Mysterious mate to the lycan prince (Addison and Max) novel Chapter 38

Chapter 38

Chapter 38

Addison

My training session with Lyra had finally come to an end and I should’ve gone back to my room and joined Phoebe and Sally, but it was too soon as I still beat myself up inside for the way I had lashed out at them. It was for this reason that I decided to go home to Aunt Nora.

When I made it to the familiar neighbourhood, I raised my eyebrows in pleasant surprise because I could also sense my brothers before getting to the house.

I stepped foot in the yard and right before getting to the porch, the front door burst open, revealing two familiar figures. Dylan and Cole stood there, surprise written all over their faces.

“Addison?” Cole called out to me.

“What brings you all the way here?” Dylan added.

My lips curved into a smile as I continued to approach and when I was close enough, I just wrapped an arm around each of them and they enveloped me in a tight hug. For a moment, everything around me felt right.

“I could ask you the same thing, but I’m glad you’re both here,” I said.

“We were just keeping her company. Let’s get you inside,” Dylan said, ruffling my hair. “Aunt Nora’s obviously waiting for you since she sensed you.”

“Hold it right there,” Cole chimed in, standing by the door to block the way as he furrowed his eyebrows. “Why aren’t you training for the competition?”

I chuckled confidently. “I was wondering why you got in the way but hey, don’t worry, I’ve definitely been training and I’ve got some new moves to show you guys later.”

Dylan’s eyes lit up with curiosity. “What kind of moves?”

Cole leaned in and stepped away from the door, his interest piqued. “Yeah, tell us more.”

I chuckled while shaking my head. “You’ll just have to wait and see. But trust me, you’ll definitely be impressed. I can already see it.”

“Just let it out already because I don’t have the patience.” Cole grunted, clenching his jaw while trying to figure it out.

Dylan joined in so they could try to get it out of me and the air was filled with playful tension. The suspense was amusing. It had only been a few minutes since I had arrived, but that was exactly what I needed to stop thinking about Max and Ruby.

As I entered the living room while leading the way, Aunt Nora was in her favourite seat, a warm smile spreading across her face as she opened her arms wide. I giggled and rushed over to her, going in for a tight hug.

“Oh, my Addie!” she said.

After my brothers exchanged a knowing look, Cole said, “They’re acting like they haven’t seen each other in years.”

Aunt Nora and I broke the hug with laughter, Dylan and Cole joining right in.

“You two need to understand that Addie’s been with me for some time now and I’m just used to having her around the house,” she said. “Now that she’s here, what would you three like to eat? I’ve got some delicious options ready.”

Cole narrowed his eyes, taking a few steps forward. “Wait, before we decide, did you already have this planned out? Or is it because you’re so excited that Addison’s here?”

Chapter 38

Aunt Nora crossed her arms, rolling her eyes. “You know, instead of asking questions, how about you give me an answe what you want to eat? Unless, you don’t want my offer because you prefer to hunt?”

The three of us glanced at each other with a subtle nod, then looked back at her as we responded in unison.

“Steak.”

“Why am I not surprised? Get ready. We’re going to that Steakhouse.”

I should’ve been excited just as much as they were, but I wished my parents could be here. I knew I could easily just go to them, but that was different.

Lost in thought, my eyes widened when Dylan ruffled my hair to get my attention.

“Hey, you’re messing up my hair,” I pouted.

“That’s the whole point. You just seemed so lost.”

“Yeah, are you worried that you actually have nothing to show us and we’ll be disappointed?” Cole snickered.

I smirked, understanding their intention to tease me.

I took a few steps back, stopping when I had enough wide space around me. I clenched my fists a few times, Dylan only making fun of me.

“Uh oh, she’s about to punch the air or something.”

Cole chuckled, Aunt Nora shaking her head at them as she paid attention to me.

When I was finally ready, I relaxed my hands, waving them in circular motion downwards.

“What’s that supposed to be? A cooking technique?” Cole playfully mocked me.

Just as they were about to do a fist bump, I lifted off the ground, their jaws dropping just like their hands.

From across the room, I lifted two vases while waving my hands, guiding them right on top of their heads.

Panicking, they attempted to get away, moving around as they kept looking up while warning me not to do it.

While it was amusing to see, it was Aunt Nora’s warnings about not breaking her vases that made me hold back, so I set them back in their spots at the same time my feet touched the floor.

Silence filled the air for a few seconds as I looked around and I flipped my hair. They didn’t have to say anything as it was written all over their faces.

“That was crazy. How did you do that?” Dylan asked.

“I told you I’ve been training. It’s all thanks to Lyra.”

“She’s a badass for this.” Cole stroked his chin.

“Hey, watch it,” Aunt Nora warned him, then smiled as she cupped my face. “I’m so proud of you.”

“I bet you’ll be on a different level against the competition with what you can do now,” Cole noted.

“How about I try it all out on you?” I glanced at my brothers.

“You better not,” Dylan warned me.

Chapter 38

When it seemed that our banter as siblings just wouldn’t stop any time soon, Aunt Nora reminded us that we needed i that Steakhouse.

While I was thrilled that they were so proud and impressed, they still didn’t know about Max and I. For as long I didn’t feel the need to mention it, I had decided to keep it to myself. I could only imagine how my brothers would react if they were to find out about Koa. Would they have stopped themselves from lashing out because of the hierarchy?

The Steakhouse wasn’t fully packed, making it easy for us to find seats. Aunt Nora led the way while holding my hand. She was so proud that she just wanted me close.

As Dylan and Cole settled down, some girls at a nearby table couldn’t help but stare at them, whispering to each other about how handsome they were.

“Now that’s what I call total eye candy!” one of them giggled.

I playfully rolled my eyes, now used to hearing so many girls swoon over them.

Despite all that, the two of them didn’t even bother to address it, their eyes glued to the menu.

Aunt Nora and I glanced at each other, shaking our heads at how the girls were so bold to whisper, knowing that we could still hear them.

Focusing on the menu, we both leaned forward so we could decide what to order, but she kept recommending something I didn’t like and in the process, rested her hand on my shoulder to get her nutrition point across.

Just as she was explaining it, the Steakhouse door creaked open and Aunt Nora’s grip on my shoulder hardened.

“Aunt?”

The concern in my voice alarmed my brothers and they looked up from their menus, curious.

She had her eyes fixed on the door and when I spotted Alpha Jeffrey with his bodyguards, it made sense to me that she reacted that way because of him.

He looked right at her and couldn’t peel his eyes away.

When he started making his way to our table, she instantly rose to her feet with her heart pounding.

“I’ll be right back.” Her tone was cold.

Wondering what was going on, the three of us switched to the mind link.

“That was really weird. Aunt is usually this way around Alpha Jeffrey,” Cole noted.

“Pay attention, you two,” Dylan said. “He’s still approaching us. We’re obviously being watched. Don’t forget who he works for. Just act cool.”

“We have nothing to worry about, big brother. Addison can obviously send him flying away if she wants to.”

“What? I’ll do no such thing.”

The back and forth banter with Cole only came to an end when Alpha Jeffrey was close enough.

“Good afternoon to you all. I see you’re here to have some steak.”

“What else is there to have in an establishment like this one?” Cole said, his tone a little harsh.

Chapter 38

I knew it was because of Alpha Jeffrey’s history with my father and how he’s continued on that path.

For a moment, I even feared that he’d lash out at us, but he composed himself, ignoring Cole and focusing on me.

“Your match really has everyone talking about you, even the Lycan King and his Luna. Just so you know, they’re keeping a close eye on you.”

His words instantly sent a shiver down my spine as I glanced at my brothers.
