Lucian chuckled, turning his head to let his gaze rest on Seraphina. "I texted you before I left the office to say we were eating out tonight. Did you forget?"
She actually had forgotten.
With everything weighing heavily on her mind these past few days, she couldn't keep track of those minor details.
Seraphina lowered her eyes, glancing down at her loungewear, and turned toward the bedroom. "I'll go change."
The lights in the walk-in closet flickered on.
She stood before the row of hanging dresses, trailing her fingertips across the fabrics before finally pulling out a delicate black slip dress.
She layered it with a sheer, lightweight cardigan—enough to keep the evening chill at bay without looking like she was trying too hard.
Slipping into a pair of flat, rhinestone-embellished loafers, she casually pinned her hair back with a clip, exposing the slender, graceful line of her neck.
When she emerged, Lucian was leaning against the doorframe waiting for her, looking down at his phone.
Hearing her footsteps, he looked up and his gaze locked onto her.
Seraphina felt slightly self-conscious under his intense stare, the tips of her ears warming.
"Don't look at me like that."
From the stroller nearby, Little Bean waved his chubby little fists. "Wow, Mommy looks so pretty! Daddy's completely starstruck. He can't even walk!"
Seraphina mentally shot back, "Keep it down, you."
Little Bean babbled stubbornly. "Mommy, I'm just telling the truth!"
Lucian glanced up and shot a pointed look at Susan, who was standing nearby.
Catching the hint immediately, Susan picked up the baby and turned toward the nursery.
"Hey, hey, hey! Where is Susan taking me? Mommy, Mommy..."
Little Bean was still complaining indignantly as his tiny silhouette disappeared around the corner of the hallway.
Seraphina instinctively turned her head to look after them.
But the moment she did, a shadow fell over her.
Lucian had closed the distance without her noticing, completely blocking her line of sight.
When she looked up, she fell right into his deep, smoldering gaze.
He reached out, his palm settling firmly on her waist.
Even through the sheer fabric of her cardigan, the heat from his hand was staggering.
