It didn’t matter to me if Addison had something to say about mates at that moment. I had already decided that it would have to wait until I was done with her gorgeous lips.

At the same time that I pushed forward with my bare chest against her and she began to move backward, my tongue lingered on her lips for a few seconds. It was a pleasant surprise when she parted her lips, granting me access to her. There was a need in her breath that matched mine.

Resting my hand at the back of her neck, the other one latched onto her narrow waist, my touch making her gasp against my lips. It didn’t matter what I did to her, she didn’t stop me.

When she wrapped her arms around my neck, I growled, held onto her thighs and lifted her. She knew exactly where to put her legs, right around my waist and it was then that our breaths got heavier.

If only her jeans were not in my way, my hands would have travelled places, just for a closer feel of the heat coming from between her legs.

Our heads switched sides, our lips locking like it was the last time. She ran her hands all over my bare back, that only making my bulge grow bigger as it rubbed against her inner thigh.

I had the strong urge to slide my hands inside her shirt just so I could feel her bare skin and when I went for it, she still didn’t stop me.

With rushed caresses on the nape of her neck as she lost herself in the feeling of my bare hand, she groaned and growled and it was at that moment that I sensed Saga.

Suddenly, Addison hit my chest with hard fists, making me put her down as I wondered what was going on.

As soon as her feet touched the ground, she pushed me away, wiping her lips as she shook her head with wide eyes.

“I can’t believe this is happening,” she said, trying to catch her breath.

“What are you talking about?” I furrowed my eyebrows, equally out of breath.,

“I see what’s going on here.” She forced a chuckle, rubbing her temples.

“Hold on. What are you talking about?”

Her smile faded as she shot me a glare. “Making me want you so badly right after telling me you want me as your mate. This is your way of tricking me, isn’t it?”

“What?”

“After everything you told me about what your mother said, this is the best thing for you to do.”

“Wait, you think I’m doing this because I’m trying to-”

“Exactly!” She cut me off, her eyes wide with paranoia.

I sighed, clenching my fist so I wouldn’t lash out.

“Look, I understand that this was a lot to take in and you’re just scared, but it’s not what you think,” I assured her.

“I…I shouldn’t be here.” She looked around with a frantic gaze. “I have to go.”

Chapter 41

She attempted to make a run for it, but I dashed in front of her, holding onto her arms.

“Wait.”

“Get your hands off of me! Is this it? Is this the part where your royal guards surround us to make sure I’m captured”

“Just listen to what I have to say.” I tightened my grip on her arms, not planning to let her go. “It’s my fault for doing things this way. I tell you all about what you’re capable of, then tell you that I’ve chosen you as my mate. I can understand why you feel this way right now, but you have this all wrong.”

“Yeah?” She scoffed, her chest rising and falling rapidly with short breaths as she pulled back her arms.

“Before I even knew about who you were back at Blackbolt High, I already liked you and that’s why I pushed so hard for you to be in the Warrior Selection Competition. It was along the way that I got to learn about your powers. I was already considering having you as my mate before all this. That’s why you’re wrong to think that I would do this right now because of my family. Just to prove to you that I mean no harm, you don’t have to accept what I just told you.”

“What?” Her heavy breathing began to stabilize.

“Yes, you heard that right. I’m not forcing you to become my mate or looking to take what’s yours. I already know how you feel about me, but that doesn’t mean we’re doing things my way. I want you to think about it.”

With a deep exhale, she wiped the beads of sweat that had begun to form on her forehead.

It seemed that everything was alright for a moment, but when some leaves rustled, she flinched, frantically looking around again.

“I have to go. I have to talk to my mom…. and dad…. and-”

“Take your time, but just keep in mind that I’ve chosen you.”

While I was in the middle of wishing her good luck, she dashed past me and was out of sight in an instant. Her presence left my senses in only a short time and that was a clear indication of just how much she didn’t trust me.

Resting my back against the same tree where I had her, I shut my eyes as I lingered on the taste of her lips, the warmth of her breath and the heat between her legs. The shift only made me want her even more.

The more I replayed how I had her up against the tree, wishing her jeans weren’t in my way, the more my heart raced and I could still feel the rush in my pants.

“Fuck, that shouldn’t have happened,” I said to Koa. “It’s your fault.”

“My fault?” he responded. “Don’t forget one important fact I am part of you.”

Even though I didn’t have to speak out loud to communicate with Koa, I paid no attention. I could only think about Addison and I. No matter what her decision was about becoming my mate, I hoped that she wouldn’t see me as the enemy. I was far from that. If only I could say the same about everyone else.
