Max

While the royal palace was constructed with the strongest of building materials in the world, punching the wall in front of me would’ve resulted in severe damage as I stood under the shower. I should’ve already stepped out since I had been there for quite some time, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it when Addison was the only thing on my mind.

On one hand, I was mad at her for disrespecting my father, the Lycan King right in my face but on the other hand, I was turned on by that moment in the woods. It was the way she didn’t want me close but needed me to do it. It was the way I felt when I towered over her while looking down at her lips.

As her words once again echoed in my mind for me to touch her, I growled, stretching my neck a few times while keeping my eyes shut and then came the arousing sensation when I finally touched her. I could tell I was causing her pain, yet that was the one time I was the most aroused by her. Even Koa felt the same as I did.

Finally stepping out of the shower, I wrapped a towel around my lower half, the fabric not laying flat in the front from the obvious bulge, but it didn’t matter because I was alone.

I had to keep my mind occupied with everything else just so I wouldn’t think about all the things I wanted to do to her.

After finally getting dressed, I called for Tyler, who immediately joined me in my bedroom as he was eager to find out what had happened since he knew that I had left to meet Addison.

“I

guess

she’s mad at you, huh?” he asked, taking a seat on my sofa.

I sat beside him, facing the wall on the other side. “Of course she is, but I’d be feeling the same way had I been in her shoes.”

“Did you apologize?” He leaned towards me with curiosity.

“No.”

Returning to his previous position, he nodded and said. “Good.”

“Even if a small part of me would’ve wanted to apologize in the future, it’s not happening after the way she disrespected our father.”

“What?” His eyes began to glow, his tone threatening as he rose to his feet.

I followed suit, trying to calm him down. “Take it easy. Don’t forget about her father’s history with the Lycan King.”

“She still had no right to disrespect her king!”

“You should’ve heard what she said when I told her that.”

“What did she say?”

“That she’s not from here.”

He scoffed, crossing his arms. “And that makes it okay? I could have her punished and expelled from the

games s-”

“Hey, there’s no need for that.”

“But-”

“Enough.”

He instantly went silent, putting his glowing eyes away.

Placing my hand on his shoulder to further calm him down, I said, “Even if I planned on doing the same thing to Addison, it would count as unfair treatment during the current games. Everyone should be given a chance to participate without any interference.”

He sighed. “Then she’s lucky she really doesn’t serve our king.” He gritted his teeth. “I’m still not over the opening ceremony and how our father said nothing even after he saw her. I wonder what he was thinking. Do you think he’s waiting for the right moment to strike?”

“It could be. That’s why he has guards closely watching her family under Jeffery’s supervision. I can only hope that when he finally decides to strike, it won’t be with the intention to kill them.”

“Isn’t it crazy how just a few weeks ago, it was always expected that someone would die at the hands of our father?”

“Ever since he spared Murphy, I now have hope that it won’t be the case, especially when it comes to the Hunters. The worst part is if it were to come to that, I wouldn’t be able to interfere. It would just give it away that I feel something for Addison.”

“If you plan on seeing her again while they’re at the Academy of Warriors, you need to find a new way of doing it because it wasn’t easy covering for you. Imagine if our parents knew where you actually were. You wouldn’t be so comfortable right now.”

I patted him on the back with a chuckle. “Thanks for always having my back. One thing is for sure, I’m definitely seeing Addison again. It turns out that she found a way to figure out what’s going on between us with the help of a witch.”

His eyes widened. “A witch? How did she get one of those? I thought we were the only ones.”

“I guess not, but I’m so eager to find out what this is.”

“Why?”

“It’s the only way I’ll be at ease.” I closed my eyes, trying not to think about the excitement when I had touched her.

With my jaw dropped, I crouched down and tried so hard not to pull my hair, processing what Lyra had just

said to me.

Before she told me the meaning behind my reaction to Max everytime he was close, he was just a guy I couldn’t get off my mind, but at that moment, I realized just how much I needed him to reach my full potential.

“I can’t believe this is real,” I said to her, shock still evident in my tone.

“You better believe it. Max is destined to be by your side,” she said.

I looked up at her, shaking my head. “You know, when you say it like that, you really make it sound like he’s my mate or something.”

“He could be. We don’t know that yet, but one thing is for sure, he’s an extremely important factor in breaking the seal so you can master the elements. And he’s not just anyone, he’s the lycan prince.”

“So is Tyler.”

“And yet, there was no reaction. That already says a lot. Air is first and right at the surface of your abilities, which explains the strong winds blowing around you and Max. Had he never made physical contact until now, the seal wouldn’t be in the state it’s currently in.”

“But it all makes me unstable,” I reminded her.

She nodded in agreement. “I’m aware of that. It happens because breaking the seal isn’t so easy and could be dangerous. Each time he touched you, the seal on your powers reacted to his presence. Saga has also grown so powerful that Koa’s presence is a good thing. You need to stay close to Max. His energy is vital to your development.”

I scoffed, rising to my feet as I paced a few times. “How am I supposed to stay close to him when I can’t be near him?”

“That’s now a thing of the past. Here,” she said, wrapping a bracelet that appeared out of thin air around my wrist. “With this, you can get as close as you want and there won’t be the slightest discomfort.”

My eyes narrowed as I kept my eyes on the bracelet. “Even when he touches me?”

“Exactly, but keep in mind that this should still be kept a secret. We don’t know who else could be listening.”

“Of course. It’ll still be a secret.” I huffed, eager to test out the bracelet the next time I would see Max.

“It’s time to go. You better get some sleep because soon, you’ll be mastering your first element, air.”
