Mysterious mate to the lycan prince (Addison and Max) novel Chapter 51

Chapter 51

Max

Tyler looked at me longer than he should have, making Jess tilt er head.

“Is something wrong?” She smiled, only because she was confused.

Tyler chuckled, composing himself and looking back at her. “It’s nothing at all. So, are you from this kingdom?”

She looked away, her heart racing faster again just by making ey contact with him. “No…no….I’ve been travelling a lot with my family in the past two years.”

Her smile faded with each word until she clenched her jaw.

Tyler and I noticed and had an idea why, but we weren’t going to bring it up.

It seemed that she realized how obvious her body language was she got lost in thought because she cleared her throat, took a step back and gently brought her hands together.

“Where are my manners? Please, forgive me.” She bowed to both of us, her gaze on the ground.

Tyler smirked, subtly licking his bottom lip. I thought he’d say something in response to her display of respect, but he could only watch her.

It was then that I stepped in, poking his elbow so he wouldn’t make it too obvious.

“Rise,” I said to her.

“Thank you.” She looked to the side while stealing a few glances at Tyler.

It was only a matter of time before her face would turn red from blushing and as a distraction, I stepped in.

“You said you’ve been travelling around the world with your family. Where are they?”

She turned serious. “They’re out there somewhere. I came here lone.”

“It’s really too bad you missed out on most of the matches.”

“That’s okay. What I still witnessed was worth it.”

She had only arrived during Addison’s match and her loss must we meant that much to her.

Even though I wanted Addison so badly, she hadn’t yet informed me about her decision regarding my desire for her to be my mate. It was for this reason that I didn’t ask Jess any personal questions.

Had I still had the greenlight, I wouldn’t have been able to as Tyler had her full attention, just as she had his. It made me feel like I was the third wheel.

More than beauty, my brother was still looking for someone with certain qualities, one of the most important being strength. He had only seen her beauty, yet behaved as if he had found his mate. It wasn’t the time to ask him, so I let him have his moment with her.

He made her feel so comfortable that she wouldn’t stop asking questions, just like he asked her as we all slowly walked together.

Even those passing by were shocked by the sight of a lycan prince being so close to a girl and in public.

There were those that even shot glares at her just with one look. Was this really it for my brother?

As I wondered about all this, I received a message from Addison making me suddenly stop in my tracks just because I was so glad I finally heard from her.

“Is everything alright?” Tyler asked, stopping in his tracks the moment he didn’t sense me right beside him.

“Yes, I finally received a message from…” I trailed off, then said,

With the mind link. I immediately informed him that it was Addison and he nodded, focusing on Jess again to keep her engaged in conversation.

It wasn’t going to be enough for me to just text Addison back. I wanted to hear her voice and for that, I needed to leave, so did Tyler as he had an important meeting to attend.

“We should get going now,” I said.

“Oh, I’ll catch up with you in a few minutes. I’m not done here.” is voice was low and suggestive as he looked at Jess from head to toe.

She chuckled, tucking her hair behind her ear as she looked to the side again.

The more I stuck around, the more it became obvious that I was a third wheel, which was why I left my brother behind, my three royal guards following after me.

I looked back when I was a few feet away and the smile on my brother’s face said it all. It had only been a few minutes since he had known her and he liked her company.

As I made my way along the pavement leading to the front gates so I could leave, I passed by crowds of people, each of them bowing to me. It was something that most of them had already done right before the games had begun, but they felt the need to do it again so they could show their respect.

After walking by all of them and now on the other side of the gates, I heard a few of them giggle, whispering to each other about me.

“How can someone be so gorgeous?”

“Tell me about it! Seeing Max never gets old.”

“If only he could notice me.”

The compliments just kept coming and even though I heard them all, I could only focus on my phone, texting Addison while knowing that I would still give her a call the moment I would get to the woods.

Suddenly, realization hit me and I stopped in my tracks. I was still being accompanied by my royal guards. Not once had I let anyone listen in on my private conversations with Addison and I wasn’t about to start at that moment.

They all seemed a little confused as they looked at each other, wondering why I had stopped in the middle of nowhere.

“Wait here, I’ll be right back,” I said to them.

“It’s our duty to accompany you wherever you go as long as we’re around.”

“Not this time. I need some privacy.”

“Forgive me, but-”

“Are you trying to go against me?” I growled, my eyes glowing.

Even though only one of them had said that, they all shook their heads while facing the ground.

“Then do as you’re told.” My growl faded.

“As you wish,” they responded in unison.

Looking away from them. I leapt into the tree in front of me, using the other trees to get further away from them while moving at that height.

It was only when I was far enough from them that I landed on the ground and dialed Addison’s number.

“Hey,” she said, her voice sounding low.

“Hey, are you okay?”

She sighed. “I’m not okay. During the match with Olivia, I saw Jess in the crowd.”

“I know.”

“How did you know?”

“I just met her and spoke to her.”

“What?” She raised her voice a little in surprise.

“To be more specific, it was mostly Tyler.”

“Did you two tell her about me?”

“Tyler and I agreed that it’s not our place to do that.”

“Thank you. Just seeing her made it feel like time stopped and I was back to the day when I hurt her. Did you hear what everyone was saying about my match?

“It doesn’t matter. You’re still in the competition because of your overall points.”

“You don’t understand. It’s just embarrassing that I lost like that. What will I tell my teammates?”

“You’ll figure it out and you’ll be just fine,” I assured her.

“So…Jess and Tyler? How did that even happen?”

“It just happened as soon as they bumped into each other. Even as I speak to you now, I’m certain they’re still talking to each other. Despite what I saw during the match, she seemed like a nice girl. Maybe you two should meet up and talk about things.”

“I don’t think I’m ready for that. By the look on her face when we made eye contact, she hasn’t yet forgiven me. That thought has been running through my mind and now I feel worse than I did before. It also feels like she came when she did for a purpose.”

My eyes narrowed. “Do you really think she’s up to something?”
