Mysterious mate to the lycan prince (Addison and Max) novel Chapter 52

Chapter 52

Addison

Even though my loss came with so much criticism, I told myself still needed to speak to my teammates and in person. I didn’t want to hide.

I was already certain that my arrival at the academy would only tract attention, yet I still decided to show up.

Just as I predicted, the whispers began as soon as people saw me but none of that made me change my mind about speaking to my teammates, no matter what their reaction would be.

I was so lost in thought about my conversation with Max on the phone from the previous day that I let my guard down and only paid attention when Ruby stuck a landing in front of me. Her sneer already told me everything I needed to know – she wasn’t about to go easy on me, but I wasn’t in the mood for her.

Just as I stepped to the side, she blocked the path again with a sinister chuckle.

“Oh no, what do we have here? A loser trying to run away? You know what? I really wish I was there to watch you the moment you lost. I was still so pissed at everything that happened to me before that I didn’t want to be anywhere near this place. If only I kept my emotions in check, I would’ve seen you lose in person.”

Clenching my fists to stay in control, I said, “What’s your point?”

“My point is, bitch, I may have been banned from the competition, and charged for the furniture I damaged yesterday, but it wasn’t in the presence of so many, unlike you. I’m certain youve heard all the gossip.”

The more I stood there and listened to her, the more I felt I was wasting time. I had an important speech planned out for the others and wasn’t about to waste another second there.

I gave her one last chance as I stepped to the side so I could make my way inside, but she grabbed onto my shirt to pull me back and at that moment, I had enough.

“Bitch, I’m not done with you. Where do you think you’re g-”

I cut her off with a punch to the jaw that sent her flying in the air her back hitting against the bark of a tree so hard that even her landing on the ground was a loud thud.

The onlookers gasped in surprise, laughing at her as she tried to get up while groaning and grunting.

I looked away, making my way past the onlookers who had been criticizing me but something changed in their expressions. I didn’t even hear them make fun of my defeat anymore.

“Damn, I wanna be more like Addison – hold my head high and not let anyone’s comments get to me.”

Stopping by the door, I could hear my teammates’ voices inside but they suddenly went quiet when they sensed my presence.

I brought my knuckles up to the door so I could knock but reminded myself that there was no need for that. No matter what had happened, I still had every right to be there just like they did

I pushed the door open, finding them sitting on the same bed a

watching me in silence. They all awkwardly stared at me,

as if not knowing what to say to me. It was then that I thought that was my chance to speak to them.

“Hey, guys, about yesterday, I’m sorry. I know there has been so much talk about what I did and there are those who even involve you just because we’re on the same team.”

In the middle of my speech, they looked at each other and smile, then looked back at me.

“Honestly, whatever you did out there when you froze was very range, but you’ve been the best from our team.” Phoebe said. “That’s why you’re the last one standing.”

“What?” I raised my eyebrows, getting closer..

Sally let out a sigh of defeat. “Yup, we all got eliminated, except you.”

I placed a hand on my chest. “I’m so sorry about that.”

“To be honest, I’m surprised we got this far. I always had a feeling it would be all up to you to represent our school.” Sally chuckled.

“That’s right! You know, you actually arrived just before we began to pack our stuff so we can leave this entire room for you. And you don’t even have to deal with any broken furniture since it was already replaced.”

My heart was now at ease and I chuckled, making them come closer and hold out their hands. I didn’t know exactly what we were about to do, but I placed my hand on top of theirs and it turned out to be a cheer for me.

The moment was then interrupted when someone stood by the loor and I looked over. It was Olivia.

I opened the door right before she could knock and she had a stone cold face as she looked at me.

“Good, just the person I was looking for. Can we talk outside?” she asked.

I had no clue what she wanted to say to me, but I followed behind her, our pairing only attracting attention since we were former opponents.

Stopping somewhere private, she crossed her arms and said, “Ever since yesterday, everyone I know has been congratulating me and while they’re all happy, I’m the only one who’s not.”

“But why?”

“During our match, I was watching you and something happened to you. You just suddenly froze and I used that to my advantage. I thought it wouldn’t matter as long as I was the winner, but it did. I realized you weren’t yet eliminated because of your overall impressive performance. How could someone like that just be defeated? It didn’t feel like a win to me and I hate it. Whenever you can, let’s have a one-on-one. That’s when ‘ll be at peace.”

“Deal.” I nodded in agreement.

“Thank you.” She finally gave me a small smile.

As she began to walk away, she punched the air with both fists, as if getting ready to face me right away. Had I been in her position and won the way she did, I would have felt the same wa

Up until that point, everything turned out better than I expected and I was certain it would only get better. I still had my questions about Jess and my never ending guilt, but facing everyone the way I did made me feel better. It was one of the reasons I looked forward to meeting Gina at the Steakhouse. It was going to be my first meal since my defeat.

Gina and I sat at our table, waiting for our order. She had offered to cover the bill just so she’d put a smile on my face, but she didn’t have to.

“Hey, correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that you’re doing much better than yesterday,” she said.

“You’re right about that. I punched Ruby in the face because she wouldn’t stop talking shit.”

She burst into laughter, “She never learns, does she? Honestly, I feel better too had I punched Ruby.”

“That’s not the only reason. I spoke to my teammates and they hold nothing against me. Did you know that they’ve been eliminated?”

“Yup….I just didn’t tell you because you were still…you know…”

She trailed off but I nodded in understanding.

I then told her about Olivia and she excitedly rubbed her hands ogether.

“When is this fight?” Her eyes widened in curiosity.

“Come on. There’s no need to get so excited. It’ll just be a friendly match.”

“Whatever it is, I’m coming to watch! Just tell me when.”

1 giggled, her enthusiasm making me feel better.

Just as I began to explain to her that Olivia and I hadn’t yet agreed on the time and place, my heart skipped a beat when I picked up a familiar scent, one which I hoped would stay as far away from me. It was Jess and she was fast approaching the steakhouse.

“Hey, what’s with that face?” Gina asked with concern.

“We should go. Right now.”

“What? No. Our food is almost ready.”

“That doesn’t matter right now. Let’s just go.”

“Hello? This is freaking steak we’re talking about and we’re just supposed to leave? Fine, give me one good reason why I should listen to you.”

I exhaled deeply, trying to reach for her hand so we could leave, but she pulled back, shaking her head.

“I’m not going anywhere with you until you tell me what’s going on.”,

“Just trust me, okay?”

“No. I’m tired of this. I give you a pass on everything and let you keep things from me, but you’re not about to stop me from eating this delicious steak without giving me a reason.”

I grunted in frustration, leaving the steakhouse through the backdoor and left Gina behind.

There were so many customers in the way that I couldn’t hurry just yet.

As soon as I was outside and thought about moving through the all trees to get away from there, I froze, not even looking back.
