Chapter 53
Addison
Swallowing hard, I turned around, not knowing what to say as Jes got closer with a scowl. I still had the opportunity to run away from there, but how much longer was I going to do this? Ieeded to face her.
In an attempt to break the ice, my lips curved into a smile. “Hey
She crossed her arms. “I’d say it’s good to see you, but it’s not.”
My heart sank and before I could even respond, Gina showed up from behind Jess, her steps slowing down as she got closer. That was the last thing I needed. She wasn’t supposed to find out about anything to do with Jess.
“There you are!” She ran to me, holding my hand and shaking it with enthusiasm. “I can’t believe you left just like that. As much as I want that steak, you worried me. Uh…who’s this?”
“Look, can we not do this right now?” I said to Jess, my heart racing as I avoided answering Gina’s question.
“No. We’re doing this right now. What is it? Don’t want your friend to find out all about you? It really looks like she doesn’t know. I’m Jess, Addison’s old friend.”
“Oh, I’m Gina. It’s nice to meet one of Addison’s friends.”
“I didn’t say we’re still friends.” Jess sneered at me.
“Oh, you’re not?”
“How could I still be friends with someone who ruined my entire life? And to think that you and I were friends since we were young, only for everything to change after what you did to me?”
Jess paused, wanting me to speak up, but I couldn’t.
“What is she talking about?” Gina said, looking back and forth between Jess and I.
“Oh please, Addison, now you want to act like you feel so awful that you can’t speak? Spare me that bullshit. I remember it like it was just yesterday – you and I were hanging out and you just became, so angry and snarled. It was so unexpected but I wasn’t scared. I was worried about you, so I reached for your shoulder and you just attacked me with your claws when you shifted into that untamed beast that doesn’t belong inside you! Those claws pierced into my heart!”
In an attempt to defend myself, I said, “Please believe me when say I wasn’t in control at that moment and I-”
“I cried out, begging for you to stop, but it seemed you were on mission to kill me. If not for your father, who stepped in and calmed you down, I wouldn’t be here right now. You got away with it after you had Saga sealed and what did I get? Nothing but pain. Ever since that day, I’ve never been the same. can’t shift, can’t fight, can’t use my heightened senses. I can’t even fucking heal! Look what you did to me!”
She raised her shirt, showing me the fresh scars on her stomach from my claws. The attack wasn’t just on her heart.
Cina gasped at the horrifying sight and looked away, but I could’t. The guilt ran deeper as tears of pain trickled down Jess’s cheeks.
“There’s no cure for what you did to me. That means I’ll be an outcast forever while you live your life and go on to achieve great things but you know what? I won’t let that happen.”
It all finally got to me and tears streamed down my face as I shut my eyes.
“Oh, now you wanna cry like you’re the one who’s suffered just cause you can’t shift?” She wiped her tears, yelling right in

my face after she got closer. “You have no right. Now that I know that this is where you are, this is just the beginning!”
And with that, she stormed off, but I wasn’t at ease. I trembled, wping my tears, only for more to roll down.
Gina placed her hand on my shoulder, her voice gentle as she tried to comfort me and I turned to face her, burying my face
in her chest.
“I can clearly tell that this was supposed to be a secret. Now I know why you wanted us to leave.”
“It….it wasn’t my intention to hurt her.”
She placed her hands on my shoulders. “You’re the only one who stood up for me when Ruby tried to bully me. That’s why I believe you. So, your wolf was really sealed and that’s why you can’t shift? You know what? Forget I just asked you that. This isn’t the time. How insensitive of me. I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay.” I sniffled.
“Let’s get out of here. Fuck that yummy steak.”
She chuckled, hoping it would rub off on me, but it didn’t. I could only think about the pain in Jess’s voice.
Even though Gina made several attempts to cheer me up, it still had no effect on me. I needed to find a way to make things right.
I needed to be alone and clear my head, something which Gina understood but right before she left me, I had one request.
“Please don’t tell anyone about this.”
She gave me a reassuring smile. “My lips are sealed! Call me late, okay?”
I nodded, looking away and dragging my feet on the ground. Even after I found myself deep in the forest, I just kept moving.
Finally resting my back against a tree, I slid down to the ground, closing my eyes so I could reach Saga. I hadn’t felt her presence as much as I usually did ever since Jess had shown up in during my match
“Saga? Are you there? Please talk to me.”
I waited and there was nothing but silence and an unexplained but strong guilt. I called out to her again, but it was the same thing.
Panic set in and I wondered what I could do so I could get her to respond to me.
Suddenly, I sensed Max fast approaching and I rose to my feet, looking in all directions as I tried to figure out which direction he was coming from. He was running and once I could clearly feel the vibrations, I ran in a specific direction to get to him. I didn’t want to wait until he came to me. I had never needed him before the way I did at that moment.
When I set my eyes on him, his expression was of deep concern opening his arms wide for me and I leapt over a few feet, then landed on the ground right when my chest came in contact with his.
He wrapped his arms around me, making me hold him tightly as I hid my face in his chest.
“Hey, what happened? I could feel your pain so strongly from far away. I didn’t even know what it was, but I knew I had to find you.”
He broke the hug, placing his hands on the sides of my face and our eyes locked, but I closed mine so I could focus on his touch that calmed me down a little.
“What’s going on?” he asked.

While standing behind me, he held onto me and pulled me down with him so we could sit on the grass. He didn’t care that his white royal gown would be covered in some dirt.
I rested my back against his chest, telling him all about my confrontation with Jess.
“For someone so sweet and shy when she’s talking to Tyler, she’s he complete opposite when it’s you,” he said.
“She was always so sweet. I’m the one who hurt her and I just want to make things right, but I don’t know where to start.”
“I’m guessing all this is the reason I can’t strongly sense Saga.”
I looked back at him with wide eyes. “It’s that obvious?”
“Yeah, but don’t worry. Everything will be fine.”
“I know you’re just saying that to make me feel better, but I don’ think so.”
“There might be something I can do for you to ease your mind.
“What’s that?”
After what happened with Jess, I thought that I wanted to be alone, but with Max by my side, it was clear to me that I needed him. I had Aunt Nora, my brothers, parents and Lyra, yet he was the only one at that moment I saw myself with no matter how I thought about it.
He smirked, making us both get up and pushing back my hair so he could take a good look at my face.
“Do you trust me?” He drew his lower lip between his teeth.
“I do.” I firmly nodded.
“Then let me blow your mind. Let’s go.”
He wiggled his eyebrows and I smiled a little, wondering what he was up to.
