"Is she really just your ex-girlfriend?"
Sebastian paused for a fraction of a second before pulling Yolanda securely into his arms. "Yolanda, you are the only one in my heart."
Yolanda didn't struggle, but she tipped her chin up to look at him. "Look me in the eyes and say it."
Sebastian lowered his gaze to meet hers, enunciating every word. "You are the only one in my heart, Yolanda."
Yolanda stared at him for a few agonizing seconds before a sudden smile broke across her face.
She reached up, gently smoothing out his slightly rumpled collar. "Sebastian, I'm only giving you one last chance."
Sebastian's Adam's apple bobbed. "I know."
Yolanda dropped her hand and turned toward the exit. "Let's go."
Watching her walk away, Sebastian stepped forward and followed.
...
Lucian shielded Seraphina from the wind all the way to the car.
The engine purred to life.
Seraphina pulled the trench coat tighter around her shoulders, the fabric still radiating Lucian's body heat.
Steering with one hand, Lucian reached over with the other to give her hand a reassuring squeeze. "Cold?"
"I'm fine."
The car took a turn at the intersection, heading directly toward the west side of the city.
Seraphina watched the glowing streetlights blur past the window. "Are we not going home?"
"I'm taking you somewhere," Lucian replied softly.
Half an hour later, the car pulled up outside a massive, empty construction site.
The metal barricades were prominently stamped with the Starlight Developments logo.
Seraphina pushed her door open and stepped out.
Finding her footing, she looked around the desolate area. "This is..."
Lucian got out from the driver's side, walking over to wrap a warm arm around her shoulders.
He leaned in close, speaking right against her ear. "This is the plot of land you told me to bid on. Remember?"
Seraphina turned to look at him. "I remember."
It had all been thanks to Little Bean.
