Chapter 49
Addison
I constantly looked around, making sure that those passing by wouldn’t find my hand movements suspicious while standing
in the same spot.
Just to make it believable that I wasn’t up to anything mischievous, I took out my phone and called Gina, who picked up only after a few tries.
“Shouldn’t you be training right now?” She asked from the other end of the line.
“I am. I just wanted to check up on you.”
“Aww…that’s so sweet! You know, I really hope I can make it on time for today’s event.”
She went on to tell me about an elderly werewolf in her family that wasn’t doing too well and while I paid some attention to it, I focused more on Ruby’s movement from the dorm room, waiting for the right moment.
When the door creaked open and Ruby was about to head out, subtly waved my hand, directing a gush of wind that led to the door slamming right in her face.
“Ugh! What the fuck?” she yelled from inside, annoyed.
Though I wasn’t done yet, I couldn’t help but giggle.
“What’s funny?” Gina asked. “I don’t remember saying anything to make you react like that. Unless the sound of someone I care about not doing too well is humorous.”
Composing myself, I said, “It’s nothing to do with that. I just saw something here. I have to go now.”
“I’d say good luck to you, but you don’t need it. Olivia might be considered a tougher opponent than Drina because she also advanced, but you’ll kick her ass! We all believe you will!”
As Gina went on to tell me all the expectations she had heard about my match with Olivia, I focused on my dorm room door, keeping it shut with a pulling force from underneath.
Ruby grunted as she tried a few times to open the door, but it wouldn’t budge. The last thing I wanted was for her to break the door handle. There wasn’t going to be any fun in that for me since I wasn’t done yet. It was for this reason that I ended the call and finally put a stop to the pulling force and instead, pushed the door open with the palm of my hand and she went flying in the air with a scream, breaking some furniture as she landed.
She instantly went on a rant, taking out her frustration on the rest of the furniture as she began to break it.
The door was wide open, those passing by stopping as they looked on in shock at how she destroyed the academy’s property.
Done with what I came for, I faced the other way, slowly exiting the building with my head high.
It was already expected that she would get in trouble after many had witnessed her breaking furniture, but nothing compared to the satisfaction I got from slamming the door in her face and sending her flying through the air.
Had she been in the woods, I would have done much worse, but here was always a next time.
I made my way to my teammates while thinking about her thres, which I didn’t take lightly, but I knew just how to deal with the situation..
Since I couldn’t share what had just happened to Ruby with Gin I dialed Max’s number instead, who found amusement in

it as I explained it all.
It took a few minutes to get to my teammates, who had already gathered around, so I talked to him for as long as I could.
As I got closer, I noticed Phoebe and Sally watching me with wide eyes as they glanced at each other a few times.
I wondered what was going on with them, so I ended the call, then approached the two of them.
“Is something wrong?” I asked.
“Was that Max on the phone?” Phoebe asked.
“Yes, tell us!” Sally’s eyes widened with curiosity.
I smacked my lips. “You know what he sounds like, so you know the answer to that.”
They both clapped with excitement, beginning to suck up to me like they did with Ruby, but I held up my hand to cut them off.
“We’re here to practice and regroup now that we no longer have Ruby with us, so let’s focus on that,” I said.
They both cleared their throats, nodding in agreement as they returned to the previous spot.
Among all of us, no one seemed to want to take the lead, so as usual, I did.
“We’re one member short, but-”
“It doesn’t matter because even if you were to lose today, you’ll still be in the competition thanks to your impressive match with Drina!” Sally interrupted me, my serious expression making her cringe. “Sorry, I uh…I just really wanted to mention that. You were saying?” She forced a chuckle.
Looking past her interruption, I said what was on my mind, the rest of them adding on.
At that moment, it all seemed that we had it all planned out, so we proceeded to training and I made sure I didn’t overdo it.
It had been announced that only the top six would get those scholarships but for me, it wasn’t really about that. I told myself that when the moment came in which I felt that I didn’t need to be part of the competition, I was going to quit.
The match was moments away and there I was, about to face my opponent, Olivia. We had both advanced to the next level and even though I was stronger, I told myself to take it easy.
During the introductions by the announcer, so many called out Olivia’s name in support, but it was the same for me, even those from other schools cheered both of us on.
My loudest supporters were Aunt Nora, Dylan, Cole and Gina. While most of my family was present, I still wished my parents could be part of such moments, even just once.
Lyra was over on the other side, watching me while communicating with me in my mind.
Just when we thought the match was about to begin, the arrival the Lycan Princes was suddenly announced, leading to mini-conversations in the crowd. No one knew that they were going to be there. It came as a surprise to me as well.
“It looks like your boyfriend came to watch you,” Saga teased me
“Shut up.”
As soon as Max and Tyler walked in, dressed in their royal attire and accompanied by guards, everyone present rose to their

feet and bowed to them, waiting until the two of them took their seats before sitting down again.
I finally looked up, my eyes first landing on Max and my heart skipped a beat at how he had his eyes on me. Anyone else would have thought he was only paying attention to the match which was about to begin, but I knew that look in his eyes.
I glanced at Tyler and he subtly shook his head, as if picking up on his brother and I for the way we looked at each other.
It was only when the whistle blew that I looked away and focused on my opponent. She was fast and calculating, but I knew just how to counterattack and the crowd went wild.
Olivia was much stronger than Drina, but nowhere as strong as was. I still had to put on a show to make it believable, so I let the match drag on a little bit longer.
Just when I felt it was enough and was about to end the match, a wave of unease washed over me as a familiar scent wafted its way to my nostrils. I instantly dropped my hands, my heart racing as I frantically looked around to find its source but it wasn’t yet in sight.
I couldn’t move my body as I noticed that the scent only got stronger. Not even the whispers in the crowd along with Olivia’s confusion had my attention as I couldn’t focus on anything else.
Finally, the source of the scent joined the crowd and upon seeing her face, I was only filled with guilt and shock.
It was at that moment that Olivia took the opportunity to finish the match and just like that, I was defeated, the crowd a mix of cheers and boos that I had just lost in a way that made no sense to them.
Of all the ways that I thought I’d be defeated, not once did I think about Jess suddenly showing up. Judging by the look on her face, she wasn’t there to make up, not after how she got hurt because of me.
