As Addison emphasized just how much she needed my help, Koa, who had been silent the entire time, suddenly yelled out despite me being in control.
“No!”
My heart started racing as I shut my eyes to speak to him.
“Koa, what are you doing?”
Just like that, he went silent, leaving me to deal with the situation myself.
I opened my eyes to Addison taking a step back, shock written all over her face as she narrowed her eyes.
“That obviously wasn’t me,” I quickly clarified.
“I know. I could tell from the voice,” she said quietly with a sigh of defeat.
“I’m glad. Just so you know, you can count on me for anyt-”
“I said no!” Koa spoke through me again and this time, his presence was so strong that I couldn’t suppress him. right away.
“What the hell’s your problem?” she asked.
Though she was obviously referring to Koa, I was still on the receiving end of her piercing glares.
“Listen to me, Addison Hunter. if you need my help, get down on your knees and beg me.”
Koa’s demands not only shocked Addison, but me, too.
She balled her hands into fists, shaking her head as she forced a chuckle. “I see what you’re trying to do here. Is this your way of displaying your dominance?”
“You’re the one who needs my help. It’s not the other way around and it’s definitely happening under my conditions. It’s only after you do as I’ve ordered that I might consider it.”
“Did you just say you might consider it? You know what?” She came closer, pointing right at me as she said, “Fuck you, Koa!”
While I was physically still the one on the receiving end, I sighed with relief, glad that she made a clear distinction between me and him.
As she faced the other way away and attempted to storm off, I grabbed her wrist to make her stop and for a moment, I feared she’d groan in pain, but I soon remembered that things were different.
“Hey,” I said gently, fully suppressing Koa.

She pulled her hand away with a grunt, not even turning around to look at me.

“I’m sorry about this. You know I’d be glad to help. I just don’t know why Koa is acting so entitled.”
“Because I’m royalty and no regular wolf!” Koa spoke through me.
Addison rolled her eyes with a chuckle of disbelief. “I’m not sticking around to hear anymore of what he has to say. I have to go.”
It should’ve been so easy to offer my help and Koa being against it only made me feel awful seeing her leave like that. It was for this reason that I needed to give her hope.
Right as she took her first step to get away, I said, “Wait.”
She paused, not even looking over her shoulder to glance at me. “What?”
As the Prince, no one had the right to speak to me that way, but that wasn’t the moment for me to remind her of that. The last thing I wanted was to sound just like Koa.
“None of this should’ve happened. As you leave this place, keep in mind that everything will be alright, okay?” I said, my voice assuring.
“Yeah.” Her voice was low with defeat, quite the opposite of her previous harsh reply.
She then put on a sprint of speed, leaving my sight in a blink of an eye.
Now that I was alone with Koa, I shut my eyes and clenched my jaw, finally speaking to him.
“Explain to me why you had to be so condescending.”
“Why should I when you know exactly the answer to that? I had every right to speak to her like that. She’s far from royalty to expect assistance just like that. She better get on her knees and beg me. You also know that you can’t do this without me.”
“As much as I hate to admit it, you’re absolutely right.”
I softly punched the bark of a tree in front of me, remembering how disappointed Addison was as she left. Then, I smirked at her boldness when she stood up to Koa. He was the only one who could help in her situation, yet she took no disrespect from him. As always, she continued to surprise me.
A few hours had gone by since my moment in the woods with Addison, yet I couldn’t forget the number of times that I was so close to finally tasting her lips but she kept getting away from me. If only I could tell her that the more she did that, the more I anticipated the taste.
Koa and I still weren’t on the same page. He only wanted to have his way and have her beg him but the way I saw it, that wasn’t going to happen no matter what. She had already made that clear.
Just as I finished putting on my shirt, Tyler returned to the palace and I called for him to come to me immediately.

He walked into my bedroom, making himself comfortable on my sofa as usual.
“What a day it’s been,” he said with enthusiasm.
“I actually feel the same way,” I replied, looking back at him.

“You know, if finding our mates was just about choosing from the pretty ones gathered here for the Warrior Selection Competition, this would have been smooth sailing, but it needs to be more than that and that’s what makes it so hard. I was out today, talking to one of the participants. She was so pretty but man, she was so dumb. She could only talk about herself. She’s coming up in the next round and I can already see her losing
“What if you’re just underestimating her?”
He firmly shook his head. “When it comes to her, all hope is already lost.”
“What about Drina?”
“Well, she was great, but she could have done better. And it’s obvious that as the competition progresses, only the best of the best will compete. It is from those finalists that I’ll choose my mate.”
“Even Ruby?” I teased him as I reached for a bottle.
“Please, anyone but her. That was such an easy round for her.”
“You’re right about that. It definitely can’t be compared to Addison. Her performance was impressive.”
He rolled his eyes. “Yeah, whatever.”
I paused with the bottle in my hand, narrowing my eyes. “Really? Is that all you have to say? Don’t tell me you weren’t impressed.”
“That was hard to watch.”
I shook my head in disbelief. “I don’t believe you. That’s not how you actually feel. I know what’s actually going on with you.”
“Oh, yeah? And what’s that?”
I sat beside him. “Ever since she disrespected our father, you don’t seem so fond of her anymore.”
He looked to the side, poking his cheek as he rose to his feet and began to make his way to the door so he could leave.
“You’re definitely right about that,” he bluntly told me.
“It’s quite the opposite for me, especially now that I can touch her.”
He stopped in his tracks, turned around and quickly returned to sit back on the bed beside me, his expression
one of confusion.
“What are you talking about?” he asked.

I explained it all to him and his response only came a few seconds later as he struggled to process it.
“So… she’s your mate?” he asked.
“She didn’t put it like that. I didn’t even get to ask.”
He sighed, ruffling his hair. “I guess it makes sense because she never had any reaction when I came in contact with her.”
“The problem is that she needs my help to reach her full potential but Koa won’t agree to it.”
He chuckled, nodding in satisfaction. “I’m glad to hear that.”
“Really?”
“What? She’s dealing with royalty and needs to learn her place.”
At that moment, I realized that there was no point in trying to change his mind about her, so I let it go.
“For now, let’s not tell anyone else about this.”
“Have I ever let you down?” He patted me on the back.
“Nope.”
“Then you can count on me. I have to go and get my attire ready for that dinner with Ruby’s family. I can’t believe my father made such arrangements. Just the thought of it already annoys me. We get to sit there and watch her be all over the place.”
“I doubt that’ll happen. You have to show some restraint in the presence of the Lycan King and Queen.”
He lightly shook his head. “Well see about that.”
As soon as he left, I lay down on my bed, closing my eyes to think about Addison again. I was so close to kissing her and even had way more in mind than that. With that bracelet, I could touch her as I pleased, fueling my desires more than ever.
While those were my intentions, there was something far greater than that, so I spoke to Koa, once again trying to convince him to help Addison, but it was the same response all over again. What was it going to take?
My thoughts were then interrupted when my mother called out to me using the mind link. She was out in the garden, wanting to have a chat with me. It was immediately heartwarming as I rarely got to spend time with her, all because my father usually had us separated,
I dressed up appropriately then made my way to the garden. She turned around as soon as I was close enough, smiling at me as she gestured to the guards to give us some privacy.
“You came sooner than I thought you would,” she said, placing her hands on my shoulders but barely making
eye contact.
I glanced at her hands on my shoulders, her affection shining through and I couldn’t help but smile.

“I guess it says a lot about how much I wanted to come here, I said. “We rarely get to do this?
“You’re right about that. Actually, we’ve never been here, just the two of us

Letting go of my shoulders, she said, “You’re obviously wondering why I called you out here. Looking at how the Warrior Selection Competition has progressed, is there anyone you’re impressed with?”
I wanted to mention Addison so badly but I chose not to.
“No one for now.”
“My instincts tell me you’ve been going to secretly meet someone.”
I scoffed. “I’m sorry but your instincts are deceiving you.”
“Oh, my son. Don’t forget that I’m the Luna and not just any kind. Anyway, when I asked if you had anyone you were interested in, I thought that for a moment there, you were going to mention Addison. She’s been the most impressive so far but so what? She’s Hunter’s daughter.”
She clenched her jaw.
It was clear to me what my mother’s standing point was when it came to Addison. If only she knew what we
were up to.
Just as I thought about what was going on between Addison and I, my curiosity couldn’t be suppressed and before I knew it, I just went for it.
“Do werewolves with mystical powers exist?”
Her eyes opened wide in surprise as she suddenly switched to the mind link. “My son, where did you hear
that?”
