Mysterious mate to the lycan prince (Addison and Max) novel Chapter 40

Chapter 40

Chapter 40

Addison

I still had quite some distance to cover before I would get to the meeting spot, but I could already sense Max.

“Will your heart keep beating this way even after you get to him?” Saga asked me.

“You’re just imagining things.” I said to her.

“I’m imagining things? Hello? I’m part of you. I know exactly what’s going on.”

I lowered my head with a sigh of defeat. “Maybe I’m just anxious or maybe I’m upset. I don’t know. It could be everything.”

“And you’re going to let him see you like this?”

I stopped in my tracks, taking a few deep breaths to get my emotions under control. When I was ready, I made my way forward until I spotted him. There he was, dressed in his royal attire, looking like the attractive lycan prince that he was. It was quite the sight to look at, but I wasn’t in a good mood because of him.

I noticed a small bag right behind him and even though I was curious about what exactly was inside, I decided to ignore it, telling myself that it didn’t matter. The only thing I was certain of was that it smelled like him.

Taking in the view of my figure from head to toe, he approached me as he said, “You finally made it. I could actually tell that you were on your way and I had the urge to follow you just to shorten the distance you would have to cover.”

“I’m glad you didn’t do it. I was doing just fine on my own.”

He tilted his head, narrowing his eyes as he studied my face. I could only wonder if my raw feelings were that obvious to

him.

Taking a step back, he said, “Did you not enjoy what you were served at the steakhouse?”

“Why do you ask?”

“Hmm, let’s see. It’s the grumpiness, those glares, your clenched fists. Should I go on?”

It was only after he mentioned it all that I fixed my expression, unclenched my fists and adjusted the tone of my voice to sound normal.

“I’m fine. Let’s just get to the point of why I’m here so I can go.”

He chuckled. “You make it sound like you don’t want to be here.”

“Max, Just tell me why you wanted to see me.”

He nodded without questioning me and I knew he was about to get to the point, so I held my breath, hoping he would tell me about Ruby, but the words that came out of his mouth came as a surprise.

“I spoke to my mother and asked her about werewolves with mystical powers.”

I exhaled slowly. “Oh, you did?”

“Yes and I learned so much. I could’ve just called you, but I wanted you to hear this in person.”

While that wasn’t what I thought I’d hear, it had something to do with me and I needed to find out as much as I could.

“What did she say?”

Chapter 40

As Max mentioned every single detail he learned from his mother, some of it left me in shock and some of it left me confused.

“About the other werewolves like me from the past.”

“What about them?”

“If they were so powerful, how did they die?”

“On that part, I have no idea.”

“Honestly, this doesn’t make things any better because now, I’m worried about the Lycan King.”

“Don’t worry. My father seems to have a change of heart.”

“I don’t believe that. I think he only spares those that aren’t a threat to him.”

“Are you?”

Offended, I growled. “How could you ask me that?”

“I just told you what could become of you once you reach your full potential. That should be enough.”

“Don’t forget that there’s an equal chance of others hunting me down. And take a good look at me.” I held up my hands, slowly turning to show him all of me. “Which part of me looks like a threat to you?”

My question was met with a low growl as he drew his bottom lip between his teeth. I could see it in his eyes. It was the same look from that moment when we almost kissed. What was going through his head at that moment? I wondered.

Composing himself and looking away, he said, “I strongly believe that you’ll be just fine, as long as I don’t let you turn into something else.”

“And what gives you that right?”

“You’re the one who asked for my help. It’s now more obvious than ever.”

Even though I raised my voice a little as I couldn’t believe what he was saying to me, his voice was lower than usual, his expression and tone suggestive. If only I could read his mind.

“My mother opened my eyes and I don’t intend to let you do this alone. There’s only one way we are doing it and I won’t be the one to deal with the first part, at least not this face.”

“What?”

Silently, he took a step back and crouched down, making me wonder what was going on. It soon became clear when I witnessed him shift for the first time and once he was in full Lycan form, I could only look up at his towering figure. The black shiny fur, yellow glowing eyes and a majestic aura was what characterized the sight before me. I was so close that I wanted to reach my hand out for a touch, the arousal I began to feel, leaving me a little embarrassed as I tried to contain myself. I could even sense Saga getting drawn to Koa.

I then understood what Max meant when he said he didn’t want any part of this. It had to be Koa, but he didn’t just stand there, he licked his lips while looking right at me. Those eyes were so intense, baring a look of desire.

“Addison and Saga,” he began, his tone authoritative with a hint of his usual arrogance, “I’d love to say I was out of line last time when I ordered you to beg for my help, but now that I think about it, I wasn’t.”

I shook my head in disbelief. “I didn’t expect anything different from-”

“Wait, I’m not finished. I’ve always been one to get what I want because I’m different from many and only answer to the

Lycan King and Luna, sometimes, even to Max. Other than that, I’ve never had to offer my help to anyone who’s ordi and I’ve been thinking about it and realized you’re far from ordinary.”

I raised my eyebrows. “That’s the nicest thing you’ve ever said to me.”.

“I mean it and that’s all you’re going to get.”

I chuckled. “Knowing you, I’m not surprised, but that’s okay. One day, I’ll hear those words from you.”

“Not in this lifetime. That aside, I’m ready to be of assistance to you and Saga. If only I could see her and just…” He trailed off, licking his lips again with a low growl. Not once had I ever thought he’d turn out to be this way and the feeling was mutual.

“Eventually, you will,” I said, trying to keep my composure.

“I’ll leave the other part to Max. Anything else you want to say directly to me?”

“Uh..no.”

“Good, because I was leaving anyway.”

I closed my eyes, shaking my head as I pointed out his arrogance.

I opened my eyes a few seconds later and gasped when I witnessed the shift. Max was fully going to be human and I knew he was going to be completely naked. Not wanting to see that, I quickly faced the other side.

“You know,” Max said from behind me. “I seriously don’t understand why you looked away. Don’t you see such things all the time?”

“That’s different.”

“It’s all the same.”

“For me, it’s not.”

At the sound of a zipper, I placed my hands on my cheeks. My heart was still racing and to my surprise, it wasn’t the only

one.

I closed my eyes again, telling myself to stop imagining things, but my breath hitched when he whispered close to my neck while towering over me from behind.

“You can look now.”

“Are you dressed?”

“Of course I am. What do you think of me?”

While he didnt say it, I could feel it. It wasn’t just in the air around me or his warm breath, but also from within my body.

Slowly, I turned around to face him, my breath instantly getting a little faster at his exposed top half, I could make out all the contours of his muscles. That’s how shredded he was. If only I could reach out and trace my fingers all over them quickly.

Just as my gaze dropped to his pants that didn’t fully cover his Adonis Belt, I reminded myself of how he still hadn’t mentioned the dinner with Ruby. Just like that, my tone and expression turned cold.

“Put on a shirt.”

“Too distracting?” He smirked.

Chapter 40

“Yes…I mean….no. Are we done here? I have to go.”

“No, we’re not done here. There’s something else we need to talk about. I first had to tell you about what I learned from my mother.”

“What is it this time?”

“Two things and first, this attitude of yours is because of Ruby, right?”

My eyes widened, but I quickly brought back my cold demeanor, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“It’s obviously because of her.”

“Did she really spend the night at the palace? Did you two get close?” I blurted out.

He chuckled. “You see what I mean?”

“I’m just asking because I’m curious. She wouldn’t stop rubbing it in my face the day she was getting ready.”

“The crazy thing was that she didn’t even get to enjoy the meal or taste it. As part of her punishment, my father made her kneel on the floor and-”

“Banned her from the competition?”

He furrowed his eyebrows. “How did you know that?”

“Her father mentioned it when we met at the steakhouse.”

“I see. Well, it’s true and as for Murphy, we don’t know yet.”

“Based on what I know about Alpha Warrick, that’s a surprise.”

“My father can be unpredictable at times. As for Ruby, she was furious.”

I rolled my eyes. “This better not be the part where you ask if I’ll be okay.”

“Of course not. You can take care of yourself.”

My heart fluttered. He was the first one to say something different.

“Do you want to know why I didn’t tell you about the dinner? Your reaction was going to say a lot, and I got exactly what I wanted out of it.”

“Which is?”

“That you feel the way I do,” he said, placing his fingers at the base of my chin.

His words made my heart skip a beat and I wanted to deny it so badly, but the words failed me as I looked into his eyes. It was then that I thought it was best to make a run for it, but I froze when he tilted his head, his breath getting warmer each time he got closer.

“Addison…” His voice was barely above a whisper.

“Yes?” I whispered, closing my eyes.

“There’s one more thing I have to tell you. My brother and I came up with the Warrior Selection Competition in search of our mates… and I can confidently say I found mine.”

My eyes shot open in surprise, but it took me a second to speak and in that moment. he hurriedly placed his lips on mine.
