Chapter 48
Addison
With my feet grounded, I could feel the vibrations that grew strenger each second and soon, Ruby came into view at her lightning speed with her claws and fangs exposed. I even waited little longer just to make her think she had me right where she wanted me.
Just when she was close enough and swung at me with her claws swiftly stepped to the side, effortlessly dodging the attack.
She snarled as she stopped in her tracks and turned around for another attempt, but not once did she get too close. Her eyes even glowed in frustration with each attempt to scrape any part of my body.
Finally putting a stop to it, she put her claws and fangs away, shooting me glares as her eyes stopped glowing.
“You fucking ruined it all for me!” She roughly pushed back her messy hair.
“Me? What did I do?” My eyes grew wide, pretending to be confused.
“You know exactly where I’m going with this!” She sneered at me her eyes now condescending. “Because of this bullshit, you think you’re so much better than me now, don’t you?”
While there was still some space between us, I was cautious enough not to let my guard down, but I stood tall in front of her, my shoulders squared and eyes alert.
“I don’t think I’m so much better than you because the truth is, I don’t think about you at all,” I said, my voice calm and
even.
She twisted her face in anger. “Aren’t you the same bitch that used to cower every time I picked on you?”
“I never did that. I only avoided trouble. Know the difference. Look at you, trying to go back in time to look for anything that will make you come out on top right now.”
Her eyes narrowed as she balled her hands into fists, but I only glanced at them, then met her gaze again. I wasn’t going to back down.
The confrontation between us began to draw a crowd, competitors and those who were part of the academy. They all quickly gathered to watch the spectacle. Some of them whispered, but everyone could still hear them.
“That’s her? That’s Ruby, right?”
“Yeah, she’s the one who’s been banned from the competition.”
“Whatever she did must have been really awful to face such a punishment!”
Even though the whispers continued, Ruby shut them out, wanting to still come out on top against me.
As she took a step closer, her voice turned to a menacing whisper “You won’t see what’s coming for you. Mark my words.”
“Oh yeah?” I mockingly shivered with a smirk.
“It should be me out there, not you! You’ve always been the underdog! You and your fucking family that doesn’t even live within this kingdom!”
My smirk faded and she knew she had just struck a nerve.
“That’s right.” She sneered. “I know all about your family history Your useless father was such a pussy that he decided to run away from his duties to the Lycan King!”

As she went on to further disrespect my family, my eyes flashed with anger, which only got her excited. Unknown to her was what she steered in me with each passing second. The soft snarling began in the depths of my mind, responding to the threat in front of me.
When I finally snarled out loud, she instantly shut up, the vibrations from my throat making her take a step back as she involuntarily glanced at my hands that were clenched into fists.
“You can disrespect me all you want, but don’t ever involve my family.” My voice was low and even, but with a hint of an underlying growl.
I told myself to keep it all under control for Saga’s sake, but I just kept replaying everything Ruby had said to me and it was infuriating.
I waited for an attack from her just so I wouldn’t be the one to initiate it, but it never came. Instead, she took a step back while firmly shaking her head.
“Fuck this! Why am I even here when you’re not worth my time she said, looking into the crowd and spotting our roommates. “Phoebe, Sally, those servants left my jersey behind. Look for it in the room and bring it to me.”
To Ruby’s surprise, the two of them exchanged a glance and shrugged as they looked back at her.
“We might have given you the impression that we’re your servants or something, but let’s clear that up right now….” Phoebe trailed off confidently.
“We’re not!” Sally added, her voice firm. ” So, how about you go and get it yourself? You know where the room is!”
I raised my eyebrows a little in surprise. I didn’t actually expect such a response from either of them.
The crowd even murmured in amusement.
“Ugh!” Ruby toughened up, storming off by herself while pushing through the crowd. “I don’t need you two! You were nothing but leeches anyway!”
The crowd scoffed at how she was still so annoying even after all that had just happened.
As everyone began to disperse. Phoebe and Sally approached me holding their heads high.
“We’re so glad you didn’t get into a fight with Ruby,” Sally said. “You would’ve also been disqualified from the competition.”
“For my family, I wouldn’t mind,” I replied. “I didn’t think you two would speak to Ruby like that.”
“We just took what you said into consideration and honestly, that felt good!” Phoebe admitted. “So….are we training now?”
I looked around, a little mischievous thought coming to mind. “Just give me a few minutes.”
No one knew what I was up to, which made it even better for me so I headed to the hallway that led to the dorm room, stopping several doors away from my room.
