Mysterious mate to the lycan prince (Addison and Max) novel Chapter 31

Chapter 31

Chapter 31

Addison

Drina towered over me as she cracked her knuckles and while she was already confident, the cheers from the crowd only added to it.

Thanks to Lyra’s heads-up, it was already clear to me that Drina’s family’s elite military training had prepared her for moments like this. I could tell even by her stance that she was ready to defeat me.

Given the difference in our size, I knew I had to be smart to take her down…

The two of us circled each other, our eyes locked in a fierce stare. I glanced at my brothers and aunt in the crowd for a second and they were mouthing to me that I could do this. It was the same thing when I glanced

at Gina.

Even my teammates seemed to cheer for me except Ruby, who leaned back, crossed her arms and smirked at me. It didn’t matter to her that I had to win as long as I was humiliated.

My small distraction came at a cost when Drina took the first swing, but I still sensed it right before her fist landed on my face. I dodged with ease, my werewolf reflexes lightning-fast and the crowd went wild with cheers and surprise.

Despite the dodge, Drina was only getting started with me and didn’t miss a beat. She followed up with a series of swift kicks, each one aimed at my stomach so she’d kick me out of the boundary of the ring.

While I blocked the first two and made myself believe I became familiar with her fighting style, the third one caught me off guard and I stumbled backward.

The crowd went wild again and louder this time.

Drina pressed her advantage, grabbing onto my wrists while on the edge of the ring boundary.

“See? I told you that you’re no match for me.” She sneered, her eyes blazing with victory.

As she pressed harder against me, it was so she could throw me out of the boundary. I could feel just how strong she was but she was mistaken about one thing. I was nothing like what she thought I was. With a fierce growl, I broke free from her grasp on my wrists, sending her stumbling backward.

Once again, the crowd went wild, a mix of shock, cheers and boos.

Even Drina took a second to pull herself together as she seemed to wonder how I had managed to break free when I was on the verge of defeat.

While keeping my true strength subtle, I charged at her, my werewolf strength propelling me forward. I slammed into her with a force that sent us both crashing to the ground.

I could hear her panicked breathing and just like me, she wasn’t there to lose and for her, a lot was expected considering who her uncle was and how he had trained her.

Her skills kicked in and she quickly rolled onto her back using her legs to try and pin me down, but I swiftly

dodged each attempt as I constantly weaved with incredible speed.

Up until that point, not once had I landed a punch, so I adjusted my strength and my fists went flying, Drina still so much in shock that she struggled to block. She was still determined but unlike at the beginning, when she had the upper hand, there was now a faint glimmer of fear in her eyes.

It seemed that she was just the type of opponent I needed as the more we fought on, the more my senses were heightened, allowing me to anticipate her every move. Not once had I ever experienced something like that and never in a million years would Ruby have brought out that side of me.

Drina’s punches slowed down, her kicks also less precise after the amount of times I evaded them.

There was no point in dragging that out any longer as it was obvious to me that I had just unlocked a new skill while still in human form.

It was for this reason that I decided to end it, so I lifted her and growled, hurling her out of the ring and she landed face first.

The whole crowd went silent for a month until after the whistle blew.

“Blackbolt High’s Addison Hunter wins!”

The place erupted in cheers, even those who seemed to boo, standing on their feet for a round of applause.

My family and Gina cheered the loudest and I chuckled, bowing my head as I was about to exit the ring.

I then noticed Drina still on the ground in the same position she landed, looking into the crowd at a specific section. I looked over and it was her family, who were so disappointed that they couldn’t even hide it.

This wasn’t meant to be anything serious. It wasn’t like we were at war or anything like that, so I stepped out of the ring, making my way to Drina.

I stopped right in front of her and crouched down, holding out my hand.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

She rolled her eyes but smiled as she reached for my hand. “Not a scratch.”

She rose to her feet, her grip tightening on my hand as she nodded while looking down at me.

“For someone smaller in frame compared to me, you’re definitely a fighter. How the fuck were you stronger than me?”

I sighed. “Well, let’s just say I had a good night’s sleep.”

She playfully scoffed. “Bullshit. You did great.”

“You too.”

“Don’t sugarcoat it.” She shook her head. “My family’s embarrassed. So am I.”

“I mean it when I say you did great,” I assured her. “Thanks for bringing out the best in me.

She tilted her head, a little surprised. “Do you really mean that?”

“Of course. I went up against the best. How could I not benefit from it?”

She chuckled. “You know, I surprisingly feel better about all this. At least it wasn’t all for nothing. I have to point out something. At one point, it felt like you pushed me using the air.

“What?” My eyes widened like I had no idea what she was talking about. “I think you were just imagining things.”

“You’re right.” She nodded in agreement. “I mean how could something like that possibly happen?”

As we carried on about just how impossible it was, I glanced at Ruby, who still had her arms crossed but seemed so bitter and envious. I could hear it. Everyone was talking about my victory.

Suddenly, I sensed Drina’s heart begin to race so I looked at her, wondering what was going on but it was soon clear when I faced the direction in which she had her gaze fixed. Her family was approaching us, all of them.

Lyra then reached out to me at that moment. “You did great! Just in case you’re wondering who’s the uncle among them, it’s the one in a grey suit!”

They stopped right in front of us, Drina’s uncle walking past her parents so he’d be the first to speak.

“That was excellent,” he said. “I would have obviously loved for my niece to win, but you can’t always get everything because only the best of the best will advance. Isn’t that right?”

He looked back at the rest of the family and they seemed to nod in agreement. Though they smiled, I could still see the disappointment written all over their faces. Who wouldn’t want to advance?

“You’re obviously all disappointed as you were rooting for Drina to win but this wasn’t all for nothing, at least for me. I’ve been training for a long time and not once have I ever had a worthy opponent. She brought out something in me today that I didn’t know existed. Please keep that in mind.”

They all exchanged glances, obviously speaking to each other using their mind link.

I looked over at Drina and her eyes were wide open as her heart continued to race. Then, it slowed down, returning to normal and she sighed with relief. My job there was done, so I excused myself, certain that even if she was going to be scolded, it wouldn’t be as awful as it initially would’ve been.

I made my way to my teammates and they ran to me, surrounding me while praising my performance. Standing a few feet away from us was Ruby, who sulked and rolled her eyes.

Dylan then called out to me using the mind link and I looked in a certain direction, spotting him, Cole, Aunt Nora and Gina excitedly waiting for me.

I excused myself from my teammates, having to walk past Ruby on my way to my family and friend.

I then stopped in my tracks when she said. “So what if you emerged victorious? I did, too, but why does it seem that the reaction is different to you?”

HEY

“Isn’t it obvious? Are you that slow? Your round was nothing but wall climbing. Do you think it deserves the same recognition as close combat? You had the easy way out for a reason.”

She kicked the air with a grunt. “Move along, bitch!”

I chuckled, shaking my head as I proceeded to my family and friend.

Gina couldn’t contain her excitement as she was the first to run to me and hug me.

“That was fucking awesome!” She squealed. “Ruby wished she had even an ounce of your combat skills. Just look at her, still acting all envious!”

My brothers and aunt finally caught up, equally congratulating me.

“If only your parents were here,” aunt Nora said, resting her hand on my shoulder.

“I still don’t understand why they can’t be here,” Gina chimed in, her expression curious.

“It’s really complicated,” I said to her.

“Of course. I see it’s one of your secrets.” She held up the palms of her hands in defeat.

Just as Dylan and Cole brought up my performance again, I received a short message from Max.

“Impressive.”

I stepped away from the others, eager to test out the bracelet and tell him the truth.

“Thanks. I need to see you.”

“I was going to mention that, but you beat me to it. Meet me right now where we met last time.”

It took me around ten minutes to excuse myself but I finally made my way to the bathroom and entered a stall.

Lyra appeared to me, held my hand and in the blink of an eye, I was in a different location and without her.

Just as I picked up Max’s scent, he spoke from behind me.

“You made it.” His voice was almost a whisper.

“Yeah,” I turned around to meet his gaze, remembering how our lips almost touched last time.

Trying to block it out, I looked to the side and said. “How did you watch my fight?”

“I was right there. You just couldn’t see or detect me. You were so amazing that even the warriors of this kingdom now have their eyes on you.”

“Honestly, I’m not interested.” I crossed my arms.

“If that’s the case, why are you even here?” He towered over me.

Chapter 31

“I just want to get stronger. Wait.” I furrowed my eyebrows, realizing something important.
