Chapter 57
Addison
Max’s eyes went round with anticipation and I didn’t want to keep him waiting as I should have done this a few days earlier but wasn’t done with my training.
“I’m ready to be your mate.” The words smoothly left my lips with no hesitation.
I expected him to wrap his arms around me in celebration or something, but he just stood there, his expression blank as he looked into my eyes.
His silence was killing me and I began to feel a little awkward. Had he already changed his mind in fear of his father?
Then, he placed his hand at the back of my neck and smashed his lips on mine, making me smile during that moment.
He rested his other hand on my waist, pushing me backwards with his body weight until he had me up against the tree. where he lifted me and I wrapped my legs around his waist. I had made the right decision to show up in jeans just so I could still have a little control because the truth was, I wanted him so badly and he did, too.
He even took his time with where he placed his hands and I knew at that moment that he was giving me the chance to stop him.
I might have been wearing jeans, but it wasn’t like he didn’t have the strength to easily rip them off of me. How I would’ve loved for that to happen. The scene in my head was exciting, but I took his continued delay as my chance to stop it all.
Right against his lips, I said, “Wait…”
He didn’t pull away just yet, tasting my lips a little longer and I wouldn’t have wanted things any other way.
When he finally pulled away, I placed my feet on the ground with my arms still around his neck.
“Telling you about my decision is only the first step. The most important part is that you meet Lyra.”
He licked his bottom lip, nodding in understanding. “You’ve told me so much about her. I finally get to speak to her.”
“You’ll do more than just speak to her, but she’s mean.”
“You’ve said that before, but I can handle her.”
“Actually, she’s not all the way mean. She really cares about me and took care of me for a whole week. She helped me out a lot while I was away. I’m the best I’ve ever been with air.”
Taking a step back, he daringly said, “Can you now use just a finger?”
I chuckled, sliding a twig on the ground by just waving my pinky
He raised his eyebrows in surprise. “That’s…wow. All this in just week?”
I nodded. “I did it for several hours and throughout the day.”
“You make it sound like you had no choice.”
“I did, but I had to get it right before moving on to the next element. Lyra hasn’t even told me which one it is yet, but it doesn’t matter. The important thing is that once I can manipula all the elements, I’ll be able to heal Jess.”
The main reason behind all my hard work came as a surprise to him, but he was happy for me and Jess. I got to learn all about how close she had gotten to Tyler and just how happy the seemed together. I couldn’t wait to change her life for the

“Tyler will be so glad to hear that since he’s been hoping that you two get along. He didn’t know how much longer he could keep hiding from her that he’s your friend. He almost slipped up while telling her about a few of those invited to his birthday celebration and…”
He suddenly trailed off and watched me in silence.
“What is it?”
He reached for my hand, gently squeezing it. “This is the best day ever. I still can’t believe you said it. I can’t imagine your brothers smiling at me after what happened.”
I curiously tilted my head, wondering what he was talking about
As he told me about the encounter he had with them at the Academy of Warriors, I was certain they would have nothing nice to say about him. If only I had met up with them before meeting Max, I would have already known about it, but it was more important that I get the decision off my chest about becoming mates.
“Judging by the look on your face, your family doesn’t yet know he said.
My lips curved into a smile. “I just love it when you read my mind. So, about telling everyone…we should wait until we meet Lyra. What she has to do is important.”
He smirked. “As long as you’re mine, I’m okay with it.”
I chuckled, tucking my hair behind my ear. How was I now blushing?
Composing myself, I suggested we only tell Tyler since he always knew everything.
“Do you know where to find Jess?” he asked.
“Nope, but I’ll definitely find her.”
“Leave that to Tyler. In fact, I’ll call him right now.”
As he dialed Tyler’s number, he suddenly pulled me closer, making my breath hitch.
Even when Tyler picked up, he stared down at me like we had unfinished business. It was so exciting that I couldn’t hide it.
I couldn’t even fully focus on Tyler while he spoke to me.
“I’m so glad you’re back because hey, you’re on that guest list for my birthday.”
Max kissed me right at that moment and I giggled, making me clear my throat to reply to his brother.
. When the call finally ended, I gently pushed him and he winked at me.
“I have to go to the Academy of Warriors now,” I said. “On my way here, I received a message from Sally that I needed to meet her there.”
He furrowed his eyebrows. “She’s been out of the competition for a while now. Is everything okay?”
“I don’t know, but I’m about to find out.”
“In that case, come here.”

His voice was quiet as he placed his fingertips at the base of my chin and smashed his lips on mine one more time.
I could already imagine my family not being in agreement with my decision but for me, I was right where I wanted to be.
While on my way to meet Sally, I dialed Gina’s number and she picked up with a gasp.
“Addison?”
“Hey…”
“Where have you been? Do you know how worried I was? I went as far as asking your aunt and brothers. Talking to your aunt was the easy part! You know how I am around your brothers.”
“Let me guess, they all gave you nothing.”
“Not exactly, but I knew that you just needed some time away, especially after what happened last time. Are you okay?”
“I’m better than ever.”
“In that case, you better make it up to me for leaving like that.”
She was about to go on a long rant but as soon as I told her I’d make it up to her by taking her to the steakhouse, she giggled with excitement and changed the subject.
As she told me all about Tyler and Jess being seen together, I received a message from Sally that what she had to say was so private that I should meet her in the woods only after sunset. That only made me worry even more but when I replied, asking her to tell me if it’s something awful, she only insisted that I meet up with her later.
There were still a few hours to go until I would have to meet her so after my call with Gina, I got to my dorm room and called my family, all of them glad to hear my voice.
They were aware that I was back from training, but that was my first time speaking to them.
Dylan and Cole even told me about their encounter with Max, but I acted surprised like it was my first time hearing all about it.
I even had to hold in my giggles as they spoke to me on the phone because at the same time, Max flirted with me through text messages
When it was finally time to meet Sally, I made my way to the meeting spot in the woods, but there was no sign of her. I even called her a few times but her phone went unanswered.
Then, I picked up Ruby’s scent, making me furrow my eyebrows I expected to meet Sally.
Still unable to figure it out, I stood still until I set my eyes on her She stretched her neck a few times and stopped right in front of me, her face just an inch away from mine with a sinister grin.
She tried to seem intimidating, but it had no effect on me and that was what she was counting on.
Right when I least expected it, she shifted and roared as she pined me down to the ground with one of her massive paws. Her wolf form was several times my human size.
As I attempted to break free, she scratched my face a few times with her claws and I couldn’t stop any of the attacks, leaving me injured and bleeding.
Saga began to surge in anger so she could take over, but despite he situation I was in, I wasn’t going to let that happen.

I couldn’t even use the power I had mastered so far with how I was pinned down and also, the last thing I wanted was to expose the secret.
Ruby’s aggression was unlike anything I had ever experienced before and I couldn’t understand why she was doing that to
Everything she did to me hurt, like she was pushing me to my limits and I could feel Saga wanting to break free more than ever before. Where was Lyra when I needed her?
Suddenly, Ruby stopped, shifting back in human form with a sneer as she said, “So, it’s true. You can’t fucking shift? What a
loser.”
Her words came as a shock to me as I widened the distance between us. How did she find out?
