Chapter 54
Max
With my hand covering Addison’s eyes, I pushed the door open while standing behind her.
“You can go in.” I whispered right against her ear.
“I still can’t see where exactly you’ve brought me, but it feels like we passed through Raven Mist.
I chuckled, closing the door behind me once I’m inside with her
“You’re right about that. Are you ready to see?”
She nodded with a little enthusiasm.
Standing in front of her while still covering her eyes, I slowly dropped my hand, revealing her full beautiful face to me.
Even though my face was the first thing she saw, she was so curious that she turned around to check out her surroundings.
“Wait, is this the palace?” she asked.
I chuckled, following behind her as she looked around the living room.
“No, it’s not the palace. This is my apartment with Tyler. We’ve been staying here ever since we came to Blackbolt High.”
“It’s so elegant and luxurious, like-”
“It belongs in a palace?”
She nodded, but there wasn’t even a little smile. I wasn’t about to give up as I was just getting started, so I held out my hand for her.
“Come with me. There’s so much you need to see.”
She placed her hand in mine and I led the way, showing her around as much as I could. We were almost done with the rooms on the ground floor and there was only one left, the kitchen, so I took her there and brought a chair for her right near the kitchen counter.
“I didn’t think I’d be taking a seat just now since you haven’t shown me upstairs,” she said.
Standing on the other side of the counter, I placed my hands on top and leaned forward. “We’ll definitely go upstairs. I especially want to show you my bedroom but first, I need to do something for you.”
“What’s that?” Her voice was barely above a whisper as her curious gaze was locked on mine.
“This…” I trailed off, heading straight to the freezer and opening it for her to see.
Her forehead creased as she shook her head. “Steak?”
I nodded, approaching her. “You didn’t get to enjoy it at the steakhouse because of what happened, that’s why I’ll be your chef right now.”
“You can’t be serious.”
“I am. Just watch me.”
Getting up from her seat, she said, “Then I’ll help.”

“No.” I placed my hands on her shoulders as I towered over her, ushing her back down in her seat. “Just let me do it all.”
Once again, the urge to make her mine was strong, but cheering her up was much more important to me, so I stepped away and focused on the steak.
“You’re about to have the best steak of your life.” I bragged.
She playfully rolled her eyes at me. “We’ll see about that.”
“Before Tyler and I returned to the palace, we used to do this a . We learned to do so much on our own while away from home for a long time.”
Telling her all about some of my unforgettable moments with Tyler kept her engaged and for as long as I could, I kept talking about it.
The distance between us should have made things much easier, but it didn’t and it was because I still craved her and being alone with her was just perfect. However, I put my selfish desires aside.
The steak was finally ready and right there on the kitchen counter, I served it to her.
“I hope you like it,” I said, sitting beside her.
“Even if I wont, thank you.” She gave a half smile and to me, that was still progress.
After taking the first bite, she closed her eyes to chew and I anticipated her reaction.
“Well?”
“It’s so delicious!” Her eyes slightly widened in excitement.
She went in for a bigger bite, closing her eyes each time as she enjoyed it.
It wasn’t enough that she found the steak delicious, I still wanted to keep her mind occupied as much as possible, so I told her how long it took for me to learn and all the mistakes I made before. I still couldn’t get a laugh out of her, but each smile was brighter than the previous one.
I still couldn’t sense Saga but chose not to bring it up since that was linked to the topic I wanted her to forget about for a while.
The sauce from the steak smudged the side of her lip and she kept talking, making me constantly stare at her lips.
“What?” She looked away despite her curiosity.
“You have something on…” I trailed off, pointing at a specific spo but she couldn’t quite get it off.
I got up from my seat, slowly reaching for her lips with the back of my fingers and wiping off the sauce.
Her heart beating as fast as mine made me stand that close for a while as our eyes locked.
“Thanks.”
“For this or the steak?”
“For everything.” She chuckled softly.
“My pleasure.”
When her gaze dropped to my lips and mine to hers, I didn’t know how much longer I could hold back, so I took a step forward to get closer to her, telling myself that if she would reje me, I would retreat.

O
To my pleasant surprise, she wrapped her arms around my neck as she placed her lips on mine after quickly getting up from her seat.
I placed my arms around her waist, my tongue deep in her mouth as I felt a stir in my groin.
The impatience made me lower my hands to her thighs and this time, she was in a skirt. I lifted her and sat back down, letting her straddle me as I wondered if I could slide my fingers Between her legs.
Suddenly, she pulled away from my lips and got off of me, fixing her hair.
“No. I shouldn’t be doing this right now. I…I have to go.”
Before I could even speak, she dashed out the door and left metting there with the bulge in my pants. I could’ve easily followed her, but I let her go. She felt guilty for losing herself in the moment when she had no solution to her problem with Jess.
I licked my lips, the beast in me thinking about what I would have done to her had she had a free mind. Fuck.
Addison
Curled up on my bed as I rested my head on Aunt Nora’s lap, she ran her hand through my damp hair.
A few minutes earlier, I took a shower as soon as I arrived home The last thing I wanted was for her to pick up Max’s scent all over me. I was lucky that when I had returned home, she was out.
I told her all about Jess, leaving out the part when I straddled Max and allowed myself a few seconds of pleasure. I only saw that as something that was selfish of me, trying to use that moment as a distraction when I knew that it wouldn’t solve anything.
“To be honest, the more you tell me about Max, the more I truly believe he’s meant for you. I mean….he was able to sense your pain. That doesn’t just happen.”
“I know. I really needed him and when he showed up, there was so much comfort in his arms, but that was it. None of that has taken away what happened with Jess. She showed me what I did to her. I can’t believe she has to walk around like that and it’s all my fault.”
“And Gina was there.”
I sighed, “Yes, she was, but she promised me she wouldn’t say a word.”
“I’ll make sure she doesn’t.” Lyra suddenly appeared in front of us. “I was watching you run off into the woods alone. I was there and saw everything…everything.”
Her emphasis on the last word made me swallow hard as I realised she saw Max and I in his kitchen, but she didn’t even dare bring it up. Instead, she focused on something else.
“Look, I get that what happened got to you, but now Saga is unresponsive,”
“I don’t know what to do.” I sat up.
“You don’t? Well, I’ll tell you what you’re going to do. You’ll get your ass up, get dressed and let’s keep practicing.”
“What’s the point when I can’t reach Saga and neither can you?” sighed in defeat.
Smiling at me like she had some great news, she said, “Because you’re the only one who can heal Jess.”
