Mysterious mate to the lycan prince (Addison and Max) novel Chapter 50

Chapter 50

Addison

As Olivia’s victory was celebrated by some in the crowd, I was still on the ground, my eyes never leaving Jess.

Not even when Dylan waved his hand and Cole snapped his fingers in my face to grab my attention did I look away from her. My brothers had come to my aid, but it was the last thing on my mind.

It was only when Cole shook me after holding onto my shoulder that I finally looked at him.

“Hey, are you okay?” he asked, his voice laced with concern.

“No.” I sighed in defeat.

“We know,” they said in unison as they nodded.

The day’s events were far from over and the longer my brothers and I stayed in the same spot, the longer it would take for the rest of the matches to continue.

Getting off the ground with Cole on my left and Dylan on my right, they held onto me so we could go somewhere private.

Aunt Nora made her way down the stairs through the crowd so she could follow us and Gina was right behind her.

The manner in which I lost was so unexpected that when I looked at some of those in the crowd, not only did I see them shake their heads at me, but they also whispered among themselves.

“What the hell was that?”

“That’s exactly what I was thinking – so unsatisfying!”

“Who loses like that?”

Cole gently squeezed my hand, telling me to ignore it all, but how could I when the voices only got louder?

It also didn’t help that Jess continued to watch me, still with the same expression on her face.

Looking at her only hurt more and I had to look away, a thousand questions running through my mind.

Suddenly, her scent began to weaken and when I looked back at her seat, it was empty. She was gone.

My brothers knew exactly what I was thinking, Dylan being the first to speak.

“If you ask me, it’s for the best.”

“Dylan’s right,” Cole added, his voice gentle as he switched to the mind link. “Hey, does that lycan prince ever stop looking at you?”

Curious, I looked over and Max had his hands on the armrests as if ready to come to me, but he glanced at Tyler, who seemed to have said something to him and just like that, he leaned back in his seat.

Only a minute after getting to the parking lot, Aunt Nora came at with her arms open wide and I immediately ran to her. 1 shut my eyes as soon as she held me, her hand gently stroking my hair.

“Oh, Addie, it’s okay,” she whispered to me, then gently patted on the back.

While still hugging her, I felt Gina’s hand on mine, making me open my eyes and there she was, right behind Aunt Nora with a look of disappointment but still curious.

“What happened?” she asked.

I looked around at my family, all of us agreeing not to say anything about who Jess was.

“I lost,” I said to her.

She firmly shook her head. “I know you lost. I was there, but how did that even happen? We were all so certain you were going to win.”

“I just… suddenly didn’t feel too well.”

Her gaze softened. “Oh, will you be okay?”

I nodded.

“Hey, don’t be too hard on yourself, you’re still in the competition. I’m sure you’ll emerge victorious next time!”

“Gina’s right,” Cole chimed in.

Gina’s eyes widened in pleasant surprise and I could tell she wanted to hide her face so we wouldn’t see just how hard she was blushing.

“I uh…I really have to go. Okay? Bye!”

She quickly turned around, her heart racifig faster for Cole to hear.

“Well, what can I say? I really do make hearts race that fast,” he said,

My brothers weren’t the type to rub it in anyone’s faces that they had girls swooning over them most of the time, which was why I knew that Cole only said it to cheer me up, but it didn’t work.

The three of them tried to comfort me, but it only made me feel worse.

“None of you understand what that moment was like with Jess,” said to them. “It was that easy to lose focus just by picking up her scent and the way she looked at me…”

“We all saw it,” Aunt Nora said. “But what is she doing here?”

Lyra suddenly appeared and said, “Should I get rid of her?”

“No!” We all said in unison. She sounded and looked like she ment it.

Walking towards Lyra, I said, “I’ll be fine.”

“No. You won’t and I’m certain of it. I could sense just how affected Saga was by Jess. I still do, and you want me to believe that you’ll be fine?”

I looked around at my brothers and aunt, all of them even more worried about me after Lyra’s observation. It was up to me to convince them that this wasn’t forever.

“Jess and I were friends and I hurt her so terribly that she’s never been the same and hasn’t fully healed. It’s all my fault and that’s why seeing her resulted in what happened. I can’t just make these feelings go away. It’s even worse that I didn’t get to speak to her. I just need some time and I’ll be fine, okay?”

Even though they all agreed, I still needed to speak to my parents about it and it meant I had to relive that moment, but I knew I couldn’t run away.

Saga, whose presence I usually felt so strongly, retreated and I decided to wait until I was alone so we could talk.

No matter how I thought about it, Jess could’ve been anywhere the world, but why did she show up when she did?

Max

The rest of the day’s events went on and I barely paid attention I constantly sent Addison messages to check up on her, but there was no response from her and that only left me in suspense.

I even had the urge to track her down and find out what was going on but Tyler insisted I stay until the matches came to an end. I even agreed with him when he said that she had to be the one to reach out when she was ready, but I just couldn’t help it.

The crowd continued to talk about their disappointment in how he match ended, making me constantly think about that moment as well. I had a strong guess about who she was looking ht, someone who stood out from the section that Addison kept looking at. Everyone else seemed confused, but that one gi just glared.

“I didn’t think I’d be watching your girl lose,” Tyler teased me one again using the mind link.

“When will you stop with that? You and I already suspect that-”

“Something was wrong? You’re right about that, but she still lost. And why do I keep bringing it up? I’m just wondering what our father will say once he finds out. He kept praising her last time she defeated Drina.”

A few more matches later, it all came to an end and I just couldn wait to get out of there.

Tyler and I were the first to leave along with our royal guards, then came everyone else.

I heightened my senses in the hopes of finding Addison just so I know if she was around or not and there wasn’t a single trace of her.

Just when I slowed down a little while still wondering if I was right about that girl being the reason Addison froze, Tyler, who was leading the way, was about to turn at the corner and ran into a girl. I recognized her right away. She immediately brought her hands together and apologised to him. I couldn’t see her face because of her hair but it was clear from her body language that she was terrified, as if certain that Tyler would punish her for getting in his way.

I sensed his blood boiling, fearing that I was right but as soon as he raised her head and pushed back her hair, his demeanor changed and he smiled.

“Don’t worry,” he said. “Just make sure you put those beautiful eyes to good use next time so this doesn’t repeat itself.”

Though I internally scoffed, she was instantly swept off her feet by his words and looks and she wasn’t the first.

That should’ve been the moment my brother and I continued to make our way home, but he just couldn’t get his eyes off her and I had never seen such charm before whenever he spoke to a girl.

“I remember seeing you in the crowd earlier,” he said, his smile not fading.

She nodded, barely making eye contact as she couldn’t handle the intensity. “Y-yes, but I had to leave early and thought I’d watch everything else.

“You missed it all.”

She nodded, her heart racing as her cheeks turned red, and Tyle loved it. She seemed so sweet, quite the opposite of what I had seen when I had spotted her in the crowd.

“I’m Tyler.”

She giggled. “I know. I’m Jess.”

Tyler instantly looked back at me, raising his eyebrows as we both knew what that meant.
