Our child will be beautiful, with your eyes and features.”

Jonathan understood the meaning behind his words.
Out of his sight, a cold smile crept across her lips, but she still sweetly replied, “I hope the baby looks more like you, Mr. Holloway.”
Grant laughed aloud, opening his eyes to look at her playfully. “You think I’m that good–looking? You must really like me.”
