Early in the morning, I was out in the woods training with Lyra become even better at manipulating air using my hands.
She had always made sure that there wasn’t anyone close-by and in the few instances that had happened, she would always take us to a new location in only a second.
Finally allowed to take a break, I sat down on the ground, my breath heavy as I looked at the palms of my hands.
“Honestly, I’m so proud of myself. I even went up against Tyler and won.”
She scoffed, crouching down in front of me.
“What is it?” I asked.
“You think you’re almost done with air?”
“Well…mostly, yeah. I can already channel enough force to push back against anything or anyone in my way. I can even float objects around.”
“I have news for you…you still have a long way to go.”
“What?” I protested a little, dropping my back to the ground.
“That’s right. You’re not as good as you think you are.”
I was so used to her being blunt with me that I only nodded in understanding as I sat up again.
“Since I still have a long way to go, what else do I have to learn apart from being able to use just a finger to make things happen?”
“You still haven’t learned how to manipulate air with your feet and-”
“What? Will I really be able to do that?”
“Can you let me finish?” She shot me glare.
“Sorry,” I said, clearing my throat. “You were saying?”
“Apart from your feet, you’ll be able to use your mouth. Imagine yourself drawing in air from the environment around you or blowing it out from within.”
“That sounds cool.”
“I know, but you still have to train for it. It’s also possible that while learning to draw in air from the environment, you might choke on something.”
“Nope! Then we’re not doing it.” I firmly shook my head.
She smiled a little, rising to her feet. ” I’m just kidding.”
I frowned, getting off the ground while cleaning myself up. “I didn’t find that funny.”
“Who says I was doing it to make you laugh?”
I poked my cheek, shaking my head at how she always had a comeback for everything I would say to her.

Suddenly, my phone began to ring from the small bag I had hanging by a branch and I tried to take a step towards it, only to be stopped by an invisible force.
“Lyra? What’s going on?”
“The only way you’re getting that back is by making it come to you.”
“But-”
“Do you think you’ll suck at it?”
I huffed. “No.”
“Then do it.”
Taking a step back, I raised my hand, guiding the strap of the bar until I unhooked it from the branch. It floated in the air and I slowly directed it towards me.
Just as I held it in my hand, my phone stopped ringing. I took it out, my eyes widening upon seeing Max’s name.
Quickly, I called him back, placing the phone against my ear.
I looked over at Lyra as it began to ring and she shook her head at me.
“What?” I asked.
“You should’ve seen your face when you missed the call and realized it was Max.”
I looked to the other side, trying to hide my embarrassment.
“Did I call at a bad time?” he said from the other end of the line as soon as he picked up.
“Not really, I was just in the middle of training.”
“Yup, bad timing.”
“I’m actually done with it. What’s up?”
“It’s Tyler.”
“Oh…what about him?”
“He told me what happened between you two yesterday.”
“Let me guess, you’ll take his side because he’s the only brother you have?”
“No.”
It took me a few seconds to respond as I processed it. “Really?”
“That’s not why I’m calling. He wants to meet you.”
“For revenge?”
He chuckled. “Just to talk.”
More than anything, I wanted things to go back to how they use to be between Tyler and 1, so I agreed to it.
After cutting the call, Lyra came closer and said, “Are you doing is right now?”

“I’ll only be training for today’s competition an hour from now, yes.”
“Good. It’s important that I know your exact location while you’ be with them, just in case Tyler’s thinking of something stupid.”
“I admit that he was aggressive yesterday, but I don’t think it’ll come to that. Besides, I can handle myself.”
“For now, that’s what it looks like, but imagine if you were to face a whole pack. Speaking of which, don’t ever defend yourself using your abilities. I know you did it in Tyler’s presene because he knows the truth. But if you’re ever in danger. I’ll be there for you. Keep your powers a secret. Is that clear?”
She vanished before I could even respond, making me shake my head.
As I approached the meeting spot, which was the same place at which Tyler and I had a confrontation the previous day, I cautiously sniffed around, trying to detect any unfamiliar scent.
There was no one apart from the two of them, making me proceed with less caution.
When they both finally came into view, my eyes first landed on Tyler as he was closer, but as soon as I looked at Max, my heart skipped a beat and Tyler scoffed.
I shot him a glare, knowing that his reaction was only because he could hear my heart beat. Max had obviously heard it too, but he just stood there and subtly bit his lip.
Unlike the previous day, nothing about Tyler seemed confrontational, which was why I chose to stay in place.
The silence lingered for quite a while and I began to feel a little awkward, but I soon realized it was only because the two of them spoke to each other using the mind link.
It went on longer than I thought and I began to grow impatient.
“Did I come here to watch you two say nothing out loud?” I said to them.
Tyler rolled his eyes at me, but I let it slide as Max had my full attention.
“Sorry to keep you waiting. Tyler is just being a pussy.”
“What? That’s not true.”
“Then speak,” Max and I said in unison, looking at each other as we tried not to laugh about it.
“Oh, please! Not right in front of me.” Tyler rubbed his temples, hen dropped his hands and faced me. “Look, I don’t even know where to start. Yesterday shouldn’t have happened the way it did. I just got so angry and decided to attack. You need to understand that he’s still my father.”
“I understand and you know what? I was thinking about yesterday and realized something. You had enough time for a full shift, but I think you held on.”
“That’s because I didn’t want to go that far. And as for you, I know you could’ve done way worse, but you chose to put a stop to it. I even saw it in your eyes. Even though you now know that the Lycan Prince, I miss the way we were before.”
“Me too. My lips curved into a smile.
He smiled back. “I’m sorry about what happened.”
“I’m sorry, too.”

“My older brother is more important to me than anyone else. That’s why your secret is safe with me.”
“Aww, isn’t he so sweet?” Max Teased him.
Tyler playfully glared at him, then looked back at me as his expression softened.
“Shake on it?” He held out his hand with enthusiasm.
I nodded, placing my hand in his and we shook hands.
“You know, it’s quite the privilege that most don’t have…and you get to shake my hand just like that!”
I chuckled loudly, that being the Tyler I knew.
Max gave a round of applause like he was watching a show, proudly nodding as he came closer.
He placed one hand on Tyler’s shoulder, the other one resting of mine and just the sensation of his touch made me drop my head to the side as I looked up at him. Our eyes locked again but Tyler cleared his throat to remind us that he was still with us.
“I’m glad you guys are good now,” Max said.
While I was also glad that it was the case, I left room for Tyler and I to clash in the future when it came to Alpha Warrick and my father. I was certain he did, too but for that moment, nothing else mattered.
“Well, I guess we should get going now before our parents find out we moved around Pike Hill without our guards. It’s not like Max and I even need them! Anyway, are you ready for the competition this afternoon?”
“I still have some training to do, but I’m ready.”
Tyler nodded and we shook hands first as we were about to depart, but when I held onto Max’s hand, his grip tightened like he didn’t want to let go. Memories came flooding back of how he had me up against that tree with his tongue in my mouth.
It was only when Tyler tapped him on the shoulder that we both looked away from each other and they made their way in the opposite direction.
For as long as Max was in my view, I didn’t look away and neither did he.
At that moment, it felt like the more I saw him, the more I was certain of what my decision would be. I couldn’t stop thinking about it even as I got closer to the Academy of Warriors
Suddenly, a familiar scent rapidly grew stronger and I stopped in my tracks, ready for whatever was about to come my way.
