Chapter 30
Chapter 30
Addison
Even after the instant teleportation with Lyra’s help, I still couldn’t appear right in my shared room, just in case the others were around. The last thing I needed was to draw attention to myself, which was why I appeared a few feet away from the building.
As I slowly made my way back so I could get some rest, I placed a finger on my lips, wondering what that look in Max’s eyes was. There was a moment when it felt like he was about to kiss me as he got closer and the thought of it made my heart race.
Only a few seconds after I began thinking about what that would’ve been like, I firmly shook my head so I wouldn’t have such thoughts about someone who defends his father’s ruthless orders. How could he see nothing wrong with that?
This should’ve been a time for me to completely forget about him since he lied to me, but now I need him more than ever.
“Hey, Saga, are you there?” I asked her.
“I’m always here!”
“I guess we really need Koa.”
“From what I remember, he’s quite arrogant and I wonder how he’ll react to this.”
“Obviously all arrogant.” I chuckled. “I’m just glad I no longer have to lie to Max about this. It’s important that he knows the truth. I can’t wait to see him again and see what happens when we get close.”
I smiled, looking down at the bracelet.
Just as I got to the door to my room, Phoebe and Sally exclaimed, “No way!”
I still wondered why they were up so late at night. I could also sense that Ruby was with them.
As soon as I walked in, I spotted Phoebe and Sally sitting beside Ruby on her bed, swooning over her while she smirked with her arms crossed.
“You’re so lucky, Ruby!” Phoebe said to her, then looked over at me. “Guess what? Ruby’s been invited to the royal palace and will dine with Max and Tyler!”
I stopped in my tracks, subtly clenching my jaw. “Good to know.”
“Of course it’s good to know,” Ruby rolled her eyes at me. “You’ll only ever hear about such things since you can’t be invited. You’re nobody, unlike my father, who is close to the Lycan King. You were like a leech with Max and Tyler but look at what’s going on now. They obviously won’t acknowledge you anymore. It obviously sucks to be you.”
I sighed, taking off my shoes while trying to stay calm. “Enjoy that dinner.”

“You bet I will!”
“Cool.” I said, putting my legs on the bed and getting in a sleeping position.
“It’ll be so grand and as an invited guest, I get to establish new relationships with them. Did you hear that, Hunter?” She gloated to me.
“Whatever makes you happy. I’m going to sleep now.”
And with that, I faced the other side, making her chuckle in disbelief at how I ignored her.
While I was a little jealous, I had more important things on my mind. I was soon going to be able to manipulate air and I couldn’t wait.
Lyra was absolutely right, coming to compete at the Academy of Warriors brought with it fierce competition and my school’s contestants quickly narrowed down to just five as the others were eliminated.
Most of the opponents carried themselves like they were already warriors who served the Lycan King. It also worked in their favor that their parents were warriors in their respective packs.
I had seen what they had done so far to everyone they had gone up against during combat, and I was ready for my turn, which involved close combat and was coming up right after Ruby’s wall climbing. It seemed she got the easier part to play and I hoped that if she couldn’t at least beat me in close combat, she’d defeat Lisa, her opponent, in their round.
With both of them standing in front of a towering wall, the whistle blew and they began to climb, everyone in the audience cheering for either of them. Knocking the opponent off the wall using whatever means was allowed, but I wondered when either of them would do that as they were both focused on climbing the wall.
Ruby couldn’t keep up with Lisa, leaving her behind and I could tell just how frustrated she was. She already hated losing and doing so in the presence of thousands would only be humiliating.
Just as Lisa was getting closer to the top, Ruby picked up her pace, then leaped for Lisa’s foot, grabbed onto it and pulled as hard as she could. At that moment, her opponent lost her grip as she was mercilessly tossed to the ground.
It wasn’t without any consequences for Ruby as she also lost control of how high she had already climbed, but not even sliding down was going to stop her as she now had no competition.
With a smirk, she continued to climb with ease, the crowd a mix of cheers and boos as she advanced until she victoriously stood on top of the building, her breath heavy as she flipped her hair with a hand on her hip.
Phoebe and Sally loudly cheered for her and I could only sigh with relief that we still had the same number of
contestants on our team.
As she returned to her seat to join us, she smirked at me and whispered, “Let’s see you do better than that.”
I raised my eyebrows, leaning in as I whispered, “My round is close combat and you know just how good I am, don’t you?”

Her smug expression faded as she leaned back, facing the other side to speak to those congratulating her.
As my name was announced for me to get in the ring, the crowd was once again a mix of cheers and boos depending on who they were supporting. My opponent was a girl named Drina and not only was she taller, but she also had a muscular build.
As she stretched her neck while looking down at me, she said, “Just so you know, this isn’t the part where you get to walk away victorious like Ruby just did.”
“Actually, that’s exactly what’s about to happen,” I said, balling my hands into fists as I changed my stance.
It seemed she found that amusing as she scoffed, looking at me from head to toe. “With that form, you’re definitely about to be humiliated.”
Right before the whistle blew, Lyra reached out to me. “Be careful. Drina’s uncle is part of the elite team of warriors. She obviously has excellent maneuvers and tricks up her sleeve. She definitely won’t be an easy one.”
Lyra’s warning made one other thing clear. Even if I had secretly trained for years, I had never fought anyone as good as Drina since Ruby didn’t count. It was going to be my first real fight.
