**TITLE: He Returned to Break and Own Me and for His Queen**
**Chapter 70: The Unmasking**
“Please, don’t… just don’t look at me. I must be the ugliest sight right now… Urk!” Luna’s voice trembled as she fought against the rising tide of nausea that threatened to overwhelm her. The tears that streamed down her cheeks were genuine, a visceral response to the turmoil within her.
“It’s alright, Luna. Really, it is,” Leo said, his tone soothing yet firm. “The doctor assured me that your poisoning is mild. You’ve only suffered some superficial skin irritation on your face. With the ointment, you’ll be back to your old self in no time.” He had taken the time to personally assess her condition, ensuring that it was nothing to be alarmed about.
“R–really?” Luna asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Teardrops clung precariously to her lashes, poised to fall in a manner that would tug at anyone’s heartstrings.
“Absolutely, Luna. There’s no need to worry. Leo is incredibly skilled. A minor issue like this is nothing for him,” James interjected quickly, eager to provide her with the comfort she so desperately needed. “And thankfully, the oleanders on campus have been genetically modified over generations. Their toxicity is significantly lower than the original plants. Otherwise, this could have been a much more serious situation!” He spoke with a fervor that betrayed his concern for her well-being.
“But seriously,” James continued, his voice rising with indignation, “that Oriana is pure venom! Luna was only trying to be kind by delivering her the application form, and what does she do? She turns around and tries to disfigure her! How can someone so cold-hearted even exist, let alone share the same university as us?” His fists clenched at his sides, the anger boiling within him.
“What application form? I wasn’t aware of this.”
The voice that interrupted them was icy and dripping with sarcasm.
A shiver ran down Luna’s spine as she felt the familiar chill of dread. Leo and James turned in unison, their gazes locking onto Oriana, whose mocking expression sent a wave of tension through the room.
That haughty, superior attitude again, James fumed, his past humiliations resurfacing and merging with his current rage. “Stop pretending! Luna was more than generous to bring you an application form for the MDT team, and you repay her by trying to ruin her face with oleander? How dare you!”
“Luna even asked us not to make things difficult for you, but I’m drawing the line right here! Oriana, as long as I’m around, don’t even think about trying to join the MDT team!” His voice was fierce, a protective growl that filled the air with tension.
The corner of Oriana’s mouth twitched, a smirk playing on her lips. “Psycho.”
“Wh–what did you just call me?” James’s heart raced as he struggled to comprehend her dismissive retort. His fierce warning had been met with nothing more than a flippant remark, igniting his fury even further.
“So you’re Oriana,” Leo said, scrutinizing the woman standing before him. A flicker of recognition danced at the edges of his mind, but he quickly pushed it aside, focusing instead on the confrontation.
A cold sweat trickled down Luna’s back. She subtly clenched her fists, her heart pounding in her chest as she feared that either Oriana or Leo might inadvertently reveal the truth that could unravel her carefully woven scheme.
Oriana gently pulled Noah back, her gaze locking onto the tear-streaked face of Luna. “Since you admit that it’s your fault, you will take responsibility. The medical fees and emotional distress for Noah… One hundred thousand. You will pay it.”
“One hundred thousand? For this stinky old rag-and-bone man? That’s robbery! Ah—” James’s protest was abruptly cut short as Noah tightened his grip, forcing a yelp of surrender from him.
Noah beamed, clearly pleased. One hundred thousand! In Oriana’s eyes, he was worth that much? Wonderful!
From their hidden positions, the ever-watchful butler and bodyguards collectively facepalmed.
Sir, get a grip! It’s one hundred thousand! You’re worth billions! Why are you excited about one hundred thousand?!
“Oriana, don’t push your luck,” Leo shot back coldly. “You’re merely an external teaching assistant. You have no authority to make decisions regarding our institute’s affairs.”
“Fine. If you refuse to accept this compensation, let the university handle it officially. Noah remembers the sequence of events clearly. There’s surveillance footage along the path, and students from the Traditional Medicine Department witnessed it…” Oriana’s lips curved into a sly smile. “Let the school investigate thoroughly and see who is truly at fault!”
