Chapter 42
Chapter 42
Max
As I made my way back to the palace, I had no shirt on, the girls I met along the way unable to take their eyes off me ev recognized some of the participants from the competition. I could hear their whispers as they gushed over my physique, but it made no difference to me. I was certain those compliments would’ve made a difference had they come from Addison.
The lustful gazes only grew more obvious along the way and I felt I just had to hurry so I could get home and put that moment behind me.
However, I picked up a familiar scent without turning my head. I was certain it was her, Trish, a girl who once came close to winning me over in the past, just as Tyler had put it. I clenched my fists as I overheard whispers. She bragged to the girls she was with, emphasising just how close we were and I told myself to keep moving forward without paying attention to her.
“Hey, I thought you said you and Prince Max are pretty close!” one of the girls whispered to her.
“We definitely are,” Trish confidently whispered back.
“Then why hasn’t he looked over here? Doesn’t he recognize you?”
She arrogantly chuckled. “Just wait here and watch.”
Though I wondered what she was up to, not once did I slow down but suddenly, she stuck a landing right in front of me, flipping her long hair as she flashed me a smile.
“Hey, Max,” she said, blocking the way as she stared right at my abs.
“Hey, Trish.” My tone was neutral.
“Really? That’s it?” She scoffed. “For someone you haven’t spoken to in years. That’s quite the response.”
“You make it sound like you and I have stayed in touch all these years.”
Her friends gasped, then giggled quietly in mockery of her.
She cleared her throat to hide her embarrassment, forcing herself to smile as she placed a hand on her hip, her eyes glancing at my torso.
“That doesn’t matter right now since it’s in the past,” she said. “Ever since the competition began, you and I haven’t spoken.”
“Things are different now.”
“So what? We’re here now. Let’s hang out tomorrow. I’m not taking no for an answer and-”
I growled, cutting her off to silence her. “It seems that the friendship we shared in the past has you confused about something.” I paused, taking a step forward and she backed away, her heart beginning to race. “I’m the Lycan Prince, learn your boundaries.”
“H-hey,” she nervously chuckled. “I was only trying to bring back the vibe from the old days.”
“Times have changed. Did you miss that part when I mentioned it? We’re not young anymore, adapt.”
She subtly scoffed.
My eyes glowed the moment I noticed. “What was that?”
“It’s…it’s nothing!” She lowered her head, her shoulders curved inward.

Chapter 42
Putting my glowing eyes away, I said, “That’s what I thought. Now, out of my way.”
The road was wide enough for both of us, but I chose to show her who was in charge.
Quietly, she stepped aside, her heart still racing as she bowed to me.
Right before I proceeded to the palace, I caught sight of the moment her friends burst into laughter, openly making fun of her as it all blew up in her face.
I arrived at the palace, not sensing my parents and I knew right away that they weren’t home.
I could only sense Tyler, so I called him to my room for something urgent.
He walked in and found me shirtless, his steps slowing down as he tilted his head with narrowed eyes.
“Before you say anything, why do you smell like Addison? Her scent is all over you.”
I chuckled, communicating with the mind link as I began telling him what happened in the woods.
“You did what?” he said, his eyes widening.
“Yeah, I told her I wanted her as my mate.”
“Don’t tell me she said yes.”
“She didn’t, but I had her legs wrapped around my waist and her soft lips on mine. You should’ve seen how she passionately had her hands all over my bare back.”
“Ugh! And that’s why her scent is all over you.” He twisted his face in disgust. “This can’t be happening.”
“Don’t make that face. You know how I feel about her.”
He chuckled, nodding like he had just understood something. “I see what’s going on here. You’re doing this for the sake of this pack and all our parents have established.”
“You sound just like Addison.”
He turned serious, firmly shaking his head. “Hey, don’t ever compare me to her.”
“But it’s the truth. That’s what scared her and she ran off.”
“I hope it stays that way, but how could you ask her to be your mate when not even Koa is in agreement with it?”
“That’s where you’re wrong. Things are different now. I shifted and there was a face-to-face chat.”
He sighed in defeat. “That means I’m all alone in this fight.”
“What fight? You need to stop with that.”
“I mean come on. This is Koa we’re talking about and I thought he’d eventually want nothing to do with her.”
“He wanted everything to do with her more than ever when I shifted.”
Waving his hand dismissively, he said, “I don’t like any of this. Just because she ran away doesn’t mean she said no. What if she actually says yes?”
My lips curved into a smile. “That’s what I’m hoping for.”

His expression turned to uncertainty and worry. “If she says yes, I don’t think it’ll end well. Will you tell our parents about this?”
“No, and you better not open your mouth as well, not even to anyone else.”
He nodded in agreement. “What did you even tell them when they saw you leave the palace?”
“Just that I had a few girls to meet. You know they’re looking forward to us finding our mates. That’s why they didn’t ask any questions.”
“Then it’s a good thing we’re still working on that.”
“For me, not anymore.” I reminded him.
His enthusiasm faded. “I still have no luck so far. Your situation turned out to be unique, so that leaves me on my own.”
I placed my hand on his shoulder. “You’ll find her. Now that we have the important part out of the way, I met Trish on my way back. She was under the impression that our relationship was still the same. She might never talk to me again after what I did.”
“And here I was, thinking she had a shot at becoming your mate.”
“That’s why you kept bringing her up from the moment we returned home, but there’s no need for that. It’s Addison.”
He huffed, his expression turning thoughtful as he finally took a seat. “Are you really sure about this?”
“I’ve never been so sure about anything in my life, especially when I strongly sensed Saga.”
“And what happens when our father finally finds out? This will be dangerous.”
I chuckled. “Not if he doesn’t find out about her powers.”
Shaking his head as a gentle warning, he said, “You make it sound like he’s the only one in the way.”
