“You’re so close yet I feel no discomfort,” I said, glancing at his chest.

He might’ve been in royal attire, but I still had a clear image in my mind of what he looked like when in casual clothing like the rest of us.

It was only when he replied that I snapped out of it.

“Now that you’ve mentioned it, you’re absolutely right.”

“It’s funny that you didn’t notice either,” I pointed out, a nervous chuckle escaping my lips.

“How could I notice when I was already so comfortable getting this close?”

He subtly licked his lip, the sight of that already drawing me in.

Despite the initial plan being to test out just how close we could get thanks to Lyra, I didn’t expect there to be a neediness in my voice as I told him.

“Can you get closer?”

Though he was a little surprised, he smirked at me. “With pleasure.”

He took a step closer, his chest almost brushing against mine.

“Hmm,” he said quietly. “This is interesting. I wonder what will happen if I touch you.”

My heart skipped a beat and I boldly said, “Do it.”

Our eyes locked as he brought his hands forward but as soon as he placed them on the sides of my arms, I instantly closed my eyes for a few seconds as my breath hitched.

“This is really interesting,” he said, his tone filled with amusement and a hint of seduction. “You’re so calm, but your heart is racing.”

“I could say the same about you.” I opened my eyes, boldly staring right into his.

“How is this finally possible?” he asked, not breaking eye contact.

“It’s because of the bracelet.”

“What bracelet?” His eyes narrowed, yet still locked on mine.

I raised my hand so he could see my wrist.

He pulled on the bracelet, then gently held onto my wrist. “This one, right here?”

I exhaled sharply then swallowed hard, feeling his breath getting warmer as he moved his face even closer. The primal urge within him grew stronger and I could tell he was doing everything in his power to control it.

“This changes things,” he said.

“What do you mean?”

I looked to the side as I could no longer handle seeing the desire in his eyes, but he placed his fingers at the base of my chin.

“Look at me. Are you scared?” He teased me.

I forced a chuckle. “Why would I be scared?”

“Then look at me.”

Mustering the courage, I looked back at him, his gorgeous lips almost brushing against mine.

“Addison, do you know how long I’ve wanted to do this? To get closer, touch you like this and just…”

He trailed off, closing his eyes and tilting his head.

I could feel it coming and I closed my eyes but the next second, I took a step back.

“There’s something I need to tell you,” I said, my breath heavy as I placed a hand on my chest.

I knew I had just ruined the moment as he sighed while subtly shaking his head, but during that moment, it needed to be done.

“What is it?” he asked, his tone and expression laced with a little bit of irritation.

“You need to know why all the strange stuff has been happening between us.”

He clenched his jaw in anger but fuck, it only made him more attractive to me.

“Fine, let’s hear it.” He towered over me, his expression now blank.

I looked to the side, that being the only way I could explain everything to him. There was still a part of me that actively wondered what was going through his mind. Was he dying to kiss me that much? I was dying to kiss him, too, but my will to let him know the truth about me before anything else was much stronger.

“Please believe me when I say I’m not kidding,” I said, bringing my hands together.

“Why would you start by saying that?”

“I can manipulate elements.”

His response didn’t come right away as he pressed his lips together, looked around, then scoffed.

“Are you kidding?” he asked.

“See? That’s why I said I wasn’t kidding before I mentioned anything else.”

“Do you expect me to just believe something that’s unheard of from a werewolf?”

“I can definitely do it. I’m not that far along as I can only manipulate air and I’m still training for it. The other ones are water, fire and earth.”

He shook his head, pinching the bridge of his nose as he raised his eyebrows in disbelief. He obviously doubted me, but I didn’t intend on repeating myself.

With a heavy sigh, he said, “Fine, since you seem so serious about this and actually want me to believe it. How about you show me right now?”

“I was waiting for you to say that.”

He scoffed, breaking off a twig from a tree and firmly holding it while pointing at me.

“This has to be some kind of j-”

His eyes widened when I clenched my fists while pointing it at him, the air pressure increasing around his hand with the twig and he parted his lips in surprise.

Ready to blow his mind, I raised my fist with force, directing the twig in his hand to slip out. It floated in the air for a few seconds as I kept it there. Then, I swept my hand to the left and the twig went flying until it fell after hitting the bark of a tree.

He looked in that direction for a few seconds, then slowly looked at me with his lips still parted.

“How the fuck did you do that? I was firmly holding that twig and you just….just took it away from me.”

“I see you now believe me.” I held my head high, my lips curving into a smile.

In the blink of an eye, he suddenly charged at me and I panicked as he had me backed up against a tree, his face so close to mine that I could feel his heavy breathing.

“I obviously need an explanation,” he said.

“Yeah, right after you…”

“Right after what?”

“Right after you take a step back.”

Though I wanted him even closer than he already was so our lips could finally touch, the butterflies in my stomach only had my nerves out of control.

He glanced at my lips for a second, then looked into my eyes as he took a few steps back.

“Talk,” he said calmly. Everything on the outside seemed to be just as calm as his voice, but the fire inside him
